The number of nominees in a given category was determined by the number of nominations submitted for that category, so that each category had 3-6 finalists, with 5 being the preferable number (in the event that either 4 or 6 had to be chosen, 4 were chosen for lesser categories, and 6 were chosen for the major categories). In the event that either 2 or 8+ nominees had to be chosen, only 2 were selected. Results of either one or zero nominees were avoided wherever possible.

Thanks, but I can't take the credit for the nominees. That's all you (and the rest of the UDers who nominated). I must say I'm quite pleased with this year's nominees, though.

Awesome break-down, Luke! Whodda thought that Pirates would get so much support here?

Q: Who will be doing the presenting for the awards? If it's open like it was last year, I'd like to present Best Fat Guy. :P

Oh, and sending my votes in as we speak.

Cheers,

I'm rather exited about this year's awards, howver I still have my reservations. I'm going to predict that Pirates sweeps, even though it was not anywhere near the best film of last year. It was good, but not great, and it will steal most of the awards, just based of it's popularity.

Well, my only big complaint this year is that there are too many nominations for "Best Actress" and "Best Adapted Screenplay". But then again, that's an incredibly small nit-pick considering how much fun the awards ceremony is!

I haven't seen a couple and disagree with a few, but overall great choices this year! Almost all of my favorites are up there! :D

That's all I have to say. Sent my choices earlier today.

Well, this *is* a mostly-fannish forum and not some high-brow council of film industry personnel and critics. I mean...come on, we have Kate Bosworth nominated as best actress! :P

I don't care the level of the nominations, however Pirates of the Carribbean is getting nominated based off favoritism not quality.

Like I said, it is a fan-based forum. Many people have also said that there were quite a few faults with the movie, but it didn't keep them from nominating it as what they felt was the best movie of 2006, regardless of favoritism. And of course, this is a Disney-based board, so naturally there'd be favoritism towards some of the Disney movies.

Sent my nominations in. I think I've seen more of the nominees this year than I have in previous ones thanks to the new theater that opened five minutes away from my house back in April. I'll be eagerly waiting the sign-up thread for presenters. :D

Just because it is a fan based forum, dosn't mean the members don't have taste, which apparently not many on this forum do. The best movie by no way in hell that Pirates, X Men, or Superman Returns are anywhere near the best 15 films of the year. These films were nominated based on popularity, not because they were good. Besides Superman and X-Men were mediocre and stale, while Pirates meandered with some of the worst acting of the year. Naomie Harris was putrid in the film, and her acting was worse than a barbie doll's. Why was Pirates allowed for best drama and comedy. The film is a comedy and should have been banned in entering drama. Hmmm, I see the favoritism now. It befuddles me how Bill Nighy gets nominated for his poor performance in Pirates of the Caribbean, but gets udderly overshawdowed in his performance in Notes on a Scandal. Hugh Jackman gives a pathetic performance in X Men, and his performances in the Fountain and the Prestige are actually of quality. X Men by no way had good costumes, and the score of XMen and Superman were forgettable at most. The films with the best score should actually be good. Some of the best films, were, as I should have guessed, overshawdoed. Those would include Pan's Labyrinth and Babel. It is unfathomable. At least these awards are better than last year. But I can already predict which films are receiving nominations next year. Those would include Pirates of the Carribbean 3 (what a shock!), Ratatouille, and Harry Potter (another huge shocker!!!!).

Films are getting nominated because people found them "suspenseful" and "exiting", however the films that hold the best quality, plot, acting, characterization, direction, dialogue, and the thousands of other important aspects were utterly forgotten.

At least Kirsten Dunst got a nomination.

I'm quite surprised at how the majority of categories seem limited to only a few titles.

Anyway, my votes are in.

Come on, CastleintheSky, it's just a bit of fun. The sort of films you mention will never be in the running because most people simply haven't seen them.

Besides, everyone knows the best film of 2006 was Silent Hill. (It's flaws only made it all the more perfect. So there). :)
