Let's all make a list of Disney movies that are hard to find nowadays.

I'll start some of the list

"Superdad" (1973) The film was only released on video in 1985.
"Smoke" (1970) Rare Disney TV film, scarce on video or DVD.
The Original Uncut Version of "Fantasia" (1940) The 125-minute DVD has the controversial scene cut out.

"Song of the South" (1946)

The Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men (1952) - live actioner with Richard Todd as Robin Hood. Released once on VHS, never on DVD. Someone said there is a very poor copy available in the Disney movie club, but I haven't seen it.

It's on DVD only through the Disney Movie Club, and there's a UD review for it here, which makes note of the poor transfer (it's the same as the 1992 laserdisc) and the barebones of it (not even any chapter stops).

SMITH, and SCANDELOUS JOHN come to mind. I would have said The Fighting Prince Of Donegal (but that appears to have been released as part of the Disney movie club) not available in australia regrettably
There is also Almost Angels ( I only ever saw a 16 mm version of that film) I think filmed in europe.

Smoke is not that rare, it was never released on DVD but the VHS can be had on Amazon Market Place for around $3..Superdad also on VHS can be had for around $15..

It's more cropped out of the frame and digitally erased rather than "cut" in the traditional sense. There are about two or three more scenes where Sunflower is cropped out, as well as one scene where she's been digitally removed from the frames.

Thanks for clearing that up everyone.

To the poster that said, "The Prince and the Pauper" with Sean Sculley, that is extremely rare. I do have the 1985 video release, and I think that is the only video release.

As you can see by my signature, I spent 2006 trying to watch every Disney live action movie...

Due to the great fortune of a Hollywood Video completely getting rid of and selling it's entire VHS stock, I was able to purchase a GREAT number of out of print live action and Disney television movies. {Priced from $2.00 to .50 !!!}

I am down to needing 3 movies to have all the live action and animated classics listed here on ultimate Disney on DVD or VHS.

I need the original live action 101 Dalmations. I have seen it on-line many times, but not at a price I was willing to pay.

I also need Jungle Book {animated}which will be rectified shortly.

However, my holiest of holy grails, which appears on-line only periodically, and very, very, VERY overpriced is "Take Down", starring Lorenzo Lamas and Maureen McCormick....

I've never seen it at a video store, and will not get priced gouged to have it.
I'm sure I'll eventually find it in a thrift store.

Heck, I've even found ridiculous stuff like Disney Channel 80's movies, copies of the Edison Twins, the old Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo's Circus, and Winnie the Pooh, Disney Channel videos............No "Take Down".

Does anybody own it?

I own it on an original rental videotape from USA.
I payed a lot for it and I keep it as one of my valuable old films (though it´s not made by Disney - only distributed by them!)

Hungry Hoboes from 1928 seems to be pretty hard to find... no-one's managed it yet...

What you are saying is that it is a "legal" bootleg, because it has never been released commercially on DVD to the general public. Is that correct? Something akin to all those copies of "Song of the South" that are out there.

I want to see a 'legal' release of this great movie, not one that I have to join a club to get. I have heard that most of those 'club only' releases are pretty bad as far as quality goes and they are really barebones releases.

I will wait for a legitimate release of "The Story of Robin Hood" to come to DVD.

The Disney Movie Club's release of "The Story of Robin Hood" is a legitimate Disney DVD, made and produced by Disney. The quality issues are an entirely different matter, but it's not a bootleg. Disney's releasing some of these older DVDs through its Movie Club because they don't feel enough buyers exist in the general market, i.e., Wal-Mart, to make them commercially feasible. Any Disney DVD that you can order directly from Disney, off Disney's website is HARDLY a bootleg or illegitimate...

Seems to make it unfair for those of us who don't buy on-line any products. I refuse to buy anything that I can't hold in my hand first and decide whether I want it or not.

I don't think I should be required to join a club just to get a certain DVD title. That really sounds foolish to me.

I have not bought anything on line, nor do I plan to do so in the future.

I have bought almost all of my hundreds of DVDs "on line". You're free to keep on not doing it, of course - but I'd just like to point out that it's hardly a very risky thing to do...

Think about it.........that was a very silly thing to say........you can sit in a new car and have your HANDS on the steering wheel and touch the whole car and with a new house, you can walk through the house and hold each door knob and light fixture...............so the comparison is pretty weak, isn't it?

Having been stung very badly by someone hacking my credit card about 10 years ago, and causing me no end of frustration in getting my credit back on track, under advisement of my bank and my credit counselor, I no longer shop online for ANYTHING!!! Despite what you may think or have been told, there are ways to get your numbers and foul up your credit and you can do nothing about it. Don't believe all the ads that tell you that you are in a secure site and that your numbers are protected. If someone wants to get your numbers they can and will, believe me, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. My advice is be vary wary of shopping on line, you really don't save that much money, after shipping and handling, that you can't just go down to your local store and buy what you want.

I am not and never will be a member of BMG, Columbia House, NetFlix, Disney Movie Club, or anything that requires that I put my credit card (of which I don't have one at this time anyway, by choice) out there for scammers to get a hold of.

I've also had a couple of experiences of people somewhere in the world "hacking" my card and stealing money. I notified my bank or the VISA organization and everything was sorted out as far as I could tell within a few days - but others may experience worse things from time to time, of course, like you did.

If you walk into a store and someone "in their right mind" wants to steal your wallet - they can and will, you know... So, nothing is really 100% safe and shouldn't quite be expected to. But I can tell after hundreds of online transactions that internet shopping hardly makes my life more dangerous than it would have been otherwise. But one should take some care, of course. Even if a store such as amazon.com may be quite "safe", one might still prefer not to give out one's card number to less reputable dealers - it pays to do some "homework" here...

And then there's another thing that might be important to a lot of people: The internet gives us the opportunity to buy what we can NOT find in a local store.

So apparently there's absolutely no change in online security from 10 years ago, eh?

Your credit card information can be stolen from you as you use it in any restaurant or at any gas station. Will that stop you from using your card in person?

Why are you even using plastic, anyway? Just use cash and nothing else. In fact, don't even use that. Use pure gold bullion for all your purchases. It's the only way to be 100% sure.
