well, i'd like to restate my question from the last thread:
i signed a petition against wolf slaughter, and tonight i got a phone call asking me to give money because they are trying to stop some woman from mass-wolf-slaughters, and i was wondering if anyone else got the same call either tonight, or sometime recently?

I got no phone calls, but I did receive a semi-optimistic email regarding the number of petitioning emails (roughly some 120,000) on the plight of the wolves to the Bush administration. Now they will discuss the situation among themselves (or something like that) for the next few months before they come to a big decision.

I have not received any such calls. Did you end up donating money (don't mean to sound nosy, you don't have to answer if you don't want to)? Sounds fishy to me.....

Hi guys. Just noticed the first Environment thread was locked. Thanks Anthony for starting the new one. So what's new with everybody? Have any of you planted tress? My dad finally changed all lights bulbs in the house to flourecent ones. We just needed the living room. Ever since I got my family to recycle, we no longer fill every black trash can. The bad thing is that we need another blue one, but they won't give us anohter. I'm so happy more members are starting to write here more often. We should start a list of recycables and energy saving tips.
Recycables:
Bottles
Plastics
paper ( everything like magazines, newspapers etc)
Styrofoam
Plastic forks and cups
straws
empty shampoo bottles
plastic containers
cup a noodle cups
For hardcore recyclers
rinse out ketchup, mayo, mustard, butter, sour cream containers let them dry and then recycle them.
If you're interested in recycling your comp and electronics go to
http://www.erecycle.org/index_nf.htm it gives adress near you.
Everytime I try to do a list, I forget many things.
If you guys see plastics and six packs holders please pick them up and cut them up and recycle them. I have picked up three six pack plastics.
Energy saving tips.
unplug cell phone chargers
red lights on electronics mean they are in stand by mode, therefore consuming electricity
try not to use lights in the day time
take shorter showers
turn water off when not brushing
to find out more visit and explore this link
Put your comp on stand- by
http://nrdc.org/globalWarming/solutions/default.asp
Feel free to add to the recycables list, I'm totally blanking out.
I'm glad someone other than me started a new thread, that means there's still hope

.
Almost forgot there's a carbon calculator, that tells you how much carbon dioxide your prevent from contributing to Global Warming once you've changed your light bulbs, inflated your tires, changed your shower head, etc.

yes, i donated money. they said it was something like 15 dollars a month for the next, like, 9 months. so...i figured why not? its only 15 dollars, once a month. put down 5 a week, and i've got that covered.
if none of you get a call, i may just not send in my money.

In that list above, you forgot to include glass as a recyclable. Also, whenever I plan to return to my computer a little while later, I unplug both the plug in the computer and the computer's outlet plug until I return.

Great list and tips Beastboyravenz! If everyone just started doing even one or two of these simple things it really would make a difference in the long-term.
Current things I do to help the environment:
-Recycle
-Conserve energy and water
-Use energy-efficient lightbulbs
-Walk or carpool, instead of always driving
-Donate monthly to the World Wildlife Fund of Canada, which helps endangered animals
-Bought reusable grocery carrying bags instead of using the store's plastic ones (which, by the way, take literally an average of 1000 years to biodegrade) everytime I go shopping

That is so cool of you Anthony, we are almost the same. I actually donated to the Wild Life Fund for Earthday. And you are definately, if people did atleast recycle it would make a huge difference. One thing I do ask all of you non hardcore recyclers, please recycle paper. Thanks Big Disney Fan, I did forget glass. Jasmin1022 have you submitted your photo to the Tiger Mosaic? Please do so, it is a huge deal and would mean a lot to all Tigers.

Yes, I have. In fact, I went so far as to use the email of my fiance and some of my friends just so I could submit more pictures!!

I,too, put my computer on stand-by when I'm not using it.
I recycle...everyday,as much as I can.
I always walk when I need to get somewhere(at least if it's within walking distance)
Thanks,beastboyravenz,those were great tips!

You're welcome PeterPanfan. Feel free to make your on list if you want.
Good news for all New Yorkers. Read the following link

That is good news! I wish Toronto would pass a law like that. While we certainly don't have as many taxis as New York, it's still a huge city and something like that would indeed help overall.

Things I Do To Help The Environment:
Recycle Paper
Recycle Pop Bottles, Cans etc.
Recycle Cardboard
Turn off pretty much all lights except one or two in the room I'm in
Short showers
Running Dishwasher, Washer and Dryer on full loads only
Opening windows instead of buying an air conditioner
Putting a sweater on instead of turning heat on
Doing activities that don't involve the computer or t.v all the time (cuts back on power usage)
Thats all I can think of for now, I'm sure theres more though.

I just sent a picture of mine (of me at Lake Tahoe on a fishing trip) to the Tiger Trade website as part of their Tiger mosiac. That made me feel good.

Thanks for posting this link. It is truly sad what is happening to the whales. Thanks for making us more aware of this problem.

Has anyone heard of/seen the movie about Luna the orca? It aired on CTV, but I'm not sure if it was shown in the states at all.

I remember seeing previews for it last week (I live in Canada too), but I totally forgot that it was on. Did you see it? Was it enjoyable?

I never heard about it, but tell me!
