It must be quite hard to be a celebrity couple, and be married. The press has been saying that this was coming for a long time. It's sad that people can't be famous, and be married, without having to endure constant press speculation that there is trouble in the marriage, divorce is imminent, etc.

Britney Spears Files for Divorce in LA
Nov 7, 4:34 PM EST

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Britney Spears is saying bye-bye to K-Fed. The pop princess filed for divorce Tuesday from her husband, former backup dancer and aspiring rapper Kevin Federline. The Los Angeles County Superior Court filing cites "irreconcilable differences," said court spokeswoman Kathy Roberts.

Spears, 24, married Federline, 28, in 2004. They have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and an infant son who was born Sept. 12. The divorce papers identify the baby as Jayden James Federline.

A message left with Spears' attorney, Laura Wasser, was not immediately returned.

Spears married Federline eight months after ending a 55-hour Las Vegas marriage to her childhood friend, Jason Alexander. Her second marriage has provided endless fodder for tabloids, which have speculated frequently that the union was in trouble.

Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, issued a statement declining comment.

"There is no statement at this time as requested by Mark's client, Kevin Federline," said Michael Sands, spokesman for Kaplan.

In the divorce papers, Spears asks for custody of the couple's two children, with visitation rights for Federline. The filing lists as separate property, and thereby off-limits to Federline, "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal affects," earnings and other assets to be determined later.

The filing comes just a day after Spears, back in shape after the birth of her second child, made a surprise appearance on David Letterman's "Late Show" in New York by popping up behind him as he was sitting at his desk.

Federline appeared in the movie "You Got Served" and performed as a backup dancer for singer Justin Timberlake, Spears' former boyfriend. He was previously involved with actress Shar Jackson of TV's "Moesha." Federline and Jackson have two children.

Born in Kentwood, Louisiana in 1981, Spears got her first taste of fame at age 11 when she joined the "New Mickey Mouse Club" TV show.

Her fellow Mouseketeers included future superstars Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.

Five years after leaving the show she released her debut album, "Baby One More Time." In the video for the title track, Spears dressed provocatively in a school uniform and cemented her reputation as a sex symbol. Yet, throughout a years-long romance with Timberlake, Spears always proclaimed her chastity.

By 2003, she had fully embraced her sex-charged image, sharing an open-mouthed kiss with Madonna during the MTV Video Music Awards.

As sad as it is for a couple to get a divorce, I knew this would happen eventually. It's makes it even more sad when you consider that the two just had another child together. My heart goes out to them.

(crickets chirp. A mess of hay rolls past the street. The wind blows calmly. The sky gradually turns from light blue to a pastel of vibrant colors as the day turns to night.)

Oh, I'm sorry. I was busy not giving a damn. ;)

Honestly, more money can probably be made in Hollywood as a marriage counselor or divorce lawyer than anywhere else in the world!

Oh, Escapay. Come on! I know you could care less, but, I'm just putting it out there for discussion.

You are correct that being a divorce lawyer in Hollywood would be very profitable. In fact, I think I've found a new career objective!

Hehe, I know. It's just fun to throw in a snarky remark or two, liven it up a bit beyond a "good riddance, they didn't look good together" and "Oh man, I'm gonna be so devastated for the children".

However, there are some valid points of discussion for this particular couple, namely:

1. Who'll get the house.

2. Who'll get the kids.

3. Who'll get the career.

4. Who'll get accused of infidelity.

5. Who'll be on ET and the Insider.

6. Who'll be on Access Hollywood and Extra.

7. Who'll land the Barbara Walters Interview for sweeps.

8. Who'll get the fan support.

9. Who'll get the tickets to "Mickey Mouse on Ice" for Sean Preston's birthday.

10. Who'll get the bad rap from tabloids.

11. Who'll be the first to rebound and date someone else immediately, marry them, and divorce less than a year later.

12. Who'll be the first to say, "Baby, I'm sorry, I want you back."

:P

Eh, whatever. It was bound to happen sooner or later. God, the days when Britney was a cute 'n' perky pop singer seem almost decades ago. Interesting spiral of fame that went up and then down.

I wasn't expecting this. I was last year, but I thought that they had just settled into married life, especially with the new baby. But I am glad that she divorced him. She and Justin Timberlake were so good together. They should get back together.

Amen.

Come on...can anyone honestly feel that bad about this? It's not like we didn't see this coming (and it's their own dang fault for not using what the rest of world usually calls common sense).
Yes, it is sad for the children, but it's only a matter of time till Sean Preston will have his own cheesy show on Nickelodeon that no one will watch. Look forward to that.

 hahahaha, it's funny because it's true, I can see it now, The S.P show :P I hope Kevin doesn't get anything from this, in my eyes 'K. Fed' is a trashy loser, he went into the marriage with practically nothing, so why should he leave with millions of dollars? I was expecting this, but I still feel sorry for Britney...her fame, popularity and respect crashed and burnt the day she married this dropkick, I don't blame her for leaving him.

http://www.mtvnews.com says that Britney put in the paperwork that she wants legal and physical custody, but Kevin can have visitation rights.

I just read about this, and I'm so sad for Britney, less so for Kevin, but a little. I've been a fan of hers since the MMC, and this is such a hard thing to go through (I mean, I haven't been through it, but one can guess). I'm shocked- when they first got together, maybe I thought that it wouldn't last, but then they got married and had babies...it's a sad thing.

But, she can totally do better, I'm sure.

I agree, I loved her and Justin together, but he's been with Cameron Diaz for a while, and she seems like a nice girl, too. Britney will find someone.

And to think that some people seemed to care more about this than the elections last night. This divorce thing went crazy on a bunch of message boards last night!

This was no surprise to anyone. If she hadn't gotten pregnant the second time this would all be old news.

Two no-talent people - couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of kids. I feel sorry for the babies in this, they are going to be the big losers. Neither of the parents will have any career after all this crap.

Britney had her fifteen minutes of fame, and - well, Kevin Federline was just a wannabe who never was.

Can't say that I was surprised by any of this. Just wish they had practiced birth control and there wasn't two little ones involved. They are the ones who will suffer in the end.

I'm shocked.

The bimbo and the himbo are getting divorced? NO WAY!!!! I wonder, will their two kids be able to read?

I figure by about 13, each will have been in rehab...twice.
