- Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow will be featured in a new television series.

Disney is reportedly planning to make a TV spin-off of the swashbuckling franchise with Sparrow as its main character.

A source tells British newspaper The Daily Star, "The idea is that we focus on a much younger Jack Sparrow and show fans how he became a famous pirate.

"The film has been such a success with spin-offs such as toys and video games and books, it only seems right to do a TV series."

It is hoped a host of high-profile celebrities will provide the voiceover for the series. The source adds, "Since the film attracted guests like Keith Richards, you can imagine the stars who will want to pop up in the television show."

Hmm.....well....this seems like it could be good, but...will it be animated? If so, then it will probably be on the Disney Channel, which by today's standards means its rubbish. It's gonna take something special to make this work.

I think it would be better as live action since the movies are live action!

The mention of voiceover acting indicates animation, doesn't it?

Prates of the Caribbean TV Show?

Not quite.

The article does not speak of voiceover acting, but instead narration by a host. Someone who hosts the show. Just like Julie Andrews will narrate the film Enchanted.

No. I don't like this idea at all. Especially if it's animated...I didn't even like the 3rd film much. They're starting to milk this franchise quite a bit..

I really hope this doesnt happen. And if they do it, I'm sure they'll add cheesy humor like they do to all of their animated series. I dont think the live action movies will be taken as seriously if theres an animated series.

Actually, I think in this case, they mean host as in a large number.
Dictionary.com wrote:1. a multitude or great number of persons or things: a host of details.
2. an army.
While I admit the idea of an animated Pirates series is intriguing, considering this'll be a Disney Channel show, I'm not expecting much. I'll check out the pilot episode out of curiosity, and if it impresses me, then I'll keep watching. At this point, though, I'm not getting my hopes up. Disney's milking this franchise way too much, and the public's going to get bored of it.

I think that any more Pirates ventures after the 3rd film is going to do more harm than good. When I saw the first film in 2003 I didn't think it was all that special I appreciated it more recently but I still don't see Pirates as being on the level of beloved franchises like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, or Star Wars. It's just not on the same level as those films in fanbase or complexity. I'm not even a huge fan of the Harry Potter stuff but I think the films are better done than what Disney has done with Narnia so far. Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe would have been a much better film if it had been shorter. There are whole segments that are boring and I know hardcore Narnia fans who feel the same way. The film feels long and bloated and is only that way so it has the length of the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. It just didn't need it. Disney should spend time crafting Narnia into the franchise it can be rather than milking Pirates for every dime they can squeeze out of it. The stuff that has officially been said about Pirates 4 and 5 just sound like it's heading campier and campier. And with each new project will they keep adding new characters to the ride? That's going to get old really fast, don't you think?

I just realized that I put the wrong link above, so I just changed it- I got this information from Laughing Place, not Animated News...so, it may or may not be animated...
sorry for any confusion!

I think I would rather have a fourth movie if done right with a simpler story line than Dead Man's Chest or At World's End. Something back on the lines of Curse of the Black Pearl.

if it turns out to be animated it could be about 14- year old Jack Sparrow from The Pirattes of The Caribbean pre-teen boy book series,as a boy counterpart for kim possible, and it would do wonders for the Disney Channel, although i would rather see it live action with the standards of the movies

What an odd choice for a TV show. I don't think it will work, animated or live-action.

Like others have stated earlier, I would much rather see a really good Pirates 4 movie than some cheesy TV show that's only made to make a quick buck.

And then have a cross-over!! Kim Sparrow, or Jack Possible; The all new Disney Animated Series crossover!

Seriously, I don't think that's a good idea. PotC was a jackpot for Disney, but this is far too much. I think little kids or pre-teens might not even understand all of it, where the characters come from, who they are, what their stories are. And the important thing, which made the movies so successful was the amazing performance of Johnny Depp. He IS Jack Sparrow and nobody else could ever take over that role. No other voice-actor could do what he does and I doubt Johnny Depp would agree to be the voice on the series.
The PotC franchise has to end!!

 i don't know if you're being sarcastic, but if you are, i didn't mean it that way, i meant that it could be a similar franchise as kim possible but for boys...if you think of it Disney doesn't have too many boy franchises

I know you meant it that way. You are right, there's not much for boys when it comes to Disney. And I doubt that many boys can identify with Kim Possible.
But that cross-over thing just came across my mind. That's what Disney does with its live-action series such as Raven or Zack&Cody, and wouldn't a KP JS crossover be absolutely ridiculous.

i thought you were joking, but i wasn't sure,

either way, if the show is a DCOS it will be an improvement for sure to its
programation.

i do actually like the idea for the series, i don't care if it ends up being animated, live-action, on Disney Channel, or abc.

yup,

lately they make cartoons in 3D, with the chepaest graphics and dialogue,
its like they think we're idiots!!!
just because its 3D doesn't mean people will watch in spite of the lack of quality, (e.g. the new transformers)

I knew it! I knew it! Buying those Jack Sparrow books really paid off! LOL...

Well, back on topic, I was expecting this ever since I read the first Jack Sparrow book. It may be an interesting show. You never know. I'm expecting it'll be animated.
