I don't think any one knows yet but I think they'll be re-released once then there will be another format or line

I think once they've all been released on DVD they'll start re-releasing them. I have to say I'm a bit surprised at some of the films being included in the Platinum Edition line, or what's more, which one's aren't. Although I do believe it's sale-driven (best selling Disney films of all time are selected, correct?). I wonder what the re-releases will be like, if they'll be essentially duplicates or if they'll have new bonus features in addition to the features from the original. I hope it's the latter.

I'm surprised at the Jungle Book's inclusion as well as 101 Dalmations. Both amazing films, to be sure, but perhaps because I was born during the Disney rennaissance begun by The Little Mermaid that I would have expected to be in there (Pocahontas especially, although I know it didn't do the greatest financially). This is not to imply that I think that the Jungle book or the 101 Dalmations are lesser films in any way, I just hadn't expected them as part of the Platinum Editions. I still really like both movies, and will most likely get them when they're released.

I am still baffled that "Dumbo" didn't make the list for the Platinum Editions! The rest of the list is seems great to me.

Actually I agree with you in some way... Disney's Rennaissance is very important to me - The Little Mermaid was the first movie I ever saw in a theater - and I feel that Pocahontas is a great movie, for me is much better than the Lion King (make no mistake, I like this one too, but I think that Pocahontas is in another level of quality).

I agree with you 100% about TLK and Pocahontas. But let's not forget that Poc has a great 2-disc DVD, so even if it doesn't bear the "Platinum" label (anyway, most of them are "Special Edition" and your random movie fan probably can't tell the difference) all is good!

Well, supposedly, the Platinum Collection is made up of the 14 best-selling titles. 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book are in it because they both sold like hot cakes (well enough for them to even be in the top 10 before four more were added). More deserving movies like Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland didn't make the cut because Disney constantly kept them in print, so they were never in high demand from the public. Even though Pocahontas was only released once before Disney DVD was born, that release apparently didn't sell well enough to even make it to the top 14.

To go one up from that, does anyone know how all 45 animated classics rank in order from best selling to least selling? I've always been curious and I can never find a reliable site that would tell me this.

Honestly, and I know I'm probably in the minority here, I hope the Platinum Editions are never re-issued. I mean of course I want to see the 14 films re-issued again, but never under the platinum banner.

The PE's were supposed to be a very special line of releases, and by having two platinum editions of the same movie, I think they'd be taking away from what made them special.

I'm completly for re-issues of all the movies on DVD, just don't but them under that special banner. Even if they have exactly the same features. Then 10 years from now or whenever, once a new format has taken over, bring on the "Diamond Editions".

Isn't there an overall number? I think that's what disney took into consideration for the PE's.

I agree with you Widi. I think every animated classic should be treated equally. I would love to see each classic released with the same criteria as the PE's. Then again, i'm sure that if Disney were to put in the same amount of time and money into each classic as they did with the platinums they would loose more money than actually gain. at least this would happen on some titles more than others. One can only dream i guess.

If I remember correctly, Disney said it was made up of the best-selling home videos in their library, which pretty much reflects box office gross, anyway (all of the Platinums have huge box office numbers if adjusted for inflation).

I agree, though, that I'd like to see every Disney animated classic treated equally. That's the way it was in the VHS days, and it's obvious that the separation of films didn't work as well as Disney had hoped since they killed off the Gold Classics Collection. We'll have to wait and see what Blu-Ray has in store for us Disney fans.

I also wish they would finish the unreleased platinum dvds before rereleasing Snow White and Beauty and the Beast as well...actually I wish they would just add all of their films under the Platinum line.

But really, what other bonus features could they possibly add onto the platinum editions already padded with bonus features?

I agree. Once Snow White's moratorium is over (next year), I hope Disney re-releases it under a different collection. It would take away from the "special-ness" of them!
