Upcoming Platinum Editions: Sleeping Beauty 2008, 2009...

Today, a friend of mine got the new Disney DVD Flyer from BV Germany, and they had two whole pages with the upcoming Platinum Editions.
One, of course was the Jungle Book which is due in October.
Second, 101 Dalmatians, which will be the Spring PE in 2008.
And third............ *drumroll*

Sleeping Beauty will be the Fall PE 2008!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if this is sure, and I'll try to get a scan of the page, but since this news was released by BV Germany it doesn't seem to be just a rumor.

As for me, I'm really excited about this, since I missed out one the 2-Disc Special Edition, and it is a great an visually stunning movie! :pink:

I know many of you would have liked to see Pinocchio, which is a great movie as well, and hasn't had a decent DVD release yet, but I think there are enough people who love SB and will be really looking forward to this release.

I think this is great news! Of course, I don't own any of the remaining PEs yet so any movie is fine by me  Thanks for the info, Dottie!

If this is true and SB gets a Platinum before Pinocchio...

It looks like I've got a new "Animated Classic" as my target. Sorry whiney red-headed fish, you're no longer alone.

I'm pretty bummed by this news. I greatly prefer "Pinocchio" to "Sleeping Beauty" and I'm realy antsy for it's PE release. I hate how Disney keeps trying to stray from their schedule. They changed the moratoreum rule from 10 years to 7 years, but they just broke it by releasing the sub-par "Peter Pan" PE and now they are going to do it again with "Sleeping Beauty." "Pinocchio" hasn't been released in the U.S. since 1999! That's already 9 years. It's supposed to be 7. "Sleeping Beauty was last released in 2003. It's only been 4 years. So why a PE treatment of it 5 years later when by that time, "Pinocchio" will already have not been available for 10 years!!!!!

I sincerely hope that this is either false or only the PE for certain countries and the the US (and other countries where the 2-disc wasn't released) gets "Pinocchio" after "101 Dalmatians." I'm sick of waiting.

I'm glad that it is coming out as a Platinum edition, but I would much have preferred Pinocchio first.

I'm rather worried that 101 Dalmations, as a February/March release, will receive less-than-adequate special features, as that appears to be the pattern. I really, really hope not.

I will definitely get Sleeping Beauty when it comes out (the R2 Special edition didn't have enough special features, though it had a great cover); I hope it has a sizeable documentary attached to it.

But why can't we have it after Pinocchio? I just hope that, when Pinocchio finally comes along, it will have some great special features (on par with Snow White and Aladdin's PEs).

I'm not very happy about this "news". Sleeping Beauty has a good 2 disk edition as it is. Poor Pinocchio needs his 2 disk, so that all the supposed Platinums at least have one good DVD release in the US.

Hope it's on Blu Ray too!

As much as I love Sleeping Beauty, I would Have preferred Pinocchio first. 5 years is to short and Pinocchio has only gotten a crappy 1-disc-with-only-one -bonus-feature DVD here in North America. It would have made more sense to put it out in 2009 for it's 50th Anniversary, but apparently no. All I hope is that they really go all out for this DVD (include everything in the past release but have a 50 plus minute documentary, a "Sleeping Beauty that never was" featurette, more trailers, and a second commentary (which is most unlikely.)

About a month ago, I'd have been really excited about this. But I managed to find a copy of the UK CE-release (for €15,- ^^), so I'm not desperate to get it anymore. I'll still buy the PE, mostly because of the commentary (which I'm assuming will be ported over) and because I always buy the PE's
Ah, who am I kidding? I'm excited about this! Too bad it's still so far away (though that gives me time to wear out my CE).

As I missed out on the Sleeping Beauty release in 2003, I like this news! Plus, I've never liked Pinocchio. Liked the book, didn't like the movie.

I already have the Special Edition of Sleeping Beauty, so it really doesn't matter much to me. I'm not a huge fan of Pinocchio, but I think I would rather have that one first. Is this news concrete? Hasn't the Platinum Edition order in other countries varied from the order in the United States. I see Dottie posted this, and she is from Germany, so it it possible that ONLY Europe will be seeing Sleeping Beauty in fall of 2008?

I don't think this going to be a Europe exclusive. The PE is an international DVD line, and normally what gets released in the US comes to Europe a few weeks or even months later (with a few exceptions like Lilo and Stitch...).
I just hope that somebody will soon be able to confirm this, and I'll try to post a scan of the BV Germany flyer as soon as I can.

If this is true, I am greatly disappointed. I for one already own the SE of Sleeping Beauty, and that's all I need. It has plenty of bonus features and a GREAT transfer (minus the slight flickering). I might have just purchased the VHS of Pinocchio about a month or two ago, but I've already become slightly attached to it. It's really a charming film, with BEAUTIFUL animation! I personally find the animation of Pinocchio more visually appealing than SB. Sleeping Beauty's animation has a lot of sharp, pointy edges which makes it far less realistic. Pinocchio's animation is more impressive to me considering when it was made. But I was hoping that by October 2008, I would be done with buying the Platinum Editions! (I will make an exception if we get a completely unedited Fantasia with more bonus features). Otherwise I'm only buying Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, and Pinocchio.

I'm just hoping that this isn't true.

I don't know, I'd have to say this news is REALLY surprising! It seems MUCH more logical that Disney would wait to release Sleeping Beauty until 2009, as it marks the films 50th Anniversary. And, since it already has recieved a two-disc treatment, it seems strange that it would come before Pinocchio.

i personally think this movie is amazing and i didn't buy thee last DVD, so its not an issue for me to look back and think wether i'll double dip or not.
The problem is, pinnochio i grew up with, and i lend the DVD when i was in the third grade and never got it back, and here i am almost 17 years old and i've only seen the movie once since, so it is sad news for me.

Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Animated Classic, but by that time I'll only need Pinocchio before I have all the Animated Classics on DVD, so this REALLY frustrates me. It's been too long since we've had Pinocchio and not long enough since Sleeping Beauty IMO.

If this is true, it doesn't mean it'll stay true though.

Sleeping Beauty is my favorite film (I have 3 copies of the SE), so of course I am happy about this. I do, however feel bad for Pinocchio, that film deserves a 2-disc treatment before Aurora gets her second 2-Disc release. I pray that Disney will give Aurora alot of new bonus features, including a new "Making Of". To all you Pinocchio fans, I know how it feels to wait. 101 Dalmatians is my second favorite film of all time. I've waited since Snow White for it to be released, but alas Disney put Peter Pan in it's place. I am very excited, my two favorite films of all time are being released, very soon.

I am hoping this isn't true as well.... I have the Sleeping Beauty SE 2-disc and am happy with that.... Unless as a gift pack such is offered as how Aladdin and The Lion King and Cinderella was offered..... Or I might buy it on Blu Ray if the blu ray is available.... Or if there some new features (which I am not sure what's left in that vault of theirs but I wouldn'tthink much is left) other than Pick the color of Aurora's Dress or some silly child's game like that.... But on the other hand like they say it should be... Pinocchio before Sleeping Beautys :P

Anyway then again perhaps after The Jungle Book is in October it will be 101 Dalmatians in the spring and then Pinocchio... That is my hope as I think they deserve to be Platinum 2-discs before Sleeping Beauty gets a Platinum 2-disc as Sleeping Beauty already has one... Ture its OOP but at least it got a decent release...
