I was looking at candydog's thread and I couldn't help thinking about overrated characters. In my opion, Nemo, Marlin, and Dory are highly overrated (although I do enjoy Dory's character).

In my opinion Aurora is overused in merchandising, since her movie wasn't so successful at first, it's weird that she is so present. I don't know if "over-present in merch" is the same as "overrated" to you, but well, that's the way I see it!

I second that brownie, in my opinion Tinker Bell is the most overrated of all the Disney characters.

Hmm...I think every character is overrated somewhat...and no not including sidekicks and co-stars...For example, every character has their time to shine somewhat...depending if they have a new movie coming out. For instance Ariel right now is kind of overrated only because her movie was just released but before this I havent really seen her (outside the Princess line) around for that past 9 years since she was last seen in theaters. I saw Simba everywhere when TLK had its platinum debut...And well Pixar Movies tend to be overrated when they are first released but after a while they kind of die down and join everyone else whos not so overrated.
I think Tinkerbell being overrated is just because she's kind of a symbol for the Disney Company. Her and Jiminy Cricket are seen a lot, regardless if they are on merchandise or not. Like why her Character is used on the Disney DVD openings. Stuff like that.

Tinkerbell, for reasons already stated. She's not even that likeable a character in the original movie.
Timon & Pumbaa are used wáy too much in advertising, spin-offs and such. It's come to a point where I can bear seeing them in the original movie (where they're not even that obnoxious), but I can't really enjoy them anymore. Pity.

Basically any and all of the Princesses, Belle, Mulan, Ariel, Snow White, Jasmine, Aurora, Cinderella. I'm pretty sure thats all of them, but I have to say that I'm SICK AND TIRED of seeing Princess after Princess AFTER Princess movies (the sing-alongs), toys, books, posters and just about anything else for them. I like the characters don't get me wrong, but I'm just sick of seeing them more than the others, where's all of the Prince merchandise? If the Princess stuff is popular than maybe the Prince stuff would be too. I hate to say it about one of my fav. characters but Winnie-The-Pooh is in Second Place for most over-used Character aside from the Princesses. Following closely behind, if not tied with Pooh, is Mickey and Friends, but seeing Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and the rest all over is normal since they're the mascots of Disney I guess you could call them. So thats my top 3 most over-used/rated character groups.

1. Any Pixar character. Maybe it's just personal, but I simply hate them.
2.Any of "The Lion King" characters. Personal again, I can't stand animal movies.
3.101 Dalmatians. Same as Lion King.
4.Winnie the Pooh. Same as the 2 previous plus it's the most boring thing I've ever, ever, EVER seen! Bleah!
5.Mickey and Minnie. I'm just so sick of those goody-goodies. Why do they have to be SO sweet, SO clever, SO kind, SO perfect? Donald & Daisy for ever!
6. Belle. A provencial town is not for her high standards. Maybe if she wasn't so snobish and if she wasn't called Belle (Beauty), considering that she's not extremly beautiful- just normal, I could like her much more. It's just a personal opinion again. It just isn't right to see more of her and not Jasmine, let's say, among the other princesses.

Belle does get overused (and always in that ugly postion!) but I think she's one of the prettier princesses. Right above Cinderella, right below Ariel.

Oh yes, Ariel is definately my all-time favourite. But I don't really care about just "pretty" princesses. I like a heroine when she's, first and foremost, interesting- that is, when her actions, way of thinking, relations, universe can awake my imagination and make me wanna explore every little corner of her world. I don't see why just "pretty" could be enough for a costumer.

OVERRATED or OVERPROMOTED or OVERUSED?

you some of you guys seems to misunderstand the concept of what overrated means. Overrated in no way has anything to do with disliking a character. I simply means it been used or promoted more so and constantly over others and not really libing up to the hype.
As for me I have to say Winnie the Pooh frandise IS overrated. The fact that it even sometime gets considered along side with the major disney characters(Mickey, goofy etc) make it's even greater.
As for Tinkerbell, she became a icon for disney's "sparkily magic" so it was something that had been happening over years. Though one could argue why her and not say fairy godmother or hell even the genie.
Overrated Tinker Bell hogs Sparkly Stuff

Yes, because the fairy godmother actually was the first to use that "sparkly magic", when it was first called Disney dust, which is now incorrectly called pixie dust because
Peter Pan gave the dust a supposedly "official name" just because they said the name in the movie. Though, pixie dust could in fact be seperate from Disney dust.

Captain Jack Sparrow for the following reasons:
[a] If anyone even thinks this is close to Johnny Depp's best performance, then you're on drugs
...which brings me to...
It's blatantly based on Keith Richards, which in some respects actually validates Keith's life choices with drugs and the concequences he now has to lives with (if he's actually aware of any concequences)
[c] He's not funny. I'm sorry, but he's not. He's just annoying.

Yeah, maybe I should have said 3-D animation in general!

i agree with the overrated pixar films with the exception of toy story...also i am worried about the enchanted movie that hasnt even come out yet, but there is already too much hype out there about it

...it cant measure up to the originals which are TRUE disney movies...and pooh and friends is overrated, but the characters are soooooooo cute in design that no one cares about the boringness of the plots, and is mainly for for young kids anyway, so unless youre 5 or under it would be boring!
