Underrated characters

OK, I made this thread because I, like many disney fans, love several disney characters that really just aren't as popular as others like the princesses etc.

My favourite disney film is beauty and the beast, but my favourite characters of all time are from sleeping beauty, three good fairies who go go by the names of flora, fauna and merryweather. I LOVE them!!! But, they just don't get enough attention. There's very little merchandise available, other than a few figurines and the odd figure set.

So, tell me, are there any characters you love who just don't get the attention they deserve?

Also, a very quick question: I'm going to see disney on ice: princess classics in a couple of months :) can I expect to see them in the show? aurora is in it after all, and if cinderella's fairy godmother can skate along, they'd sure as hell better be there too!!

Ohhh! Don't be so mean to our little mermaid. Without her, many modern Disney classics would have never been made.
Anyway, back on topic, I really like the movie Fox and the Hound, but you don't see Tod or Copper very often. :(

Hi candydog,
To answer your quick question: :)

I just visited Disney On Ice: Princess Classics here in Germany today (and twice the days before).
So I´m happy to tell you that the three Fairies will skate on ice in the Sleeping Beauty part as well :)
And by the way: It is the best Disney On Ice-show EVER!
So you can really look forward to your visit :D

Megara: So underrated. And it's a real pitty because she's one of the most opinionated, gutsy, independent and sassy Disney heroines ever. Not to mention that with her looks and her "world" (Ancient Greek settings, gods, monsters etc.) she could have been merchandised very succesfully. She could even have her own episodes in the "Disney Princess Collection" VHS volumes. Please, don't tell me that she didn't made it because she wasn't a real princess! Mulan isn't a princess either, but she is a Disney Princess, according to the actual Disney Princess website. Megara is beautiful and has a strong character, we should be getting MUCH more of her!
Esmeralda: Same as above. Plus, she's got an animal friend, a goat named Djali. Many adventures of her life as a gypsy girl in the steets of Paris could be written or become animated series. Another strong, fiery beauty gets useless. Pitty.
Kida: First of all, she IS a princess. Secondly, what's more catchy than a princess of a legendary lost city searching for her past- that concept could have made great tv series, especially if it was set in the time before Milo arrived to Atlantis. Which means, if it was set in Atlantis and nowhere else. Nothing like the sequel. In my opinion, she's very beautiful too. It's just that some people are afraid of something new and extreme. And she has also a very strong character like the 2 ladies above.

That's a very good point. It may be strange, though, but the only character I don't think should be with the line, though, is Kida. It's not about her style or anything and I actually enjoy the movie, but it's just something about her.

Basically, any sidekicks - especially those that aren't automatically likable.

How do you upload your avatar here? My apologies, but everyone's a newbie at first!

I always considered Megara to be a princess since she married Hercules who is the son of the King and Queen of the gods so that would make him a prince and Megara a princess by marriage just like Belle and Cinderella.

Zeus isn't really the King of Gods, just their chief - according to actual mythology at least. But even in the movie, he's not wearing a crown or anything. But you could say that Meg is a princess because in Greek mythology she is the daughter of a King (I think she is princess of Thebes but I am probably wrong). Anyway, she is certainly as much as a princess - if not more - than Mulan! And one could argue that Esmeralda is the "gypsies' queen" or something like that.

I've always thought Merlin and Mim were very underrated characters. Jane Porter is as well. Also, it seems like all the Disney guys are underrated as far as merchandise is concerned.

Strange, every telling of the Greek myth's I've ever read has had Zeus as the King / Lord / Ruler of the Greek Gods. Chief? It's just quibbling over semantics isn't it? They are the most powerful beings around (with the possible exception of the Titans), he is the Chief - wouldn't that make him a King? He was the ruler of Olympus - Kingdom of the Gods. Sounds like a King to me.

I only recently saw The Sword in the Stone and I can understand why Merlin and Mim don't get recognized. I wish people would stop doing ditzy Merlins everywhere. Plus, I can't believe how pop cultuare the movie is, ecspeacilly (SP?) since Walt looked over it. Obviously, I don't like it. Then Jane Porter. She really dosen't have much coverage, does she? I think it could be because she is kinda like a "tight" Belle. And now we come to the guys. Aladdin, Hercules, Prince Phillip, and Eric would be a great Heroes collection. I really don't think Snow White's prince and Prince Charming would appeal to boys too much, though.

Even if Zeus wa merely a chief Powhattan was a chief and that's why Pocahontas was a Princess. Zeus has always been KIng of the gods in every myth I've ever ready and even if they don't call him a KIng in the film it is certainly implied. I see no problem with my logic.

I've never fallen for the arguments in favor of Megara as a princess, especially considering the fact the Hercules gives up any god status he might ever have possessed (remember, despite his strength he was still essentially mortal) in order to remain on earth with her.

But you can't change who your parents are. Even if a royal child refuses to take the throne they are still considered to be a prince or princess. Hercules is a prince if he's mortal or a god.

Beaides, the only reason we have the ending we got was so the HErcules sequel could be made. In the original ending I saw in a test screening Hercules not only remained a god but Meg could go with him because now that her thread had been cut she was immortal too. The ending of the film has always bugged me because of this glaring plot hole I now see. And all because a sequel HAD to be made and never was.

It is a fact that Meg is a princess. The only reason we don't see her used is because the film she comes from "bombed".

Mulan and Esmeralda are in no way princesses. If Esmeralda were Clopin's daughter I"d see her inclusion as being okay. Mulan has no rotal ties. Shang is not a royal. Mulan is only there because her film is considered moderately successful. I suspect KIda isn't included because she isn't a "girly" princess and Atlantis is considered a failure. Not saying that's right, I"m just saying it is. The Princess of the Black Cauldron isn't included either.

Rafiki. There's some coverage, but not nearly enough.
