Hopefully, the success of Pixar's 2-D films (which is almost certain considering the wonderful characters & stories they've come up with throughout their films) will prove once and for all that 2-D is not dead, and will not die.

Bravo Pixar.

I hope the news are true. It would be great to see 2-D animation created by PIXAR.

I'm curious to see what they can achieve with 2D. Especially since they had their relationship with Disney, they can take heed to the classics and redefine 2D animation the way they did w/3D.

If this is true, then I SO CAN'T WAIT. Atleast there will be some 2D animation..

This will be a killer to Disney once they lose their contract with Pixar.

urg! I'm annoyed with Pixar, and this isn't helping... I'm sorry but I will not be happy if this happens, I want Disney 2-D NOT Pixar 2-D... but that's just me...

I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point Alex. First, its an aintitcoolnews.com rumor, which aren't always true. Second, just because Pixar does a 2d animated film doesn't mean that it will be instantly successful. Disney has done some great 2D films that haven't earned the mega bucks that they deserved to.

Yeah that's true, I'm just so tired of everyone assuming anything pixar does will be good... I mean Disney may not be being run by the best people right now, but they are still putting out good releases, and I certainly don't think Pixar is superior to disney, I mean at the begining of the 90's, end of the 80's Disney was churning out hit after hit, and now I think their getting back to that place, Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, and Brother Bear have all been great, and Home on the Range is promising to do that...

Anyway, I have the feeling if Pixar does start producing 2-D it won't be cause they want to cause they think it's a great artform or anything, I think it will be to stick it to Disney, show them they can out do them in in the artform that made them and that they are abandoning.. or something like that, I don't know if I explained it right... Oh well I think by the end of this decade Disney will be churning out another 2-D flick, and that will probably be the start next Disney Rennaisance

I hope you're right. Eisner hasn't yet learned that the company can't always rely on Pixar to save its hyde.

I really really really hope it's true! I love the stories for Pixar movies but hate (well okay "hate" is a bit strong but at least dislike) the 3-D animation. Please please please let it be true....

I say more power to them. I can't wait to see it. As for Disney, I think Disney will always be the leader in Traditional animation and we can all relax and remember that. Pixar will just provide new blood in the animation department.

I think that if Pixar produces some successful 2D films, Disney will open their eyes and return to its roots.

I think this is awful!!!! It's almost as if Pixar is trying to outdo Disney!!!!!!!

Now THIS is an interesting turn of events.
Disney looks at the Pixar success and assumes it is to do with 3D, meanwhile Pixar is making a move in the 2D market.

Should be interesting to see what happens post-Incredibles...

The whole Pixar thing has been a total mess from the start for Disney - they've basically co-funded the studio and it's now become a major competitor to Disney. I personally don't think it's inevitable that a Disney/Pixar distribution deal will be made, because Pixar don't need Disney any more.

They can negotiate distribution deals with any other studio, most likely at a more favourable rate. They have already said they want to do all marketing in-house. They can negotiate licencing and promotional deals themselves (almost certainly at a better rate sans Disney's cut). What does the Disney name offer them now that Pixar's is just as big and some people insist the Disney name is tarnished now anyhow?

This is one of Eisner's biggest mistakes - and one that will have lasting implications on the future of Disney for years to come, Pixar deal or no Pixar deal. He's not only let a small company threaten Disney's traditional animation dominance when so many others have failed, he supported them while they were doing it!

But what's even worse, Disney is doing the same kind of early-Pixar deals with other companies now - Vangard, Shadebox and Rocket Pictures. Any one of these fledgling companies could build themselves up to be another Pixar, and like Pixar they'll be getting their initial films partly funded by Disney.

Interesting times ahead indeed.

Hm, I actually don't like this at all. Just think about it...

Disney started out small (like Pixar) and soon they became bigger and bigger. When the economy became more important for all company's they started to commercialize their products and tried to keep the shareholders happy (like Disney now). If Pixar does the same and grows that big, I'm affraid they will do the same thing as Disney did. Pixar is not a very big company now, and it still relies on quality animation and not on their shareholders, because they know it's going to work. I'm just saying, hope this will not be a negative chapter in the animation world.

Personally, I love 2D animation. And I also enjoy the 3D animation work that Pixar has been doing, but mostly because of the stories, not soley because of the animation. Pixar seems to be a company with a lot of heart and desire to make quality products.

The bottom line is, as long as it's a good story and it works well in the medium they've chosen, it doesn't matter to me if it is 2D or 3D, or if it's Disney or Pixar. Brother Bear wouldn't have been the same in 3D and Finding Nemo wouldn't have been the same in 2D.
