While we're on the subject of Buena Vista and Blu-ray, I've learned today that the forthcoming release of Cars and the Pirates of the Caribbean films will include so much material that they'll be 2-disc sets (BD50s). Cars is expected to be released in late June. Official details should be announced in the next few weeks.

Begin mass outrage here. Thank you.

I'm so excited for this release now! With John Lasseter having more power at Disney, he'll probably have an even bigger say in what should be on the dvd. Alas, we have to wait for the press release to find out whether the features are worth it...but I'm thinking they're bound to be good!

So Does this mean there will be no 2-disc DVD edition of Cars But instead there will be a 2-Disc Blu Ray of Cars or will there be both????

Let's hope not although that would intrique me to buy that Blu Ray... It's Times like this I am glad I got my Playstation 3....

IF There is no 2-disc DVD of Cars and instead there is only a 2-disc Blu Ray Release of Cars I think Disney might be getting a lot of petitions sent to them and hate mail.... :P (Not from me though)

Dammit Disney, when can you go about releasing a bells-and-whistles two-disc Blu-Ray of The Rocketeer?? That'd be persuasion enough for me to upgrade to Blu-Ray, not Cars!

According to davisdvd.com, the Pirates Blu-Rays also have these Java-enhanced features...

-"Scoundrels of the Sea" - interactive in-movie feature that will feature on-screen trivia and facts about the legends and lore of pirates. (on COTBP)

-"Liar's Dice" - a single-player game shot in live-action HD video. (on DMC)

this sounds like the release I held out for. I didnt buy the first cars dvd due to having such lousy extras. Hopfully this will be released on dvd, if not in june, a bit later. its possible they just want the blu ray set to get the spot light for a bit, and still release a newer version of the standard dvd.

I guess this explains the lousy single disc edition release of Cars on DVD late last year, guess they wanted to give buyers and reason to double dip for the Blu-Ray edition later on. Booo!

Please tell me you are kidding, Escapay?! Cars would be a much greater reason to upgrade to Blu-Ray, than The Rocketeer! At least in my opinion, which is really the only one that matters, you know? ;) I'm giving you a hard time, really. However, Cars is a much better film than you give it credit for.

Truth be known, it doesn't matter to me what Disney, or any other studio releases, on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. I'm sticking to good ol' standard definition, until we can have just one format. Then, the prices need to come down, before I would consider upgrading. I'm not going to spend the amount of money necessary to buy an HD television set, plus a player, when we don't even have a clear winner.

So, my question is, will there be a 2-Disc DVD release of Cars, with all of this great extra material that we should have received in the first place? If not, then Disney can eat their Blu-Ray release, for all I care.

My main reason to upgrade to Blu-Ray is swayed more by the possibility of an anamorphic and restored picture for The Rocketeer that it is my you're-sure-to-disagree-with-it-opinion on the merits of a film like Cars. ;) :P

Besides, I'm sure Cars would look spectacular in high-def, but if I wanna start buying high-def tech and discs for specific titles that the DVD is just fine (or worse off), I'd still choose The Rocketeer over Cars in a heartbeat! Fun and engaging action film with wonderful visuals and spectacular soundtrack versus...a mediocre CGI flick that'll just look more pretty and sharp at 1080p. :P :P :P

Plus, wouldn't you rather see Jennifer Connolly in high-definition glory over a bunch of cars? :D

Mediocre?! Blasphemy, I tell you. Pure blasphemy! Cars is far from mediocre! However, we'll just agree to disagree.

Oh, and I can honestly say that Cars in high-definition would do more for me than Jennifer Connolly ever could. ;)

Ah yes, I forgot about the whole sexual orientation thing. :P

And at least the two of us agree to disagree civilly and jovially, as opposed to..well, you know. :P :P :P

Why would it be your only Blu Ray? If you're going to buy something to play it on, you may as well buy more discs for it :?

I've pre-ordered my PS3 but I have no real intrest in Blu-Ray, I'm just getting it to play games, I don't have and HD-TV and I don't see the point in buying more expensive discs if I can't see them how they are meant to be seen

Well, I've got bad news for you. I think some of the PS3 games will be hard to play on a normal TV. The only reason I got a new HD TV was because I was fed up at having to squint to see scaled down text on my old TV when playing Xbox 360 games. The HD DVD add-on I got was just gravy really. The main reason was to play my games properly. The PS3 games may work on a normal TV, but just like Blu Ray, you're not seeing them how they were meant to be seen.

I can civilly and jovially say that Blue Ray are not that expensive. They are $23.95 at Amazon!! Buy them and keep them until you can afford a Bue Ray Player!! I hope for The Rocketeer to be released in Blue Ray soon!!!

You can buy a bright 24" Widescreen Full 1080p DVI-HDCP/2 Component/VGA/S-Video/Composite/4 usb2..0 sRGB-HDTV 1200 x 1920 pixel monitor today for $649 at J&R or get it at CompUSA, BestBuy, etc.
(You also need a good HDMI to DVI cable)

You have no idea how incredible they look.

To me there's a clear winner. 90% studio support, sales 2:1, 190 titles released in the US and 140 coming soon, 24 Disney releases already and Pirates Neverland Cars and Chicken Little just a couple of months away.
What more could you want? Music?

1080p monitor

With the Cars BD being 2 discs, does that mean a 2 disc DVD is coming in June! Please say yes! I'm hoping Disney doesn't give DVD the shaft.

Yay, someone's using my phrase! I had meant it towards the whole T/P Fan versus MMO debacle, but now it can be used for everybody, woohoo!
