National Treasure: 2-Disc Collector's Edition

I was just wondering if Disney is planning a 2 Disc over even a 3 Disc DVD set due to the fact that National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets comes out in December. I am wondering if anyone on these boards has heard any news? Thanks.

We haven't, but that would definitely make sense, since the single disc wasn't exactly overflowing with options and Bruckheimer seems to have a thing for extended editions. They could even include movie cash for the sequel, and there's the holiday season to bolster sales as well.

Welcome back to UD, by the way! :eye: Wonder if you may have set a record for longest period between posts.

Yah, it has been a while since I posted. :) Well hopefully they will announce a new DVD package soon.

Luke> Is that good old Mickey? Hopefully Disney will do a commentary of Pete's Dragon before he passes away.

I wouldn't mind another release, but they would need to include some serious upgrades to convince me to buy it. The initial DVD release was satisfactory enough for me. It would definitely need to have 2 discs and:
-a director's cut
-commentary(s)
-sneak peek/ticket to see NT2
-bloopers
-in-depth behind-the-scenes material
-all the previously-released bonus material (so I can sell my previous copy and don't have to keep it for bonus features)

If they release the DVD to coincide with the theatrical release of NT2, there's no reason they couldn't sell 2-packs once both films are out on DVDs.
But if they're going to release a new edition, I bet it'll come out around November.

Only 6 months until NT: BoS any news on 2 Disc of First?

There is only about 6 months until the sequel to National Treasure. I haven't seen any news about a 2 Disc or even a 3 Disc DVD set for National Treasure (2003). I have seen discussions about National Treasure: Book of Secrets, but not much about the first one since I asked about it a few months ago. Has anyone heard anything about a release in Late September or Early October?

no since it's still easy to find depending on the store.

If they're doing a re-release to tie in with the sequel, they'll probably wait until the week it comes out. In any event, we should expect to hear about it three months before it streets, so there's still about four months until we can declare a re-release will or won't be happening to coincide with NT2.

As reported on the front page...

Disney has scheduled a National Treasure: 2-Disc Collector's Edition for release on DVD (SRP: $29.99) on December 18th. The set will include all of the 2005 DVD's bonuses plus additional deleted scenes introduced by director Jon Turtletaub, a sneak peek of the closely-timed sequel Book of Secrets, and the featurettes "Ciphers, Codes, and Code-Breakers", "On the Set of American History", "To Steal a National Treasure", "Exploding Charlotte."

Gasp! Disney's actually returning to 2-Disc re-releases? All right, so this isn't the same as a 2-Disc re-release for a non-Platinum animated classic, and I know this is only to promote the sequel. Either way, I'll be picking this up. Many people accuse the film of being something you need to leave your brain at the door for, but I actually thought it was more creative and clever than most films of the sort. I've been holding out in case a re-release turns up in time for the sequel, and it seems my waiting paid off. Hopefully this will come with Movie Cash for Book of Secrets the way the Princess Diaries re-release had one for Royal Engagement.

Hopefully the trivia track will be available a a regular bonus feature instead of a complicated-to-get-to Easter Egg.

And no director or cast commentary? Boo! I would have loved if there were two: a serious one with Jon Turtletaub and Nicolas Cage, and a nice fun one with Justin Bartha and Diane Kruger.

Sweet. So glad I didn't pick this up first time. I can't wait to see Nicholas Cage's incredible ACTING!

When National Treasure first came out on DVD, Future Shop here in Canada offered a second bonus disc. It has the features "On the Set of American History" "The Exploding Charlotte" and "To Catch a Thief" so I don't think I need to double dip just to see some promotional stuff for Book of Secrets.

Typical. After I bought the 1 DISC with a handful of features, they release a 2 DISC edition right in time for the sequel's release.

I'll be double dipping on this one. I sure wish they'd see the light & release the Lilo & Stitch 2 disc SE. Also all Pixar films (& the Hayley Mills ones they botched the first time around). You listening Disney? There's money to be made if you do 'em right.

Most of the time I'd be mad but I got it for about $5 in US last Thanksgiving and I'm fine with that, since the featurettes don't sound TOO interesting.
