Questions about canceling and rejoining

I'm not sure if I'm going to cancel and rejoin anytime soon, but I was curious about it. Other threads said that you can rejoin right away after you cancel.

1. Can you cancel on the website, or must you call? If you have to call, will the cast member ask you why you want to cancel?

2. The first time I attempted joining, my membership didn't go through (I tried online). So, my 2nd attempt at joining was over the phone, and that worked. If I had to rejoin over the phone, would the cast member give me a hard time about it?

3. I doubt it, but can you write down selection numbers of movies that aren't listed in the initial sign-up package as your 6 (?) movies you get in your first package, or can you only use the ones that the website shows?

4. I'm currently a VIP with free shipping for life. If I canceled, what would be the odds that I'd get free shipping for life again?

5. Have any of you canceled and rejoined? Was it worth it financially? I can't remember how much my initial package cost- is it worth it to sign up again for the initial offer? I haven't bought anything in a few months (since either the $10 each movies or the buy-two-get-one-free sale.), and I'm wondering if it'd just be better financially to start over.

6. I read somewhere that through Disney Visa there is a special code where you get 5 movies for $1 each. I'm not sure if that's still a valid deal. We have a Disney Visa, so where would I find out this information? And, do you need to use your Disney Visa to purchase the movies? If so, then I won't bother looking for that code.

***edit*** I read the FAQ on the DMC page, and it seems as though one must call in order to cancel. But, I'd still like to know if you think I should cancel and resignup...! :)

Well, I can tell you that free shipping for life is very rare. I've been a VIP for a long while and haven't EVER gotten a chance to receive it.

I to have been debating to cancel and rejoin, but like you, I don't want to lose my free shipping for life deal. Next month should be the 50% off sale, and well I plan on buying a lot, and shipping doesn't take long to add up. Maybe you can do like I did, instead of canceling get someone you know to join the club. I gave my aunt the money to join the club and when my order came in she brought it to me, plus I use the sign up a friend get a free dvd offer......jrboy

thatartguy, my guess is that I got free shipping for life since I completed my requirements within a month or 2 of joining the club. That may not be the reason, though- I don't know.

jrboy- that's a really good idea! The only person I can think of, though, is my aunt-in-law (she's a big Disney fan), but she lives in Massachusetts, so she'd have to re-ship me the movies, unless there's a way to have the movies always sent to me (I doubt it, though).

As for the 50% off sale, I know I've asked before (but I have a bad memory)- do you buy 1 at full price and get unlimited at 50% off, or do you buy 1, get one 50% off, buy a second at full price, get another at 50% off, etc.?

It just seems to me that the great deals are few and far between. I've been buying a lot of used DVDs online lately- they're a heck of a lot cheaper than buying from the DMC.

Alot of clubs offer incentives only for first-time sigup. If DMC will allow you to cancel and then sign up again right away, it probably means they're not loosing money on the deal....

When you consider that if you add shipping charges you're probably paying an extra $5 for each movie (at an already higher price) it seems to me like a better idea to stick with the free shipping and just wait until a deal or exclusive comes around that you want to buy.

i signed up for an account in my moms name, we live at the same house but they didnt say anything about it. it took me over a year to fulfill my membership cause i never used it till a couple months ago. with my moms account i fulfilled it within a month i think. i have been thinking about cancelling too but i wanna wait and see what the vip deals are like.

i just resigned up for columbia house so i could get the animated dreamworks movies too. i think i got 6 free and 2 for ten each so i got a couple barbie ones too. my daughter LOVES the dreamworks movies so this will be her little collection lol.

im interested to hear more about the disney visa thing if anyone knows about it though
