I think all film fans should take a part in this - helping to secure the release of the ORIGINAL versions of the Star Wars Trilogy. There've been 30,000 signatures on this petition so far, and any more who are willing to sign would be welcome.

I've already signed and heartily agree with the sentiment!

Of course, I feel the same way about the ORIGINAL cut of The Lion King. Let's so what happens there.

Already signed both, and very much agree with that.
I'm so sick of them messing with the original theatrical version.
Unlike Disney

Ok, so there was Fantasia.
And Make Mine Music.
And Saludos Amigos.

But they don't count right?

If Lucas decides to never releas the original trilogy again, it won't be the end of the world as far as DVD goes. You can easily get a nice set of Taiwan silver boots that were captured from the LaserDiscs that don't have all of the fancy CGI in them on eBay. Alternatively, I have the copies of this set (the original trilogy) on DVD-R. e-mail me, and for a small fee to cover my costs and time, I can send them to you.

I already signed the petition too, of course! I have a set of bootlegs on DVD, the quality of mine is so-so. There are lil glitches and pauses where the LD was turned over. I still have the LD Box Set, with the extras.

What they should do is translate THAT to DVD now, with the same extras. In the marketing for it, it could be stressed that they are the original versions, and that one day the big hoopty-doo Deluxe Editions will be coming out.

IMO, It doesn't matter if you love or hate the S.E. - the original editions are part of film history, a turning point in cinema, and should be preserved in a quality format such as DVD. We all know the S.E.s are coming to DVD without a chance, but I think all film fans should really up the pressure on Lucas to deliver the originals.

Do you mean "without a choice"? If not, I'm not sure what you mean here.

It is my understanding that when the DVDs eventually are released that we will get the SUPER S.E.s, since George Lucas want to tinker with them further.

Sorry, that sounded weird. I meant, there is no "chance" that they won't come out - there is definately going to be an S.E. version release on DVD (Lucas has confirmed it).

Actulally, the SEs will not reach DVD in their current form. Lucas is tampering with them AGAIN (apparently once is never enough for him), so we'll get his uber-upgraded Ultimate Editions on DVD and probably not the Special Editions as we know them from 1997.

LOL, man I must have a hard time making myself clear.

I was aware of this info. I just meant that we are definately getting an S.E. release on DVD.

Me too, MMB! I hope we get all the deleted scenes too. The SW Magazine had an article on the "Lost Cut" of the original SW. That would be so amazingly cool to have that... a version that is 40% different than the version that was released. Ahhhhhh.....

I heard George was planning an "XTreme Super-duper-hooper-nooper-pooper-scooper Supercalafagalisticexpialadocious Humpy-dumpty-sat-on-a-wall Mega Vega Wega Tega Ortege End-all-be-all Center-of-the-Universe Mammoth-plex Edition". 28 discs per movie, filled with exciting features like "Alternate camera angles depicting the director of the Leonard Maltin interview segment with George Lucas" and "Six-hour documentary depicting the ILM animators sleeping in bed".
