New Cars short and Cars 2 in 2009????

I found the following on Miceage.com:

5/30: Here's an interesting tidbit heard at the Indy 500 from Paul Newman himself: Did you know a new Cars short will debut Summer 2008? And that Cars 2 is set for a 2009 release? This first popped up on CarsTheToys.com and checked out from my end. - Al Lutz

Not sure how reliable either source is, but thought I'd throw it out here.

YAY!!! I love "Cars", so I'd love to see a short & a sequel! :) I hope it's true, & I hope the members of the voice cast who can come back, will.

Personally....I don't see how it's possible. The cars short for next summer, maybe.....but we would have heard about Cars 2 by now if it's scheduled for release in 2009, correct?

Hmmm...well, Pixar likes to be tight-lipped...

I'd prefer a sequel to the Incredibles...

2007 Ratatouille
2008 Wall.e
2009 ? John Carter of Mars ? Pete Doctor film ? Cars 2 ? wich one is it?
2010 Toy Sotry 3

Not very reliable. Al Lutz is known for not being very accurate, and often throws in a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor in his articles as well.

Cars didn't thrill me that much, so the thought of a sequel doesn't really excite me very much either. I think some of the other Disney/Pixar films are much better candidates for a sequel.

Actually I think his facts have been extremely accurate. I take issue with his editorial viewpoint. He obviously has an axe to grind with members of Disney management as does Kevin Yee.

I think Incredibles is much more ripe for a sequel as well. Cars was a nice little wrapped up stand alone story. Worked well but where else is there to go with it.

Ditto. Much smarter financially too (Superheroes are "in", made more money than Cars). Go figure why Pixar would go with its' least successful movie both critically and financially since Bug's Life. :?

Cars didn't impress me that much either. If I had to choose another Pixar sequel (besides Toy Story 3 which is already on its way) it would totally be another The Incredibles film. I'd love to see the next adventure those guys would get in.

Anyone know when the cars that were debuted at Toy Fair are coming out?

Thanks.

Sorry for not keeping up with Pixar's release schedule, but if they are aiming for one movie a year, what is coming out that year? If they already have something else planned for 2009, the plans of Cars 2 is unlikely.

The other thing that scares me that this could be true is the former of the news is likely true. The short he's talking about could be a new one attached to the Blu-ray disc. That being said, it could mean the latter of the news about a sequel could also be true.

who knows if the sequel is real they might have it be about a different set of cars instead. i would like to learn about them like how do they grow, how do their babies come, how they do theme park rides(unless they're all drive-thru), and other things.
edit: and who knows they might not be coming with a film in 2009. they didn't with 2000, 2002, and 2005. the time between Toy Story and Bug's Life doesn't count since they wouldn't know if Toy Story would be popular.

I would love to see the sequel to Cars! I really liked that movie! But I must admit that The Incredibles was really good too and I think I would prefer to see the sequel to that movie before Cars 2.

I really love your ideas Disneyfreak1990!! I would also love to learn about other aspects of the Cars life! That would make a good movie!

As much as I like Pixar, I don't think a Cars sequel would be a good idea. As a previous poster stated, an Incredibles sequel would be better.

How about how they can build buildings. :D

I thought John Lasseter was strictly against sequels unless a story compels the need for one.

Therefore, I'm curious to see what the story would be because I personally think Cars should just be left alone.

maybe it's the constrution vehicles who build buildings. here's another one, are they born into what they will do someday like if your born a racecar your going to be a racecar.

A Cars short sounds great, but I really don't want a Cars II. I feel the movie is great and the ending shouldn't be tampered with. The only Pixar film I feel has room to be sequelized further is Toy Story.

I think Cars had a great story line and wouldn't mind seeing a sequel but I do think that The Incredibles would make a better sequel and they can focus on the kids maybe growing up with super powers and what not, and have it based maybe more on them then the parents.
