Seriously, who makes these ripoffs? Can't Disney send their lawyers after them?

It also makes me wonder if the producers of such quality productions realize the impact producing such items has on the environment.

I wonder if there are other ripoffs in the works like Plaything Story and Plaything Story II, An Insect’s Life, Fiends Ltd., Searching for Fisher, The Amazings, Automobiles, DOOR-I, and Plaything Story III.

Just found that they already made a Cars ripoff:

OMG I didn't realize those were actual movies, I thought someone toyed with the idea of making a new cover! Yikes!

This is disgusting! What people steal others' ideas so blatantly for their own personal gain?

Disney did not rip off DreamWorks with "The Wild". On the contrary, the opposite probably happened, because there's strong evidence showing that "The Wild" was actually in development before "Madagascar". The latter also seems to sport a rather rushed quality: the story's not well thought through, and many critics thought the animation looked subpar. This is probably because DW wanted to beat Disney at the release date.

Yay, Julian! As many of you may know, I'm extremely anti-Dreamworks (and anti-Universal, but that's another story). "Antz", "Shark Tale", "Madagascar"...boy, do they love to get ideas from Pixar...

Really? I hate how they obviously rip off ideas, but I have to give them credit for some of their stuff, like Prince of Egypt, Chicken Run, and Road to El Dorado. They got WAAAY too much credit for Shrek though. I like it, but it was way overrated. As I always say, no way did it deserve the Oscar over PIXAR!

And Slavey, why do you consider Chicken Run a DW film? I hate having them take credit for a movie made by Aardman (even if I didn't see it )

The items you show are known as me-too-products. It’s a common strategy of free riders on the market. Nearly everybody knows Disney a little bit. These people, especially children see and buy them too (,the products of "Disney").

I behold all me-too-products as illegal.

We can assume that Disney has had seek legal advise to stop this and they have their products registered as trademark.

But wait…

Nearly most of fairy tales and fairy characters are belonging to public ownership. Everybody can use them! Everybody can make films like “White Snowing and her seven little men”. Everybody can draw a mermaid with green fins and red hair and give her the name Aril. This freedom of creativity is good for us: We don’t have to fear the law that forbid us making our own art.

Disney can only protect his literal property of all their arts.

The people who produce those mee-too-copies seek good advice from their layners too. Me-too uses only public ownership. This means that these products are completely produced and sold legal!

The people have to be informed about me-too. We can do it, and Disney should do it.

If we don’t buy mee-too, mee-too will be vanished!

I just saw those covers and I was appalled. I can't believe Pixar is not doing anything to stop this.

The Wild and Valiant are Disney films.
and if you say Chicken Run isn't a Dreamworks film,then why are you saying that Pixer are Disney films? (and they arn't).

There, enjoyed it? Beats Cars, Meet the Robinsons, The Incredibles, and all the rest of them into the middle of next week, doesn't it?

Disney rips off itself all the time. They recycle old stories and do role reversal. For instance, Little Mermaid 1 & 2. In 1, Ariel wanted to be human. In two, Melody wanted to be a mermaid. Lady and the Tramp 1 & 2, Tramp became a housedog, but his son rebelled and wanted to be a street dog. I mean COME ON. Even some of the better Disney sequels do it. Like Lion King. Simba couldn't wait to be king, and Kiara didn't (just) want to be a queen.

And Dreamworks has had some pretty original stuff or did retellings of things Disney hasn't touched. Like Road to El Dorado, Prince of Egypt, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

And Disney has done with share of rip-offs. With Lion King being very similar to Kimba, the White Lion. I also remember seeing a page on how much Atlantis looked like some old anime.


And back on subject, these companies have been ripping off Disney films for a long time. Each time they release a new movie, some cheapie company releases some cheezy movie that tries to capitalize on it. And no, they won't likely be sued. It would be too time consuming for Disney. I mean, how much money do they REALLY make? They can in no way compare to how much Disney gets from their movies, so it probably isn't worth their time.
