Dinseyland/World Question - LA or Florida?

Well, my girlie and I have pretty much made the decision to go to the US next year and do the whole 'Disney' experience. It will be my second time at Disneyland if we go there (I was 8, mind you, when I last went :P). Her first time.
Once we get over there it is pretty cheap for us to arrange a return flight to another city, so we thought we might extend the trip a week and go to another city.
So after all that, The Question is this:
For the people who have been to both, Disneyland (LA) or World in Florida? Which one should we set aside more time for, and if we decide to do both, which one should we do first ?
If I had to choose one, which one should it be? I'm leaning towards LA because it was 'Walt's vision', but I'm open to suggestions at this point.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for helping out this clueless Antipode.

I'll let others chim ein with more detail since I'm leaving in about ten minutes. However I wanted to chime in and tell you that Florida has much more to do than just DisneyWorld:

--There's Epcot
--There's Universal Studios Orlando (yes there is one in Hollywood, too)
--There's Islands of Adventure
--There's SeaWorld
--There's Busch Gardens (in Tampa Bay)
--There are world class Golf Courses EVERYWHERE

Basically Orlando is a theme park Mecca. Seems like there's a different water park or ride park every few miles or so and you will not run out of things to do or see in your time there.

Also, to just do Walt Disney World properly you need at least 5 days there. Disneyland you could probably do everything in 2 days, 3 tops.

I would say WDW since there is so much to see there. Disney wise and other attractions as well. Islands of Adventure, Sea World, Universal. Also, there is Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island to account for too.

It takes me 5 to 7 days to complete my Disney WDW excursions whereas Disneyland usualy only takes me 2 days.

Well, since I could say I've been to both (Even if I haven't) I guess I would tell you to go to the Walt Disney World Resort since there are 4 Disney-themed parks, beside other ones, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios and The Animal Kingdom. So I would visit there, its fun, the one you must see is Magic Kingdom.

If you really, really like Disney animated classics, I think you should go to Disneyland, since I've heard it is just like Disneyland Paris, and they have more Animated Classic themes, Alice's Maze, Pinocchio's Adventure ride...

Go to Disney World it would take longer to see everything like a week. But it is worth it because Disneyland in LA has lot of out of order rides right now. :D

And if you run out of things to do, hop on a plane to Indianapolis.
It's so picturesque here in the Wintertime...if you like grey days with no sun, lots of cold, snow, ice and all-around miserable winter conditions.

While I have never been to WDW (would like to, someday!), I've been to DL three times (when I was five, ten, thirteen) and while I'm not sure if DL has a Pinocchio themed ride, there's no "Alice's Maze". There's the "Alice in Wonderland" ride (which you ride in little cars that resemble the Caterpillar and the ride recreates Alice's experiences) and the famous "Mad Tea Party" ride (which you ride in giant tea cups and spin around), but I think "Alice's Maze" is in Disneyland Paris.

I'm looking for reasons to GO to the US, MMB, not stay away lol :P

See I'd like to go to 'Land, becuase it is the 'original'. But if you all think I'd get mor eout of WDW...
Mind you, Florida is more expensive to stay at apparently...

Well seriously now, when are you planning your trip?
If it's sometime soon I'm not gonna waste my time (and yours) talking up Indy. But if you're planning on a spring trek...that's all-together different. Indianapolis in the spring is incredible. A whole lot of stuff to do including the Indianapolis 500 at the end of May.

You're probably right, since I've never been to Disneyland, I don't know for sure...

I would go to Disney Wolrd first. It takes you at least a day in Epcot, Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios. If I went back and only had 5 days I wouldn't got to Animal Kingdom its like a zoo but with (some) rides.

Myself, I'm partial to Disneyland, if only for the fact that it's the original. However, I hve yet to visit DCA and I have no idea how good (of bad) it is. My advice is you decide how much time you want to allot yourself. I'm one of those people who want to do everything and miss nothing, so I would have a really hard time spending less than a week at Disney World. But I'm the extreme. Some people feel that they only need on day at each park and if that is the case, it would only take you 4 days at Disney World. Of course, if you want to add on the water parks, Downtown Disney, etc., that's another story.

Well, I am leaving for WDW in 13 days myself, so my vote would be for WDW! However, I do want to go to Disneyland next year. But, if you want to spend more time (and money!) WDW is the better choice. There is more to do there. I, too, want to see the park that started it all, so Disneyland is my next quest.

I am spending 7 days in WDW and feel that it takes at least that to see al four parks and Downtown Disney.

If you have the time, go for it!!

Disneyland is the original park Walt built, and in my eyes, will always be the best of the parks. True, theres more to do in Florida, but theres something about Disneyland that just feels "magical" that no other place I've been to has managed to match.

My feelings exactly. WDW may have all the mod-cons, but the purist in me wants to see the "original vision". The fanboy in me is tingling already.
I think we have pretty much decided to go to 'land in LA and maybe one other place.

But I have a strange hankering to go to Portland, Oregon for some reason....

I've been to both and let me say that DL is like a rough draft of "Walt's vision".

Go to DisneyWorld. It rocks.
