Disney Themeparks raise Ticket Prices
by John Frost

The Walt Disney Company has announced it is raising one-day ticket prices at its domestic parks starting Sunday. This change had been rumored online for almost a week now, so I hope you took advantage and ordered your tickets for future vacations already.

At Walt Disney World tickets for those aged 10 and older will rise from $71 to $75, while tickets for children aged 3 to 9 will go from $60 to $63. Magic Your Way tickets are increasing about the same percentage. The park hopper option will also increase from $45 to $50.

At Disneyland one-day prices will rise from $66 to $69 for those aged 10 and older, and from $56 to $59 for children aged 3 to 9.

It’s assumed that annual pass prices will rise as well. As usual the more tickets you can afford to buy at once, the more affordable each day is. Just don’t forget the non-expiring option.

It seems to be an odd move to raise prices while at the same time cutting back on what you’re offering. For instance, at Walt Disney World, Fantasmic will go to weekends only , labor hours are also likely to be reduced resulting in longer lines at stores, attractions, and restauraunts. But it’s a tight economy for everyone. If yogurt can rise prices by 25% when they switch from 8 ounce to 6 ounce containers for the same price, then Disney should be allowed their slight increase.

Notice the part underlined & bold- I didn't know that...that stinks. Raising prices stinks, too. And I'm somewhat glad to know that in other parts of the country, 8 oz. cups of yogurt have been reduced to 6 oz. cups, because when our grocery store's brand of yogurt reduced in size, I was upset. (I know it's off-topic, but the article mentioned it!)

Why would they raise the prices? Disney is making enough money as it is.

And that sucks about Fantasmic!

With the economy in the biggest doldrums since the Great Depression, people getting laid off left & right, gas so high unless you live in Orlando you can't even afford to get there, this is just the PERFECT time to raise prices.

Everyone sort of needs to calm down LOL ... Price increases at the park has become a somewhat yearly tradition ... It has been happening to all of the parks ...

Disney is predicting record lows ... So they have to make up for it somehow ...

That's why they are cutting down Fantasmic! to just two nights a week ... and there are talks that the Studios and Animal Kingdom will be closing down for one day a week ...

Besides the low attendance levels being a reason that Fantasmic! will be shown less ... they also want to draw attention to American Idol Experience's final show of the night ...

Yes a one-day park pass has increased ... Let's think with Disney's mindset ... Disney doesn't care about people that pay for one-day tickets ... They care about the family that is coming for 3 ... 4 ... 5 days ... As you add on more days to your tickets ... it gets cheaper ... So when you buy a ticket with more days on it ... You are sort of just paying $20/$30 per day ...

I suggest everyone check out ... http://www.wdwnewstoday.com/

It has the latest news and rumors for the Disney parks ...

Here is some info on Fantasmic!

Yes, the best answer to record lows is to raise the prices. I know I ALWAYS go to the store to do extra shopping when I know they've just jacked up how much I'm going to pay. You wouldn't guess how many times I go to the theater to see a movie a 2nd, 3rd time to see the same movie now that it's $9.50 a ticket instead of the older lower prices.

If you used the same logic you'd have to watch out for the big price increases from Ford & GM. They've recorded record losses & guess how they've decided to sell cars; LOWER PRICES SIGNIFICANTLY. I guess they haven't heard about the new theory that when people can't afford to go to your theme park or buy your product raising the prices is the logical thing to do. :?

LOL

You also have to recall Disney World makes a lot of their money from foreign vacationers (unlike Disneyland which pretty much makes its money off of locals) ...

Across the pond their currency is worth much more than our dollar ...

Until Disney notices a significant drop in their profits ... They are going to keep on increasing prices (i.e. the price for parking at the parks went up $1 LOL) ...

Aren't many parks LOWERING prices at this point? I can't see why Disney would even attempt to go the other way at this time.

As stated before it's an annual tradition tor raise ticket prices for the parks (not just the US ones but everywhere) and should by no means come as a surprise to people.

WDW is also building the Bay Lake Tower and Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas DVC properties, refurbishing rooms at Boardwalk, Yacht/Beach Club, Caribbean Beach resorts, renovating The Hall of Presidents, Space Mountain, Country Bear Jamboree and possibly Journey Into imagination, Carousel of Progress (though it's already happening in small increments) and other attractions. Possibly expanding Fantasyland with new attractions, adding new stuff elsewhere. Point is, this stuff doesn't come cheap and Disney would like to have as much done as possible by 2011 (WDW's 40th Anniversary) and fix the rather lousy mistakes management has made in the pass.

There's no doubt in my mind that entertainment is being cut back to also fund this stuff and if Disney wants an extra $3-11 from me to do that, than by all means I'll give it to them knowing my money is well spent.

APs get plenty of discounts (especially on hotel rooms, just look at mousesavers.com to see what I mean), there are ways to lower the cost of your Disney vacation and Disney will no doubt include stuff like "free dining plan" (as much as I hate it) to their overpriced and crappy packages.

Attendance is still high at the parks and international visitation has in fact increased. Disney wouldn't raise prices if they did not think it was a good business choice.

Flang-Hang, I didn't know about all those refurbs and additions. Now that I know it, I don't feel so angry.

I know it happens every year and the refurbs are wonderful but with the price of gas and loss of so many jobs (like in the Windsor-Detroit area where I'm so close to) I had hoped that they may at least keep them static this year.
