Fantasia in IMAX?!?

Tell me, do you think "Fantasia" (the original one) would make excellent fodder for release in IMAX form?

I'm not too sure about that. Fantasia wasn't created on digital or IMAX film and is rather old, and could therefore appear really grainy on such a huge screen. It would be cool if it got a general re-release, though.

I think it would be cool, but I doubt it would ever happen. I'm sure hardcore Disney fans, like us, would go see it, but I doubt it would capture a huge audience. Not to mention what Wonderlicious already pointed out about the picture quality.

I would absolutely love to see Fantasia on the big screen which is, after all, the way it was intended to be seen.
Fantasia 2000 was intended for IMAX screens, wasn't it? In which case, they presumably adjusted The Sorcerer's Apprentice for a bigger screen; perhaps the same can be done for the other segments.
The Seventh Seal has just been re-released (in celebration of its 50th anniversary), so it's not impossible for Fantasia to come back. It's a pity the old Disney films don't really get shown in the cinema anymore - it's not such an event nowadays for some, I suppose.

Personally, I feel no disney film unless created specifically for Imax should be in Imax. Then I imagine they would re-draw animation to make it more detailed ( which I hate) therefore compromising the films originality. The lion King is a perfect example of a movie that suffered.

Well, they did release Fantasia in the 1950s in Cinemascope. And The Sorcerer's Apprentice WAS released in the IMAX form as part of Fantasia 2000. How compromised was that segment's originality on that movie? I agree with what MagicMirror said about The Seventh Seal (it had just been rereleased for its 50th anniversary). And if The Sorcerer's Apprentice can be adjusted for the IMAX form (as part of Fantasia 2000), then I think all of the original movie could go that route as well. Was "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" re-drawn at all for "Fantasia 2000"? I don't remember reading anything about it. If I checked my DVD, I might not notice anything...so I'm asking!

"The Sorceror's Apprentice" wasn't redrawn for the IMAX presentation Fantasia 2000, it was just blown up to IMAX dimensions. As a result it looked noticeably grainy compared to the surrounding material. It was just acceptable for one segment, but I think it would be too distracting for a whole two-hour feature. There's only so much picture quality you can squeeze out of a 35mm negative.
Oh, and we all understand why it's baaad to crop an Acadamy ratio film to Cinemascope, don't we?
