Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition

now, sleeping beauty is by far one of the most worthy disney movies to receive the Platinum Edition title however, i dont get why Disney needs to release it as a Platinum Edition when there is a perfectly fine 2-disk special edition. i would rather see a film that has yet to be released as a 2-disk dvd at all such as Hercules, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fox and the hound, Dumbo, Robin Hood, etc. now i am fully aware that Fox and the Hound and Dumbo and Robin Hood already have special editions out but i would love to see them get a 2-disk treatment..does anybody agree with me here??

I'm pretty biased, as "Sleeping Beauty" is one of my favorite Disney movies ever, and I think it's worthy of the Platinum title, even though it has a pretty good 2-Disc DVD set already. Not to say I wouldn't like "Hunchback" and "Hercules" to get a really nice release at some point, maybe even 2-Disc, but I doubt they'd be part of the Platinum line.

"Sleeping Beauty" is a great movie. I think that all Disney animated classics deserve 2-disc special editions. I think that SB has a nice 2-disc set. Sure, it could be upgraded, and I'd hope they do upgrade it for the PE. I'm very curious as to how they'll upgrade the SE for the PE. I think that "Sleeping Beauty" is as worthy as any other animated classic to get a 2-disc special edition. I guess it's just a slap in the face to those who are waiting for a decent DVD of certain films while some films will have two 2-disc sets.
Many people were upset that the "Peter Pan" Platinum Edition DVD wasn't much of an upgrade over the SE DVD. But, for those of us who didn't have the SE of "Peter Pan", the PE is great. For those DVDs that already have SE DVDs (such as "Sleeping Beauty" and "Fantasia") that will also be getting the PE treatment, the PE may be considered a rerelease and not a necessary double-dip (like "Peter Pan" in some people's eyes). Some may see no need for "Fantasia" to get the PE treatment, but I only just got both "Fantasia" films on DVD, and I don't have the anthology...for those with the Anthology, they may not want to get the PE (unless it has amazing bonus features and/or is unedited). I have the SE of "Sleeping Beauty" so I'm not looking as forward to that as I am for most of the other PE's. I'll double-dip (and not sell the old version) if it has enough worthwhile new material. I'll double-dip and sell the old DVD if it ports over most of the SE bonus material plus adds some new worthwhile material. I won't buy the PE at all if it barely adds anything new that the SE doesn't have.

Perhaps to include a long and in-depth documentary (the 16-minute piece is fine and packs a punch, but goes by too quickly), additional trailers, the Helene Stanley clip from "Mickey Mouse Club", some radio interviews and radio spots, and maybe a few more featurettes. Also, a Platinum release could also remove the godawful cover art, the cringeworthy No Secrets music video, and the unnecessary 1.33:1 Pan & Scan transfer.
I'm perfectly content with the two-disc SE as well (it's got a nice selection of bonus material, awesome commentary, and some great related vintage shorts), but will upgrade/double-dip if the time comes and the features look worth it. Hopefully its Platinum double-dip will be better than
Peter Pan's...

I am perfectly fine with the current 2 disc special edition. I think they should let other films, such as 101 Dalmatians and Pinocchio take the Platinum Edition spot seeing they have not had a decent release in years!

Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney film. It deserves a 2-disc Platinum Edition. Although, it's Special Edition was a fantastic release, it leaves room for improvement. They could add an updated "Making of" feature and other supplements. The movie is one of Disney's most cherished classics, and in my opinion the most artistically stunning Disney film ever. I do, however feel bad for titles like Hercules, Hunchback, and the never released Lilo & Stitch SE. Those films deserve Special Editions before they release Aurora on PE.

Most people's thoughts here are pretty similar to my own. I think Sleeping Beauty's a worthy title to receive Platinum treatment. The collection's supposed to represent the brightest gems in Disney's animated canon, and I feel the movie's easily one of those.
That said, I'm very satisfied with my SE. There's no way for the picture to be improved on SD, so the only selling point with me on the PE would be additional extras. While the SE is excellent overall, I feel it could use a bit more retrospective features (there's only about 40 minutes of non-archival video featurettes). If the PE adds more of those but retains the galleries and vintage features, then I'll upgrade. Heck, if the PE is exactly like the SE but with better cover and disc art, I may even upgrade then (Aurora looks like Cher on the cover, Phillip looks like Jay Leno, the rose looks like it's coming out of Aurora's boob, and Aurora looks like a man in drag on the disc one art).

That's all a question of marketing and whether it's time for SB to be released again. Is there anything about the PEs in general that indicates that the "Platinum treatment" is any better than the "treatment" SB has already got?

I'd want a platinum edition... The two disc SE isn't filled with a lot of behind the scenes stuff

i agree with all of you..SB was my all time favorite film when i was younger and will definetly upgrade. hopefully, as somebody said, the very stupid no secrets music video will be dropped and in its place many more features. i would also remove the sing along, disney art project, ink and paint game and widescreen to pan and scan comparison. i think all that stuff was really not needed. with all this gone, theres room for deleated scenes, making of, etc, etc. who agrees??

A little harsh today, aren't we Disneykid??

Personally, I never understood why so many people detest the Sleeping Beauty SE cover art. As far as the upcoming Platinum Ed. of SB, as much as I think it deserves another edition, I'm perfectly happy with my SE. Then again, I'm also a little biased because I never saw Sleeping Beauty until my sophmore year in high school (or, two years ago). Therefore, I'm not attached to it as I am to other Disney films such as The Lion King or Fantasia which I watched religiously growing up.
On the note of Fantasia, and on blackcauldron's thought's, I personally own the Fantasia Anthology. I'm absolutely in shock (yes, it's been months since I bought the set, and I'm STILL in shock over...) how many bonus features the set has! I know there are many here who live for the bonus features on Disney DVD's, but the Anthology set surpasses my expectations. Anyway, the only factor (and I mean only!) that would lead me to instantly buy the Fantasia PE would be if it were TRUELY unedited. (aka: Sunflower in all her glory). Along with that, I would like the unedited theatrical trailer as seen on youtube.com. (I would post a link, but I'm a little lazy at the moment...

) By the way, when do you guys think we'll see that Fantasia Platinum Edition? I'm thinking sometime in 2010. (2008- 101 Dalmatians, Pinocchio; 2009- ???, Snow White). Besides, then it could be the 70th Aniversary Ed. Doubt they'd call it that though. (People still have the 50th and 60th Anniv. Editions!)
PS- Sorry for the above rant on Fantasia...

i have never seen fantasia but when it comes out on PE DVD, i will be buying it so that way, i can have all of the PE(except for the original 2). im hoping that 2009, the orig. 2 PE DVD's will come out..i think that would be just great

i think all the DAC's should be relleased as 2-Disc special edition or platinum, even an anniversary edition with 2 discs atleast
those single-disc releases(Dumbo, Oliver&Company, Peter Pan) should've just been 2 discs

good point disneystarsfan. i feel the same way. i refuse to buy dvds such as Dumbo Bog Tp Edition, Fox and the Hound 25th anniversary, Robin Hood Most Wanted Edition, and most likely The Aristocats because im afraid that disney will release a 2-disk even bigger edition. Note to Disney: Stop with the re-releasing! were happy with the versions you send ouy unless you hear otherwise.

I already have the Special Edition that came with pretty good selection of features. I would feel really ripped off if they released a 2 DISC Platinum Edition with even MORE features. Just turned Sleeping Beauty on last week because my three year old niece wanted to watch it.
I think Pinocchio needs a Platinum before SB. Plus, one of these days DVDs will be replaced with either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. I could see a BluRay Edition being released in the future.

I have the movie "Sleeping Beauty" on VCD with just the movie itself, not the DVD. I didn't get the Special Edition DVD a couple of years back, but it's now out of print. The one film that I haven't seen is "The Grand Canyon" which is also included with the "Sleeping Beauty" DVD. As for now, I have just the movie "Sleeping Beauty" itself on VCD. I have the full screen edition on VHS and the wide screen edition on VCD. I've seen the wide screen edition but it's kinda crippled which is in a VCD format.

I hope it comes in a 2 disc Platinum Edition. I have NEVER seen the movie...and I would really like to, instead of having to buy the SE online somewhere, since it is out of print.
PLEASE RELEASE IT AS A PE!!!

i missed it when it was out so i'm going to get it anyway. i do think it deserves to be PE material but when they released it just a couple years ago and releaseing it again in a couple years is just a bit much. they should've done a film that hasn't seen the light of day in over 15 years. the film i'm talking about is The Black Cauldron. i love that film. i don't get how it could fail with it's interesting story and darker tone for older crowds. they released it since the gold colletion and thats why it deserves it since the gold was just a trivia quest and another trivia and nothing else. it's so bad it's not funny. other films are Hercules and Hunchback since they haven't been out since the gold collection too. they should just rerelease all the gold colletion that hasn't been redone yet but better much better. then i'll be happy
