I keep hearing great things about this movie, suppose to be a weird horror fantasy drama from Mexico/Spain and the maker of "Hellboy"! is it kind of like Tim Burton, "Dark Crystal", Jim Henson's own "Labyrinth", "Army of Darkness", the Silent Hill games, "Willow", "The Princess Bride" and "Company of Wolves"? how dark is it?

It is really dark! It is not a picture that children should see at all. It has beatings, visible open wounds, monsters made out of pieces of flesh ect.

It is pretty good and freaky, but it is def. not a Disney ending..
Go see it, it is better then the rest of what "movieworld" has thrown in our faces this year.

Comparing this film to Tim Burton, Willow or to the Princess Bride would be seriously off. The tone and story are extremely dark and bleak and contain virtually no humour whatsoever. And, as Merman has said, there are some truly brutal moments throughout. But, if you can handle those (or if you're capable of averting your eyes from the screen during those scenes), then I'd definitely recommend you see it.

Something to keep in mind is that, deceptive advertising aside, this is more of a grim, gritty civil war drama than a dark fantasy film. The fantasy sequences are impressive, but they actually make up a surprisingly small amount of the overall film.

This movie is rated "R", so why would all these questions come up. It is a very adult film, with adult themes, lots of graphic violence, and things that someone under 17 should not be exposed to.

I thought it was an amazingly entertaining movie. I didn't like the previews for the movie, but my son-in-law took me to see it as the last movie I am going to see before my surgery. It was definitely a step above some of the 'so-called' adult oriented animation out there in the past years.

To the adults in our forum, I would highly recommend it. Just remember that is "R" rated for a very good reason.

It ain't a kiddie film that's for sure. It's extremely dark and it was much gorier than I thought it was going to be. I likened it to a REALLY dark Cinderella minus the stepsisters and the stepmother.

AHH!! I was actually gonna make a topic about this but you beat me to it! I saw it two nights ago and I loved it!! I thought I wasnt gonna like it cause I dont like watching things in spanish, even though Im hispanic, but that didnt bother me at all. I was so into the story that the language didnt make a difference to me. Of course I cant say the same for someone who doesnt speak spanish and has to read the subtitles throughout the whole movie, but I recommend you give this movie a chance, it was really good.

I went to see this film on New years day and it is fantastic. It's very violent. It is unlike any other film I've seen in a long time. You should defiantely go watch it. It's in Spanish though with subtitles. I think anybody who knows about good movies should watch it.

Nothing short of spellbinding. I was absolutely enthralled by the end, and it has succeded in bumping Children of Men from the #1 spot on my Top Ten.

Dark, brutal and exceptionally beautiful all at the same time.

As the rating and del Toro's insistance that this is an "adult fairy tale" implies, this one is certainly not for children. It is about a child, but anybody who takes their kids to see this needs to seriously reconsider parenting as a viable option.

Easily one of the best films of last year.

I saw Pan's Labyrinth and I loved it! It was very dark and some of the scenes were violent. But as a story it was beautiful! It was like a dark fairy tale, but I loved how it ended. It was sad and leaving you a little melancholic but after all it was amazing.
I don't recommended the little ones watching it cause it can get kind of creepy and "scary"...plus a lot of the thematics mte be a little to difficult to understand.

The thing I really liked about it was that it was reminiscent to other fairy tales where it leaves you with a bitter sweet feeling. Like the old kinds But Anyways I give this movie like an A- so yeah....go watch it...
