"American Idol 2007" Discussion Thread

It is that time of the year once again, after all is said and done about the way the tryouts are conducted, and how rude Simon Cowell is, we are down to the Top 24, and next Tuesday, February 20 will begin the elimination rounds.

Among the Top 24 this year is a young man from here in Wichita, Kansas. He formerlly attended Northwest High School and appeared in all of the high school musical productions and then moved on. His name is Phil Stacey, and his MySpace page gives you a very indepth biography about is life, and why he tried out for "American Idol". His distinctive tenor voice will set him apart from most of the contestants, and my own personal opinion is that he will go quite aways in the competition, maybe even as far as the Top Four.

Well, the 2007 'Idol' elimination shows are under way and it is up to us, the viewers to help pick the next American Idol. Will you be watching?

The last girl who was told she made it was hot. I cannot remember her name, but I thought she was insanely beautiful.

I don't watch this hardcore. My parents watch it, and I'll catch a bit walking from room to room. I noticed they had a really cute teen from Texas and Simon was telling her she was a record producer's dream, (during the first auditions) and just totally complimenting her like crazy. Then, she she had some bad luck when they had to form groups one day (I just overheard this part), and because she had bickering partners, she ended up getting kicked out. I was shocked to over hear that after all the raving, and she was a real cutie as I remember from her first audition. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Simon is producing a record with her right now, ha. They might have just wanted to get her off the show right away so they could get down to business. I mean, why would you let a "record producer's dream" get away, if you were a smart record producer? Anyways, thought that bit was interesting.

I haven't liked any of the contestants this season. Granted, I haven't been watching every episode. The first weeks have been making my ears bleed, so I've been avoiding the show!

It's like everyone in the world suddenly thinks they can sing now. Pardon this immature, shallow, prejudiced and girly comment: EWWWWW, YUCK! Wow. And let's not even get started on Mr. Jayne and the "bush baby."

I have a long rant about them. (Yes, I'm aware that I'm "getting started.") Simon was not overly harsh, nor do Jayne and Briggs represent all mental minority groups. Good grief, if someone can't do something, tell them. Don't think, "Oh, this poor person must have a problem. I'll let them slide!" They will be more humiliated in the long run if you allow this to happen, or they will at least find out your lie and be furious with you for sugar coating things.

Anyway, that to say that I'm not at all impressed with the Top 24. I haven't heard a one of them sounding truly talented.

yes numba1lostboy, and if we are talking about the last one chosen for the top 24 it was antonella, the better half of the best friends antonella and amanda...who was also pretty good but thannkfully kicked off cause she was such a snot!

Also if you remember, the tall lady also didn't make it to the 'final 24'. I am glad to see some of them get the chance, like Sundance Head, and Phil Stacey. There are couple of very talented people in this group that will make things very interesting this year.

Also if you watched the auditions shows and paid attention, you know that week seven will be "Abba" week, and they will be singing "Abba" songs. That will prove very interesting.

And for those who care, Chris Daughtry's new CD was just certified triple Platinum in sales last Friday by the RIAA. So far he has proven to be the most successful of last years "Idol" contestants. But we still have Mandisa's CD, and Elliot Yamin's CD to come out this spring.

I love Chris--his voice is amazing -swoons-

Anyways, now that the tryouts are over, I will start watching the show. I know a lot of people tune in for the tryouts just to see Simon humiliate people but they have gotten progressively worse over time. I mean, I will sit through the tryouts if they occasionally show some good people. But through the seasons, we've seen less of the good people and a lot more of the bad during the tryouts. So after the first tryout episde, I opted to skip the rest.

Tonight is the first night of voting off of four of this season's contestants. After watching both the guys and the girls this week, I think the girls are loaded with a lot of talent, moreso than the guys.

It is going to be really easy to see the guys get eliminated, but the girls look to be the most talented and ready to become this year's American Idol.

On the guys side, I think we can safely say that Sanjaya and Sundance will be kicked off this week, but for the girls it is going to be hard. Hope that all of you who watched the show voted. It is free to vote, and our votes are what determines who the next American Idol will be!!

I didn't get to watch the guys but the girls were very interesting.

Antonella Barba and Nicole Tranquillo need to go though. Actully, Nicole Tranquillo needs to go even more. I really hated her attitude and personality-and so did Simon, but no suprise there!

I've been watching like an insane maniac - I love this show.

If it were up to me, Antonella and Leslie would go for the girls; and Sanjaya and Sundance would be gone for the guys. Leslie annoys the crap out of me for some reason. Antonella let her nerves get the best of her last night.

I think the girls are much more talented this year. My favorites are LaKisha, Jordin, Gina (only because she lives near me), and Stephanie. Of the guys I like AJ, Blake, and Chris Sligh.

I can't wait to watch the rest of the season.

Well the first two girls to bite the dust in the results show this year are Antonella, and everyone's least favorite, Amy. Amy, for those who don't remember, is the girl that Simon said had the personality of a candle.

The two guys that everyone that were going to go were saved for another week. In one case, Sanjara, he was the fourth highest vote getter, for whatever use that is. And, in my eyes, the annoying Paul Sim, the barefoot crooner, was the first to get axe in the first segment of the show.

Sundance Head got a reprieve this week after blowing it totally with the wrong choice of song, and not impressing anyone, judge or audience member with his rendition of "Nights in White Satin". Let's hope he talks to his Daddy, who sold over 10 million records in the 60's including a chartopping song called "Treat Her Right", and of course Sundance's daddy is Roy Head. Sundance can seal his own fate next week with the wrong choice of song again. I hope that he doesn't make that same mistake.

Of the girls, Lakisha, who did the Jennifer Hudson song from "Dreamgirls", has basically been called the "winner", as long as she doesn't make a wrong choice in the coming weeks.

You are absolutely correct. I was wrong. I got caught up in those that I disliked the most, and I knew that I was going to get the names wrong. Thanks for keeping me in check.

I watched half an episode last night on ITV 2, when they were just into the finals (I think). I always try to watch it but it doesn't hold my interest as much as the UK version, probably because I didn't see it from the beginning.

I was amazed to see Cat Deeley on it though, wow, I used to watch her on TV when I was really small :D, good ol SMTV:LIVE (any Brits remember?)

I was sad that Paul left but VERY glad that Nicole got kicked off. Antonella should have been kicked off as well, oh well. We'll see how she does next week. Hopefully she won't butcher another one of my favorite songs.
