Prince Ali is saying goodbye, at least for now...

I want to start off by saying that I really do love this place, I really do. It's the one and only forum I am an active member of and I have enjoyed reading the opinions and thoughts of each and every one of you on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I think it's time that I leave for a while...

I've been thinking a lot this past week about what is truly important to me. The Lord, my family, my friends, drama club, school, and of course, being happy; all of that is what I strive and live for. Ever since the Virginia Tech shooting on Monday, I began to realize how lucky I am. I've got all the makings to live a happy life, while some people aren't as fortunate. God has blessed me with so much and I take it for granted all the time, which isn't fair for me to do. I'm glad that I have a happy life, but I take all of my blessings for granted each and every day. It's sad that it took such a terrible tragedy as the Virginia Tech shooting for me to realize this, but it really has made me think about things.

To make a long story short, I've decided to put all of my time and energy into what I'm passionate about. Life as I know it could end in an instant, and I want to make sure that I do what I love as much as I can before it's too late. I will still be checking the front page often for news and DVD reviews, and I'm sure I'll lurk around the forum occasionally as well. Heck, I'll probably return and become a regular eventually, but as for now, I need to concentrate most on what I've listed in the paragraph above. I am happy, but I want to live my life to the fullest, which means focusing on what is important.

I have enjoyed my time here with all of you and I wish you all the best. I will post again eventually.

Until then,
Cameron

P.S.
Jesus loves you and so do I. :)

Hi there Cameron,

Death does have that affect on people, especially when it comes unexpected and in such a dangerous way. From death we can better understand and appreciate just how short and valuable our lives really are, so I can only wish you the best and all the happiness in the world. Just remember to come back one day and NOT say "Um...April Fool's?" ;)

Also, since you won't be around to keep us up to date on your screenplay activities, let me offer a final bit of advice:

Loosen up, have some fun. Sleep when you feel like it, ot when you think you should. Eat food that is bad for you, at least once in awhile. Have conversations with people whose clothes are not color coordinated. Make love in a hammock.

Life is the ultimate experience. You have to experience it in order to write about it.

(and if anyone else can name the movie that's from, I'll give you a pink elephant for the weekend.)

Escapay

P.S.
Jesus loves you, but I'm his favorite! :P

You have to do what makes you happy. I hope you do find what you are looking for, and accomplish your dreams and goals.

I don't think it's necessary for you to leave in order to do this. Perhaps spend less time, and don't feel obligated to come here on a daily basis. I just think that if you enjoy UD, you shouldn't leave it.

If you do leave, then I wish you all the best. I hope you'll reconsider. I will miss having you here.

Each person reacts in their own way, and if this is the way you have chosen I will support it every way.

I have just readjusted my life, and like some others am not spending every day on the internet. I do the things I want to do when I want to do them, and just jump on the internet whenever the urge hits me.

Don't let the computer rule your life, but don't think of it as your enemy either. Just schedule yourself for one day or one hour on the computer and stick to it for a while, and as things come around you will find that you are still visiting your favorite sites, and I hope we are one, and doing what you used to do, just not as often.

Good luck in whichever way you choose, but we will all miss you.

Have a nice time away from the computer, Cameron. It's good that you don't let the computer take over your whole life.

I've done some thinking and I've come to the conclusion that I should stay. I know, I know, that's very cliche considering just about everyone that has posted a "goodbye" thread has ended up staying. But I have my reasons. ;)

Anywho, I just want to clear up a few things. I appreciate all of the comments I have recieved from you, but I think some of you may have misinterpreted what I said. I didn't say I was unhappy, far from it; I'm the happiest guy there is! What I said was that I just needed to focus more on what is most important to me, which I still plan on doing.

To make a long story short, I'm staying. I think the whole Virginia Tech incident just put me into a "bleh" mood. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that I can put more time and energy into the things that I love and still be able to visit the best community on the web... :)

Thanks for all of your support!

Yay, you're back!

The advice still holds true, though. Especially the part about people whose clothes are not color coordinated! :P

And in a related note, yes, Princess Stitch, you got the answer right! It's the 1985 film The Sure Thing, starring a very young John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga. Here's a pink elephant on loan for the weekend. His name is Spixley, and he likes to eat peanut brittle dipped in ice cream. Silly, yes, but also rather delicious.

As long as you're staying, could you reply to my postings about Virgina Tech? :(

I'm glad to see that you are staying! I have contemplated leaving, a couple of times, myself. I'm glad that I decided to stay.

If it's something you truly enjoy, you just can't walk away!

So have I, in light of VT. I was afraid that I would sound pathetic, however, because I only joined in February.

Hey, great that you decided to stay!!!
I know, sometimes you have days where everything just seems like crap to you and you start thinking about your life and what you really want to concentrate on, but that goes away, and you realize that everything is fine just the way it is.

Young Americans have been dying in huge numbers for the last 4 years in Iraq. Others have been coming home maimed, blinded, limbless, and diseased. Why only now do people start taking stock of what's important and meaningful in their lives and counting their lucky stars? Because some nutjob goes postal on a college campus and it was all over the TV?

Death and violence is all a part of this world. Nowhere is 100% safe from harm. Nowhere. Security is relative. People need to keep that in mind EVERY DAY, and not wait until some traumatic event happens close to home to realize what's important and meaningful.

In my case, because I was reminded once again that the world doesn't believe I exist. Abortions happen every day, and I am very much pro-life because I have been told it is "my duty" to abort any future children I may one day have. Why? Prenatal testing. It is quickly becoming a woman's duty to abort her unborn "disabled" children. ALL my children will have abnormal genetics. Abortion is out of the question for me.

If prenatal testing existed before I was born and my parents had listened to the majority, I wouldn't be here today.

And yet, back to square one: Cho and the world do not think I exist.
