Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2 (ImageMovers)
Yeah, I've seen a lot of possibilities for sequels of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", all set in various time periods, which were actually set BEFORE 1947 (can you say "prequel"?). One was called Roger Rabbit II: Toon Platoon, which was to be set in 1940, when the rabbit heads to Hollywood, meets his wife-to-be Jessica Rabbit and get involved in World War II. However, it was scrapped due to Spielberg's Jewish heritage. You can read a review of the script for this never-made movie by clicking here: http://www.filmbuffonline.com/ReadingRo ... Review.htm.
The other movie was called Who Discovered Roger Rabbit. This was to be set even further back, to during the Depression on the East Coast. Roger is still looking for his long lost mother while wooing Jessica. However, this time, in an attempt to get closer to Jessica, Roger takes a job as a stagehand at the Broadway show she's appearing in. One night Roger is trapped on stage when the curtain rises and a star is born.
But now, MY idea for a sequel is also in a period setting. Only this time, it will be in the 1950s, ten years after the events in the original movie. In other words, it will be set in 1957, just two years after Disneyland opened.
In this sequel idea of mine (which for the time being will be titled Who Framed Roger Rabbit... Again, unless someone can come up with a better title), Roger Rabbit is convicted of assault on Baby Herman (but of course he is not the true culprit) and is quickly held on trial, after which he is sent to Horkpuckle Avery Prison. Also, all bets are off when the Toon Patrol weasels return from the dead and are out for some not-so-sweet revenge on the ones who did them in. And this time, they have a whole army of weasels at their disposal.
I really don't know much else that can happen in the story, but I will try to post them gradually as I go. All I can tell you right now is, this sequel shows respect for the original Roger Rabbit movie while also having stuff no one would expect.
Here's some stuff that'll have to be changed here:
--Since this movie takes place later than the original, the number of Toons from that movie will be doubled here (although there will still be anachronisms)
--The Acme Warehouse will now be simply called the Gag Warehouse
--The language and profanity will be used moderately. It'll still have swears here and there, just not every which way you look.
I'll post more on the subject at a later time, but until then, what do all y'all think of my idea? If you have any ideas for the plot or characters or anything, feel free to add them in.

Well, I'm still working on that. I'm actually grappling with whether or not he should return.blackcauldron85 wrote:I think that it's neat! I don't necessarily have any suggestions, but would Eddie Valiant come back for the sequel?
Now to continue: some of the new characters to appear in the new RR sequel will include: A) a Chinese stuntman named Fung Kwee (I'm thinking of having Jet Li portray this part), who may or may not replace Eddie Valiant in this movie; B) the new boss of Maroon Cartoons, R.K.'s son, R.K. Maroon, Jr. (portrayed by Willem Dafoe). It'll feature Kwee trying to break Roger out of the slammer and rescue Jessica from the weasels, who reveal who their new boss (and also this movie's villain) is.
The new movie will pick up from where the book-only entitled "Roger Rabbit: The Resurrection of Doom" (which you can read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Rabb ... on_of_Doom) leaves off. In that story, C.B. Maroon, who is R.K., Sr.'s brother, takes over Maroon Cartoons after Judge Doom did in his brother in the first movie. Somewhere between that story and this movie, C.B. gets killed. The true reason how he was killed will be a mystery until further notice, but many people speculate it's due to a car crash (think the truth of how Harry Potter's parents were killed). Now R.K., Sr.'s son and heir to the family business, R.K., Jr., takes over the business now, in conjunction with Cloverleaf.
If Eddie Valiant were to return, who would portray him? No offense, but I think Bob Hoskins may be getting a bit old for that role. The only likely replacement I can think of is (surprise, surprise) Johnny Depp.

I've just thought up a few other ideas:
--Benny the Cab falls in love with a female Toon '57 Chevy that is pink in color (kinda like the subplot of "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo"). She will be voiced by either Jodi Benson or Joan Cusack. The Toon Chevy's name, BTW, is Jenny.
--An appearance by Disneyland!
--Like the first movie, the new Roger Rabbit movie will start with a Roger Rabbit/Baby Herman cartoon. But since this is in the late '50s, it (along with the rest of the movie) will be in Cinemascope (as a sort of homage to Cinemascope movies of the day back then). Also, there is a twist near the end, in which for once Roger is the victor instead of Herman, who consequently gets in trouble by Mrs. Herman. Then Baby Herman yells in his adult voice, "Stop! Stop filming! Cut!" And we cut away to the live-action.
Seriously, if anyone has any suggestions for the script, feel free to post 'em. But try not to change anything in the plot too much. I'd appreciate it. Happy writing!

I was thinking of having the intro cartoon be in widescreen (to contemplate the Cinemascope it will be made in) and in fact, the intro cartoon, though it will feature the same music as before, it will actually have a different intro scene, similar to the Cinemascope intros of Disney's Cinemascope toons. In fact, it would a lot like Disney's Cinemascope intros, but with all references to Disney replaced by that of Maroon Cartoons and Donald Duck showing off the titles being replaced by Roger.
Now, for the cartoon itself (for which I can't think of a name), it will start off like the MGM Cinemascope toon, "Give and Tyke", which stars Spike and Tyke, the father and son bulldogs from many Tom and Jerry toons.
Here's what happens in the beginning of the Roger Rabbit/Baby Herman cartoon I've thought up:
So what do you think? That's all I can think of right now. All I know is this Roger Rabbit cartoon will contain a twist ending, with Baby Herman getting in trouble instead of Roger for once. Now I need to bridge this opening scene with said twist ending. Anyone want to help out with the cartoon?

Here's what happens in the beginning of the Roger Rabbit/Baby Herman cartoon I've thought up:
...and that's all I can think of right now.We open on a collarless dog whose personality basically echoes that of Art Carney's character Ed Norton (even wearing the same hat as Norton and uttering, "Va-va-va-voom!"). The dog is just walking along down the street, minding his own business and humming the Maroon Cartoons theme. He gathers some old discarded food from a trashcan to eat and also a piece of newspaper to read. Then he sits down with the food and the paper and begins to read the paper. He then gasps at the what the headline reads: LAST DAY FOR FREEDOM OF UNLICENSED DOGS! Beneath that, it reads: "Dogs without tags and/or homes will hereby be locked up in the city pound." By a shocking coincidence, a dogcatcher is in the vicinity and he discovers the Norton-type dog. The dog screams and runs away, the dogcatcher in hot pursuit. The dog manages to stall the dogcatcher by knocking trashcans over to slow him down. The dogcatcher falls into the fallen pile of trashcans and is buried, trying desperately to get out. Meanwhile, the dog runs off and looks around, desperately trying to find a place to hide. In no time, lo and behold, he discovers (according to the house's mailbox) the residence of none other than the Hermans! He digs a hole in the grassy ground under the fence in front of the house and tunnels into the yard. Here, he pops out of the ground and races to a house window. Inside the house, Mrs. Herman is soundly berating Roger for his tomfoolery (Baby Herman is in the playpen, looking like he's on the verge of tears):
MRS. HERMAN: ...and furthermore, Roger Rabbit, I have had it up to my neck with your tomfoolery. Your personality is your worst enemy. Now, I'm going out for a short while. Baby Herman is staying here with you. And you had better behave yourself. Don't slip up again. And don't you dare let anyone into this house. Or so help me, IT'S BACK TO THE SCIENCE LAB FOR YOU THIS TIME, MISTER!!!
ROGER: (gulps) Hey, don't you worry, mommy dearest. You go right ahead and leave everything to me. I'm a world-class sitter. I can take care of children with one hand behind my back or while standing on one foot or while blind-folded...
While Roger continues to babble, Mrs. Herman walks away, her footsteps receding, until she is heard slamming the door shut. Meanwhile, Baby Herman is seen looking at the Norton-esque dog, staring at him from the window.
BABY HERMAN: Doggy.
Roger turns back to his charge. But Baby Herman is missing from the playpen and is now climbing up the window to look at the dog. Roger's eyes bug out like a telescope while a car horn sound plays in the background.
ROGER: No, baby, come back! You're too little to play with dogs!
So what do you think? That's all I can think of right now. All I know is this Roger Rabbit cartoon will contain a twist ending, with Baby Herman getting in trouble instead of Roger for once. Now I need to bridge this opening scene with said twist ending. Anyone want to help out with the cartoon?

One cracking idea someone I know came up with was how the now hand drawn animated toons deal with the new CGI pretenders of recent years (so it would be set in the present day, after all, toons don't age!). A story based on that premise would hit a lot of buttons...

personally, i think the idea of a roger rabbit sequal is not a bad one, but they should test the waters first. who's to say audiences even remember a film which came out.. about twenty years ago? with them making cartoons to attatch to films again, why not make more roger rabbit cartoons, to make the rabbit more familiar with audiences again.
that's my idea.
that's my idea.

I read on Wikipedia there was a sequel comic book about Judge Doom and it sounded fairl interesting. Why wasn't that ever considered as a film.
In short the story started with a news real on who Judge Doom really was and the weasels in the audience found the original artist's drawing and had it inked and painted to a cel and he rose from the dead so to speak and took over Maroon Cartoons. There was more than that but enough there to have been a good start.
