Is anyone here a child of the 1980s? If so, does (or did) anyone live in the Bay Area? If so, did anyone ever see the bumpers on KOFY 20 before it became part of the WB chain? The bumpers were shown every half hour before shows that broadcast on KOFY were shown. The bumpers were of pets, usually dogs, sitting in a simple living room. His/her name was displayed on the screen as was where he/she came from. The pet in question would appear in close up, then shown sitting in a chair next to a TV set tuned to KOFY 20. As a jingle played, the pet would turn on cue to face the set. What amused viewers most and earned the pets a place in our popular culture was the droll manner in which they usually turned to face the direction of the TV set while their unseen and unheard masters signaled off camera. Some of the pets were perkier than others but none was without charm. The announcer was a man named James Gabbert.

The pets were there in the 1980s and into the 90s before they retired in 1998. The jingle went: "Welcome to your place, K-O-F-Y, TV Twen-tee..." followed by a rather spooky whisper saying "stereo"and finally Gabbert saying "KOFY, K-O-F-Y, stereo TV20, San Francisco." My question is, is anyone familiar with these bumpers? And did they have similar bumpers where you lived?

The reason why I'm asking this is because I used to live in San Jose before moving to Sacramento ten years ago, and being born in the mid-80s, I think I remember that station very well. I'm just wondering if anyone else had seen these bumpers, too, or if they saw anything similar to them.

I remember these very well, having lived in the Bay Area up until the year 2000, when I moved to Atlanta. I used to watch channel 20 quite a bit since for some reason in the area of east San Jose that I lived in, I had trouble picking up the major stations like 2,4 and 5 but could easily pick up the UHF channels like 20 and 44. Needless to say, my family eventually broke down and started subscribing to cable so we could receive the major channels.

Did you ever see the bumpers I mentioned? I used to think they were quite scary, especially the 80s versions. Did you think that?
