Supposedly 7 years I think, but they can always be found in retail stores for at least the next 3 years and they're usually readily available online. It's really just an annoying marketing ploy.

Well, since the DVD format is still relatively new I don't know if there really is a moratorium system in place that says a title is shelved for say 7 or 10 years. I think at this point it's just assumed things will go the same as they did for the VHS releases.

I would also caution about waiting too long on Platinum titles you want. Unless I'm mistaken I believe Snow White and Beauty and the Beast are next to impossible to find at retail prices now. It may look like there are a lot of copies of The Lion King out there (and there are) but they will disappear quicker than you think.

A lot of stores put the Snow White DVD back on the shelves when Beauty and the Beast came out (especially the VHS cuz no one bought them).

And both Snow White and Beauty and the Beast are usually put back on the shelves when another "Princess" movie comes out, like Cinderella 2, Belle's Magical World etc.
