Not much is known about Hayao Miyazaki's next film, but here are just a few questions/answers (5 really). It's coming out in Summer 2008 in Japan.

Hopefully it'll be here within the next 2 to 4 years.

There was a question that it could possibly be similar to Disney's TLM or HCA's version.

DISCUSS!!!

"Q: Will the film use any CG?

No, the film will be entirely hand-animated."

I already knew that, but what does they say about using cels or not? I must admit that I don't think it is very likely they will use real cel animation, concidering how much effort if will cost them in coloring, shooting with a real camera and all the other stuff animators knows better than me.

Yet there is a rumor out on the net that that's the case, so I was just a little curious.

Oh I didn't even notice that there was a thread about this in General Discussion. I am very excited for this! In fact, I think I'll copy and paste my post from the other thread!

I wrote in the other thread: Ooooh that looks so good! I've been waiting for a trailer for this for ever! Makes me wonder how Ponyo doesn't get the beep zapped out of her when she touches the jellyfish? Maybe shes like an extra strong clown fish! Well her character design is definitely not the stereotypical beautiful fish chick. She kinda looks like a little fish boy actually lol. The theme song is hilarious!

Anyways, I'm ultra excited for this one! I got all happy as soon as I saw the Studio Ghibli logo. I love Miyazaki's anime films! Thanks for sharing!!

Perhaps this thread should be merged with the one in the Movies, Music & TV forum?

Doesnt surprise me since this is the same people who thought that Miley Cyrus in a minor role would get more people to see Bolt.

But I'm still terribly mortified!

We may get to hear the original japanese audio once the DVD comes out.

*dies*

Sorry for this dry post, but I don't have much to say. I guess I'm just too disgusted for words.

EDIT: Will Miyazaki allow this? I believe he still has creative control over how the film is presented to western audiences.

Why would Miyazaki care? He likes how the dubs have been done so far - you really think he knows enough/cares enough about Cyrus and Jonas to say anything? I believe he trusts Disney.

But why is Pixar allowing this? I'd think Lasseter would have more respect for the integrity of Miyazaki's work.

But can this really be any worse than Dakota Fanning or Kirsten Dunst?

Hey now, don't be bashing my KiKi! (KDS is my favorite).

I find this news totally appaling. Does Disney really think that by allowing these two idiots to be in one of Miyazaki's works will get tweens to watch the other Miyazaki works? I don't think so. If this happens, Disney will really be ruining something great (which I assume is great because I like all the rest of his films). Bad Disney: Very Bad.

Now I need to go fume about how when I hear that Montana girl's twang I want to bash her brains out (then sell it on eBay because tons of people would by it [cause people are stupid like that])

Actually, I love both Totoro and KDS. I liked BOLT, too. As long as I don't have to see the actress' face, then their voice doesn't bother me!

Lucky. That twang irks me so much I can't even possibly describe it to you.

Oh wow...I'm semi bummed about this. Not that I have anything against Miley or any of the Jonas Brothers, but I also believe it's Disney's way of trying to make Miyazaki's films more popular. Sad, because I always wanted to feel like they didn't need to be, especially with the help of Disney's tween stars. These kind of films don't need that kind of celebrity star power, they're good enough on their own.

On Dakota Fanning and Kristin Dunst in the other Miyazaki films. I actually never minded them, since both are actually pretty good actresses. I don't know how to describe this but it always felt like their voices match these kind of movies. I think Kristin Dunst does great as Kiki, though in My Neighbor Totoro I still prefer the original English dub as opposed to Dakota Fannings but I don't think she did bad.

lol, who cares? you people shouldn't be listening to dubs anyway.

anyhow gake no ue no Ponyo was kinda disapppointing. No where as good as Howl's Moving Castle, and once again, far too long for children to really enjoy. Animation wasn't even that spectacular. Hayao has done much better.

Well, that's because we all can't understand Japanese and prefer to watch the movie and not the subtitles :P :D

I usually watch a film in English first and then the original dub later on so I have a general idea of what they're talking about. I took two years of Japanese but that did nothing for me when trying to undertand the Japanese language in a film...I can get the simple things like "Watashi wa genki desu" hehe.

I can still breathe. It is the Jonas' little brother and Miley's little sister...not them themselves. I would rather let it be this way than the voices that's always spinning on Disney Channel. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have been allowed if they weren't fit for the part.

Yeah, like Yukitora said, just watch it (and other films) with subtitles. It's better that way and it's good for learning different languages.

I don't want a dub vs. sub debate to start but all I'll say is this - I prefer dubs because when it is subbed, I have to keep my eyes targeted to the bottom of the screen - I can't take in the full beauty of the animation because I'm too busy reading. Good dub or bad dub - I can see all the animation and just enjoy it.

i was wondering about oscar nominations and noticed that wall-e, kung fu panda and bolt are being nominated for best animated feature in almost all awards ceremonies.

i haven't seen ponyo yet, but i'd like to know if anybody who has already seen it thinks it deserves an oscar nomination. If yes, which one of the tree above do you think is worse than ponyo?
Even thought the winner is obvious.
