I know that this is going to seem kinda childish, but I'm a 15 year old boy thinking about having a disney themed birthday for my 16th next month.

I really want one based on the disney classic animated films, and not so much the modern blockbusters like "Pirates of the Carribean" etc.
Princess kind of ideas are OK, as long as they relate to the film and not so much the franchise. I haven't really got many ideas yet, so I thought I'd ask some experts to be my virtual party planners.

Not sure about a party. It's my birthday next week and I'm going to Disneyland Paris for the week. Will be spending my birthday (12th March) in the Disneyland Park.

Dude, just... no. Trust me on this, it's bad enough for teenage boys to enjoy watching Disney films, having a Disney party for your 16th is a step too far.

Unless you are some sort of super popular PR guru you will never be able to sell the idea to people.

Disney parties for us older people are very hard because Disney caters so much to the younger demographic. I know because I've wanted to have a Disney-themed birthday for ages but couldn't really find anything suitable. With decorations, your best bet is to take a little of each supply kit Disney's got out there to get a general Disney theme. As far as I know, the only Disney classics that have decorations devoted to them are Cinderella, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, and The Little Mermaid. I suggest mixing those three with some of Mickey and the gang (the Cinderella and Little Mermaid ones are actually not that girly). If (thematically) that's still not enough variety, then add Pixar films (I believe the only one that doesn't have decorations is A Bug's Life). I know you only wanted to focus on animated classics, but we're working with slim pickings, here.

As for entertainment, that's even harder. I'm not the best judge as to what is considered cool for a party, but my friends and I usually just play board games and watch DVDs, both of which can easily be applied to Disney. The best scenario is to play Disney SceneIt. I guarantee you that even if your friends aren't into Disney, they'll eat up that game. If you friends DO like Disney, then maybe some Disney versions of other board games can work. From what I remember, Disney's released their own versions of Trivial Pursuit (which may be superfluous after SceneIt), Monopoly, Sorry, Bingo, Guess Who, and some other well-known games. Still assuming your friends like Disney, watching a film would be fitting. Obviously it's going to be hard to get agree everyone to agree on one thanks to Disney's wide variety. I say bring out four of five of your favorites (animated classics if you want to stick with the theme) and let them vote. As for music, you've got a buttload of choices before you. You can play film soundtracks, compilation albums (so that there's an even mix of vocalized songs), or cover versions ala Disney Mania. You could even have Disney karaoke.

Wow, I just typed an awful lot for someone who had no clue how to plan a Disney party for a teenage guy. It all really boils down to who you're inviting. If your friends are Disney fanatics, then this will be fun and easy to plan. If they're not, then it'll be more difficult and should probably be way more low-key. I'm sure other members here will come up with really great ideas, and maybe you'll find a nugget or two of worthwhile stuff in my ramblings. If I think of anything else, I'll post it here.

Lighten up a little would ya! Everyone I know knows that I love disney, and the party was their idea! I wasn't too sure at first about how to do it, which is why I'm asking you guys.

I especially love the "dude, just...no". I'm afraid you must be hanging out on the wrong forum if that's how you see disney. Unfortunately for you I'm one of those people who's completely comfortable doing the things I enjoy without hiding them, which is a waste of time. I'm quirky and slightly neurotic, and I'm sure that plenty of guys like you see me and roll their eyes, but I don't mind.

if you love disney and are older who cares....if your frienda are your friends they will love the idea too....so i think to make the party have an older appeal go with something classic and elegant but bo pink or pixie dust or tiaras anywhere....i think for a boy a BLACK AND WHITE theme would be cool....all mickey black and white, and for decorations u could take your fav disney artwork and take them to kinkos, blow up the pics in black and white, and do the rest of the decorations in like black white silver whatever, make it look oldschool and classic, not TOO TOO colorful or babish and u can pull it off

I think Disneykid summed it up pretty good. QueenRahel has a pretty good idea about the Black and White Mickey theme. I would try avoiding some of the Princess stuff since Princess stuff would be more suitable for a girls party than a boys. If the party was your friends idea, maybe you could get together with them and make some plans, that way you don't have to do it alone? One thing my family does, is we split up different parts of the party, decorations, food etc. and we supply whatever it is we picked, my aunt would go out get balloons and other decorations, my grandma would supply food etc. You could try doing that, than on the day of the party have everyone come early and just have a mini-party setting up for the real one Play music while you decorate and get food prepared, than on to the real party Hope this helps

One thing you could do is have everyone dress up as thier fav disney charactor.. and maybe if there is enough ppl (10+) a costume voting contest.. or a name that villan game... that's about all i can come up with for the moment

i think you should go either classy with my black and white theme or go with angels ideas of having a disney costume party so it doesnt seem to kiddy or babish....

For my thirteenth birthday party, I did donald duck themed. The restaurant banquet room was covered with blue and white streamers, and I had a big cut out of donald. The cake, plates (paper), napkins, cups and tablecloths were all donald themed. Party favors were cheap french berets that had the little black thing sewn on top and donald masks. I'm sure the waiters at chevys thought we were crazy, but it was a ton of fun.

Are you saying that older people should not watch Disney films?

To add on to Disneykids Karaoke idea, why not have a Karaoke Contest? give out prizes for Best Duet, Solo etc. The best part about Angels idea is that since your all dressed up nobody would feel weird being dressed up, since everyone else is as well.

Do Alice in Wonderland Tea Party. Can get wacky, funny and Wonderlandish. I'm sure everyone love Alice and Wonderland. If you have a cute blonde as one of your friends, have her be Alice and you be Mad Hatter. There ya go, a party Blast for ya.

Thanks guys!! Great ideas! I love the black and white theme - it sounds so classy and mature! I think that's along the lines of what I'll do. I may incorporate a few other characters I like into it too!

find (or write) a how to host a murder game that has similar characters to a disney movie or idea and substitute the names. We did this once and had Cruella kidnap Mickey, others there included Belle, Donald, Iago, Merlin, and Minnie. in the end, the "murder" was faked and it Mickey returned with the refreshments.

GREAT! hoped youd like my ideas, and i just think that for a male a classy black and white theme would look grown up and masculine....disney is usually very colorful which is fun, but for a more grown up boy feel the black and white would just make a great setting.
