As a great fan of Disney art of books I have to say that I
personally hate

The Art of Monster's Inc
( looks like Disney staff on crack, leave that shit out, please!!!!!!!!!!!)

The Art of The Incredibles
Not nearly enough character development

The Art of Cars
More scenery than Cars if you ask me

The Art of Finding Nemo
(If there is one fish to be found you can count yourself lucky!)

Then Why with The Art of Ratatouille
(altough reatailprice in Europe of 52 euros is way overpriced)
this new author and not MARC COTTA VAZ finally manages to assemble great character development as well as nice artwork

I personally own one of the largest animationlibraries out there
(altough not only disney as you can imagine)with over 210 books ( and counting) and am simply appauled by these socalled artbooks
that are recently coming out of The House of Mouse
Or as i like to call them The Pixar /Iger Animation House

i stopped buying disney art of books after tarzan.the last art of book to me was hercules.. altho i think the art of POTC and the art of ratatouille are improvement over the lacklustre editions of the post tarzan films. treasure planet and brother had a very marketing angle book. and the HOTR behind the scenes book was crappy.

Have to disagree on Treasure Planet though, great artwork al beit in a rather small size. Tarzan is among the very best.
Have you heard of The Coffeetable Books of Demons & Merveilles,
by Pierre Lambert (Pinocchio,Blanche Neige, Mickey)rather exspensive but
along with Illusion of Life worth every penny.
Hard to find though since they have all gone out of print.

One of the few missing in my collection is
The Disney Sketchbook Series: The Little Mermaid
Only for sale on Ebay for the ridiculously amount of £300!!!
I know it's not that great!


The Lotman Animation Artbooks are amazing as well!

I think the last one I got was the one for Fantasia 2000 - and it's title is not even "Art of..." but it has a similar format, and a slipcase. I was never under the impression that any of the later "Art of..." books were that great, so I never bothered to buy any. The Pierre Lambert books are truly gorgeous, though.
