Yesterday I got my very first pair of glasses. For some months my eyes had felt, especially late in the evening, kind of "tired". And when driving I had the feeling that I couldn't see stuff fast enough, or not properly read signs
So I decided to go to an optometrist and he told me that I was slightly nearsighted and that I could decide if I wanted glasses or not. I decided to get them for driving and school, and yesterday I picked them up.
I wore them yesterday for some time, and today for some hours (but only at home and in town today)
But I do have the feeling that with the glasses on I can see better, but it looks a bit as if I was dizzy. And I got a bit of a headache today after wearing the glasses for some hours today (2-3 hours).
I wanted to ask, if anyone knows if this is normal, and if it only takes some time for my eyes to get accustomed to the glasses, or if I should go check them again?
I'm really unsure what I should do, or if I should just wait and see if it gets better?
It'd be really nice if you could help me, or give me some advice on how to get accostumed to my new glasses.

I have glasses due to semi lazy eye and it's been like that since Pre-school, one eye's focused then it switches sometimes....Finaly learned to control the lazy eye and make 'em work as a team.....It's hard for the eyes to adjust with the glasses, I'd settle for a few weeks/days and if they're still not properly funtioning then go to your doc. I got my 2007 pair round x-mas break and they're the sung/reg. glasses types. kinda bothered me for a while till I finaly got used to them. Congrats on your new glasses.

Dottie, I also wear glasses, and it does take a while to get used to them. You'll wonder later how you ever lived without them. Headaches are normal, and you'll probably get them every time you get a new pair. At least you didn't have astigmatism. I do, and couldnt' walk right for about an hour after I got my first glasses.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. I do have astigmatism on my left eye, so maybe that's the dizzy thing. Good to hear that others also had problems with their first glasses.

Don't worry, it will get better.. I've been wearing glasses (and contacts) since I was 12 (I'm now almost 25). I too have an astigmatism that makes me dizzy when looking at things up close.... my other eye has to compensate.... I find it worse with glasses than with contacts though...weird!

I said something so dumb regarding my glasses the other day. Someone forgot his glasses and things were going crazy, so everyone with glasses or contacts started goofing off and saying things like, "You can borrow mine!"

I said, "You can borrow at mine, but only one of my eyes is real." Everyone stared and laughed at me. "I MEAN! Only one of the lenses is a prescription lens! You knew I meant to say that."

I've been wearing glasses since I was 12. I'm just simply nearsighted.

I've been wearing glasses for a long time. Probably as early as 1st grade. I am near sighted and have a very bad stigmitisim. I use to hate the glasses, but got use to them.

I have also been wearing glasses ever since I was in the 6th grade. Its not a very big deal for me. I have to wear mine all day and I only take them off when I go to bed or when I take a shower (obivously). I am mildly nearsighted and it does take a while to get used to them. I have had my current pair since 2006.

*Well, what do you say when only one of your lenses is prescription? Glass? Contact?

I've had glasses for more than twenty years - since the ago of nine or so. So I'm definitely used to it. Hardly thought of it as much of a problem, but I ended up breaking them one late evening quite a few years ago. Then I felt quite handicapped for a while. I got my current pair just a few weeks ago.

i got glasses last year and it does take a couple of days to get used to them. i first learned that i needed them when i was in driving school. when they were doing the vision test all i could see where blured letters but i thought that it was because they were to far and to tiny to read. but the next day my mom had me go to the nurse, who is a friend of hers, and take her vision test that i always passed but i couldn't read it so she said that i had to get glasses. i went to one of those walmart owned ones and got them the next day when they said i would get them in a couple of weeks . it has helped me a little in school. when i went to school with the glasses the other kids thought that i had worn contacts before and had lost them until i told them. the only time i have to take them off is for sleeping, when i take a shower, and reading a book. that shows how blind i am.

Oh no, you are not as blind as some people, like me. When I take off my glasses, I can't see beyond, clearly, about 4-5 inches from my eyes. I have to wear my glasses all the time, except for sleeping and showering. My whole family has glasses, and my grandmother is legally blind. I had to get glasses when I was Kindergarten, so Dottie, you shouldn't be worried. Whenever I get a new pair, everything is funny and I feel like I just spun around and around about 1,000 times. You'll get used to it. I too have astigmatism, your not alone.

I'm actually not really worried about having glasses now. They do look nice btw .
It's just the fact, that it takes some time to get used to them which bugs me a bit. It's kinda weird, and new to me. But I wore them a lot today, and it's getting better with the dizzy feeling and the headaches, so I think it'll be fine in some days.

How fast did your eyes become worse after you had your first pair?
I have "0,5" and "0,75 with astigmatism", which really is not much, but I'm a bit afraid of my eyes getting worse very quickly.

I used to wonder about that myself- do glasses cause headaches(?). But I needed the glasses for seeing further away, which I'd only use when out in public.

But it was a problem because headaches for me are about the last thing I can stand, physically. I hate headaches much more than most people. As a kid, I used to feel like I was dying when I'd get a headache. And nowadays, my headaches go straight to my stomach and I begin to feel nauseous. And that's the worst, a throbbing head mixed with a constant queasy feeling. Sometimes taking Ibuprofen, which is what I take, didn't even work.

But me and glasses, which I don't wear but maybe twice a month usually, the worst thing is pinching. On my ears. But I think my headaches were from the fact that the lenses weren't as strong as I think they needed to be. Still aren't. But I can't afford to get them fixed.

It should be possible to solve that problem by having them "adjusted" a bit.

That's the part I couldn't afford.

I own both glasses and one eye's contacts. (See above.) The thing I secretly have against contacts is putting objects into eyes bothers me! Oh, well. I just ignore it - but it bothers me! Bluyck!

For some reason I can stand people placing their contacts in, but when it comes to eye drops *shuders* have to look away, I can't even hold still for the eye doctor to put eye drops in my eyes, procraste for a while till the my nerves calm down a bit.

Well, my eyes have just slowly gone down hill over the past decade. I don't ever think that my eyes rapidly became worse, but they sure have over the years. I don't think that you should really worry too much about it now, then again, no one is for sure what anyone's eyes will do. For instance, my mom used to always have to wear glasses, but the last time she went in to have her eyes checked, the optometrist (sp?) said that she didn't have to wear glasses at all. It sure was mysterious, so maybe that will happen to me, I don't know.
