Unofficial Thread for the 2008 Best Animated Feature Oscar!

I have created a thread for the 80th annual Oscar awards, however since Animated Feature is the most watched and most talked about category on this forum, it deserves its own thread. 15 animated films need to be released in 2007 for the Best Animated Feature category to make 5 nominees. If there are 14 or less, only 3 films will be nominated. Also, the Golden Globes, since last year also have Best Animated Feature.
Here's the link to the main Oscars thread:

I've only seen 4 of those movies, but I hope to see TMNT and Shrek the Third soon. Anyway, I'd say, with hopefully no sign of bias, it's Disney and Pixar's two that are the most worthy of consideration. Happily N'Ever After was pretty bad and, while different in design, Surf's Up was still mediocre and formulaic. Even though it's my least favorite of Pixar's films, Ratatouille seems like a clear-cut favorite for the prize at this point. We'll see how the others turn out... but right now I'd say it deserves it.

IMDB.com shows that Food Fight is set for release next year:

Anywho, to repeat my predictions from the 80th Oscar thread,
Ratatouille
Bee Movie
Surf's Up
and maybe Enchanted replacing Surf's Up, if it qualifies.

Urg!

Food Fight was supposed to come out last year. Seems like Lions Gate is having troubles with their first CGI film.

But, how can that be? They've got software from IBM that creates the film and its characters for them!

Variety posted an interesting
article about the Academy's struggle to define animation. This may have a negative impact on Beowulf's chances on getting on the Academy's shortlist, which is expected to be announced by the end of November.

OscarWatch.com is a website dedicated to predicting Academy Award nominees. Usually their predictions are pretty right on with what is getting Oscar Buzz. They have Ratatouille, Meet The Robinsons and The Simpsons Movie under their predictions for Best Animated Feature Film.

And I agree with them.
Ratatouille will win unless the academy are all big Simpsons fans and want to give the series and Oscar.

It'd be nice to have a nom for "MTR" (though I don't expect it to get one), but I'd be tied between "Ratatouille" and "The Simpsons Movie" (though "Ratatouille" will likely win).

If the Academy votes for Best Animation then it will be a hands down win for Disney/Pixar's
Ratatouille. But if they look at box office, and popularity, then "rat" will lose to the crappily animated "The Simpson's Movie".
Am I the only one who liked "Surf's Up" because of the documentary-style of its presentation. I thought that made it hands above some of the other films that came out this year.

No you're not the only one. I loved Surf's Up. I still think it has a shot at a nomination.
Everyone please don't count out
Persepolis. A stunning black and white animated film about a young Iranain girl during the Islamic Revolution. It stunned audiences at Cannes earlier this year and at the Toronto International Film Festival (where I was lucky enough to see it) it received a standing ovation. It is France's official submission to the Academy for Best Foreign Language Film (a first ever for an animated film) and is almost a shoo-in for a Best Animated Feature nomination. Excellent film. It opens limited in the US on Nov 17th.
My picks for Animated Feature (if the category is 5 slots):
Bee Movie (not because I like it, but because I think the Academy will)
Persepolis
Ratatouille
Surf's Up
The Simpsons Movie
If only 3 slots, then I'd take out Bee Movie and Surf's Up.

I definitly think Ratatouille will take hom the award. It was the highest rated movie for quite some time and I think everyone liked/loved it.

For sure, I think this film was really well received among the public, I really think it will take home the award.

The Academy has
announced the 12 films vying for the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
Among the ones that made the cut are Persepolis

, Alvin and the Chipmunks

and Beowulf.

Alvin and the Chipmunks has no business being there whatsoever. If they're going to include that, they may as well include The Golden Compass. After all, that's a live-action film with talking CG animals, too.

I shouldn't be too annoyed, though, since there's not a chance in you-know-where that Alvin will even get nominated.
I agree with those who think Ratatouille, Meet the Robinsons, and The Simpsons Movie will get the nominations. Then again, Beowulf has been getting glowing reviews so far, and if it proves to be financially successful, it may bump either Robinsons or Simpsons. While Meet the Robinsons is my favorite animated feature so far of 2007, chances are Ratatouille will win, which I have no problem with whatsoever (I'm still baffled as to how Monsters, Inc. lost to Shrek. Cars only lost to Happy Feet because the latter had a political and environmental message to tell. What was the excuse with Shrek and Monsters, though? What an embarrassing way to kick off the Best Animated Feature Oscar...).

I'd be very happy if the Simpsons Movie won... I relaly do think it was the best animated movie this year.
And I'm in the minority who didn't like Ratatoullie all the much (I think I need to see it again though... I just remember not being very impressed like I was with thier previous movies

)

2. Ratatouille
3. Tekkonkinkreet

Here's how I think the list will be like:
1.Ratatouille
2.Surf's Up
3.Bee Movie
The Simpsons Movie, in my opinion, will get snubbed by the academy.
