If you could only own 4 Disney Treasures DVDs, which ones would you own?

Oh man, that's a toughie. You know, to be perfectly honest, I have absolutely no idea.

Downsizing your collection again, consultant, and asking us which Treasures we'd keep and which we'd dump?

Anyways, I'd probably keep these four sets:

Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio - I still need to get this, but it's got great vintage pieces (well, they're all vintage pieces!) that give a very straightforward look at the studio and its work days, along with various snippets of animated classics/shorts in production.

The Chronological Donald, Volume One - because it's Donald!

On the Front Lines - one of the most essential Treasures out there in terms of material offered and noteworthy significance for both Disney and American History.

Any Serialized Series - stuff like Davy Crockett, Elfego Baca/Swamp Fox, Spin & Marty, Hardy Boys...but it's probably more out of my fandom of serialized dramas/shows than if they're really worth owning as only one of four Treasure sets...

Still, I'd like to think all the Treasures sets out there are essential and worth keeping.

I don't have 2-4 (cos they have never been released in R4) but I think that collection would be the best

Well, right now I only have two, but I love them and would keep them in my top four. They are:

Tomorrow Land

1. Behind the Scenes- The Reluctant Dragon is awesome to own!
2. Mickey Mouse in Living Color Part 2- You have to have the second disk which includes The Prince and the Pauper, Mickey's Christmas Carol, and Runaway Brain (however the first two may have more recently been put on other DVDs).
3. On the Front Lines- Just to have Victory Through Air Power, I havn't watched anything else on it yet.

for a 4th, I'd add Chronological Donald Volume 1 because Donald is an awesome character.

And besides those I really havn't watched any of the other DVDs all the way through. Actually I've only watched all of Mickey Mouse in Living Color part 2. I havn't really bought any in the last 2 or 3 waves because of the price, but I'd love to have them.

Edit: Disney Rarities! I gotta say that this may be my favorite set. I just watched most of the shorts and wow. I even fell in love with the Alice Comedies.

... but I'd have to go with the archive material. I find myself returning to those more often than any other Treasures (and I have them all):
1) Behind the scenes at the Walt Disney Studio
2) Disneyland, USA
3) Your Host, Walt Disney
4) On the Front Lines

That is really hard but three of my four would definitely be:

Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier - There is only one Davy Crockett and that is Fess Parker, and this WDT is the best there is.

The Complete Goofy - with all 46 of the Goof's short included here, the only downside is there isn't a 'play all' button to click on. Great collection and one that every Disney-ite should own.

The Chronological Donald - Vol.1 & 2 - no big reason except that it's Donald Duck. So far, my favorite collection of cartoons from the Disney factory.

the fourth one would probably be:

Walt Disney Rarities - mainly because of content.

1.) The Complete Goofy- Obviously, he is my favorite of the "fab five" and his collection is great because Goofy evolved so much in a relatively short amount of time and the "how to" format of most of his shorts are great.

2.) Disney Rarities- This is one of my favorites because it has such a variety. It also shows the great advances that the Disney studio made in animation over the years. Two of my favorite Disney shorts are on this set: "In The Bag" starring Humphrey Bear and "A Symposium on Popular Songs" starring Professor Ludwig Von Drake (I love "Rutabega Rag").

3.) Your Host, Walt Disney- Walt is my role model, so this is a great set. Even though two of the features were double dips for me, it's still a great set. The highlight is deffinatley the Kodak Disneyland special that was thought to be lost.

4.) Disneyland USA- As a theme park fan, it is amazing to get to see the opening day ceremony and to get glimpses of how Disneyland evolved up until Walt's death.

The Treasures set is the DVD highlight of the year for me and I can't imagine not having all of them because they really are excellent sets. If I had to make some more reccomendations to people, I would say they should try The Adventures of Spin & Marty, Elfego Baca/The Swamp Fox, Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studios, and both volumes of Silly Symphonies

Easily the one's containing the shorts, although it's a bit harder to choose 4.

Chronological Donald vol. 2
Mickey Mouse in Living Colour vol. 2
Complete Goofy

I have the entire collection and admittedly have not watched all the discs. Probably about 3/4 I've watched.

So out of the ones I've watched I'd pick

1. Chrono Donald 1
2. Chrono Donald 2

I pick these because these are my kids's favorites. The LOVE Uncle Donald and laugh histerically at him. I'm only 38 and my kids are 6 and 7 and I know that these will be great keepsakes.

3. Behind The Scenes (I'm fascinated with Disney's Animation process)
4. Disneyland USA (Only because it complements my collection of Disneyland Collectibles)

Honorable Mention: Rarities & Mickey B&W because they show the real early stuff which is facinating.

What I'm really surprised about is the popularity of Behind the Front Lines??? I haven't watched it yet (which may be my problem) but I would expect unless you are completed fascinated by ANYTHING historic Disney (which may be the case with many here) and/or WW2 stuff, I can't understand why else this one would be so popular? Is it REALLY that good/interesting? Guess I better go watch it.

It's really more an "acquired" fascination, at least in my experience. My brother doesn't care for it at all (mainly because he doesn't like war-related materials), but my friends got a kick out of it when I showed them several cartoons. It's really based on how interested someone is in propogandic Disney as well as World War II.

Still, even is someone wasn't interested in WWII, the shorts are still quite fun to watch (like "The Vanishing Private", one of my favorites.)

Anyway, maybe it just got overlooked, but did you see my first question? Are you downsizing your collection again and wondering what sets you should keep? Or is this just a general question as to see what sets everyone really likes?

You guessed it, I'm downsizing. My kids and I have enjoyed watching some of them but neither they nor I seem to have a significant interest, or more importantly, enough time, to all of them or watch some of them over and over again. I'm more of a feature animation fan and a Disneyland Memorabilia Collector (50th, Pirates, Haunted Mansion). I figure I'll liquidate all but a few of our favorite issues in order to free some funds up to counterbalance my overspending on the other collectibles and free up some shelf space (and storage space where I keep the tins).

They'll be going on E-bay this week. The sad thing is I spent many many hours to acquire a complete set that has ALL perfect tins, no dents. This was HARD as I had to buy some issues three, four, and five times before finally getting a perfect tin. The discs are mint since several were never watched and the others were only played once or twice and handled with extreme care. At first I was going to keep them sealed and buy another set for viewing but I was finding that the corners of the shrink wrap and the blue band were hiding dings in many cases so I removed the shrink wrap to at least inspect them even if I didn't watch them. But I'm getting off on another tangent.

I'll probably just keep Donald 1 & 2, Disneyland, and maybe Mickey B&W (for historical purposes). But I'll miss Behind the Scenes, Silly Symphopnies, and Rarities.

I'm betting that by the time I really am longing to watch these things again 15+ years from now when I have grand children and more time, this material will have been re-released on a much higher capacity format probably 5-10 times the storage capacity of the current DVD. If not, I can alway go on E-bay and buy them back. I'm just trying to minimize the amount of 'stuff' I've got sitting around not being used.

In 15 years they may not be availablle and E-bay may not be around

What's your Ebay name consultant? I've been trying to get my hands on Mickey Mouse In Living Color Vol 1 and Silly Symphonies Vol 1. Most of the ones I've seen posted come without tins

If you'll ship to Canada that is...
