Where can I get money for some of my old DVDs?

I've noticed lately that there are a lot of titles in my collection that I don't really want anymore, and since this fall is the biggest yet in terms of new stuff I have to have, I'd like to clean out my collection, so to speak. I know we have a trading forum here, but especially since none of the titles I want to get rid of are really rare or anything, I'd like to try and unload them locally first. Save the hassle of shipping them out and all that.

But I've never done that before. As of yet the only DVD I've ever sold was Shrek, and I did that privately with someone who I knew wanted it. So I could use some help/suggestions. Dad says that if I just want to be rid of them I can take them to Half Price Books and get 50 cents each, but I expect more than that. Like I said, these aren't rare titles and they are used, so my expectations are not too high, but I'd like a decent sum of money. They are all worth more than half a dollar.

I want to get rid of:

Balto II: Wolf Quest -- opened, watched a couple times, but in generally good condition. The disc will not stay put in the case, but this is a flaw with the product as I purchased it and not anything of my doing.

Bartok the Magnificent - I upgraded Anastasia to the Family Fun Edition which has this on it as a bonus feature so I don't need its individual disc anymore. The case has a "zit" on it, I don't know what else to call it, but is otherwise fine and protects the disc perfectly. I only watched it once or twice before upgrading so the disc is in good working order too.

Classic Cartoon Favorites volumes 5, 6, 7 -- Opened but never watched. These are in terrific condition, like new.

Desperate Housewives Season 2 - This is in (mostly) good condition. The top of the outer digipack is a little bent, but the case still works and all the discs are intact. I only ever watched three discs out of the set, and even those were only seen once or twice so the discs are fine.

Men in Black II 2-disc WS special edition -- The case is a little beat up but fine and the discs are both in good working order. Disc 1 has a habit of jumping out of place when you open the case but it's fine.

Peter Pan 2002 special edition -- Upgraded to Platinum, so I don't need this. It smells odd because it was placed next to a really old DVD I got from the dollar store, but otherwise it's totally fine.

Superman (2001 snapper special edition) and Superman II (2001 snapper barebones) -- These are both fine, but obviously out of date, which is why I want to get rid of them.

Anybody have any idea where I could unload these and (approximately) how much they're worth? I know it won't get me a lot but I think they're worth something, especially Desperate Housewives (even though it's bent, that set runs really expensive these days now that it's no longer on sale.)

Any help, thoughts or suggestiosns would be appriciated. Thanks.

Local/independent used record/CD/DVD stores will sometimes pay cash for DVDs. Amazon Marketplace is also a very easy, reliable place to sell.

you can also try Hollywood Video and Blockbuster Video, chances are where ever you go you wont make much, if it is an OOP sell on e-bay

Attach a little sticker of Mickey Mouse to all the non-Disney ones and sell them to reyquila for $50 a pop! ;)

Escapay needs to create a third series of sig quotes: IDST ("I did say that") just so he can put that in his sig. Bravo. :D

As for the topic on hand, I always sell my discs at FYE. They usually give me about two or three bucks per DVD, though I've occasionally gotten as much as six. I really don't know what criterion they use in disc value since every time I sell my DVDs, the guy just scans them like if I'm buying them, and the value appears on the monitor. Judging by the titles you've posted, you'll probably get about 20 bucks at FYE, though I'm just roughly guessing. The good thing about FYE, though, is they'll add 15% to the overall worth if you decide to receive store credit instead of cash. Since most of my non-bill money goes towards DVDs, anyway, that works out fine for me.

:D

Then it'd seem like I'm vain and using my siggy to show-off things I've said.

Blasphemy! Yeah, I know, you've said you didn't really like Season 2, and you didn't like but a few episodes from Season 3. You might as well sell Season 1. You don't deserve to have any seasons of this awesome show!

Since you are being so blasphemous, I put a curse on all of the DVD's that you plan to sell. May you get less than .50 cents per DVD, even on the sets! That'll serve you right. ;)

Season 1 will remain in my collection because it was brilliant television. The further seasons are very lacking. We've had this discussion before, and you don't need to bring it up again. I will say what I said the last time: If you still enjoy the show, that's your perogative and it's fine with me, but it's also my right to express my dissatisfaction with the show without being, ahem, "cursed" for it. Surely you are mature enough to agree to disagree?

Does Hollywood Video offer cash or only store credit?

I was giving you a hard time, joking with you. Hence the wink ;)

However, I can see it was wasted on you.
