I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread to discuss the upcoming "Friendship Edition" of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh arriving on DVD in June. Your ideas and thoughts of the movie/dvd are appreciated.

I'm just hoping that everything from the other release is carried over.

I'm not too big on the "Friendship Edition" name either, I wish Disney would stop with all of these stupid names.

Yea that name just makes me want to throw up.... but I didnt get the 25th anniversary edition so I will be picking this up...to bad I have to have the less perfessional stupid titled one but oh well...im practicaly over disney the way they have treated me lately anyway.

I missed out on the 25th AE so I may pick this one up depending on the price.

I would only get it if possibly the cover art is really sharp. I disliked the 25th Anniversary cover art, but the special features were decent, and it didn't have a ridiculous name.

I would carry all the 25th's bonus features and add an in depth commentary to the film along with A Day For Eeyore recieve a commentary. Also I'd change the title to something much more appealing, Many Adventures Of Winnie the Pooh: 30th aniversary Platinum Edition.

Well, it couldn't be called the 30th Anniversary "Platinum" Edition, because it isn't part of the Platinum Edition line. It could, however, just be called the 30th Anniversary Edition.

At Christmas time I looking all over the place (and read Loomis' primer on Winnie the Pooh) for a DVD version of the original 3 movies only to find out that it was OOP.... I am so glad to hear they will re-release the original 3 movies and I will definitely buy this when it comes out.

Dear God...Friendship edition? I couldnt help but laugh at the name...I showed my friend and he started laughing to...Wow...Edition names have sunk to a new low...lol...I guess its not too bad since the movie is about friends an stuff...but it sounds so...pre-school...?

Anyways...Im really happy about the news! Mainly because I didnt really want to go looking online for Winnie the Pooh 25th Anniversary because its kind of a hassle to find one. Plus The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was a favorite when I was a baby(or so my mom says...) And I havent seen it since, so it will be nice re-watching it since i dont remember much...

So far for 2007 we have Peter Pan: Platinum Edition, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Friendship Edition and The Jungle Book: Platinum Edition.... I wonder what other titles will be re-release.

I agree that disney has come up with the most childish names in their last releases as well as cutting to only a one disc instead of 2 disc, I assume the naming is because of advertisment is aimed at children and family...

I guess we can't complain at least they are releasing their films. As for me ill probably get this version since I don't have the 25th anniversary, just hope has decent features not only childish jibberish.

Yes, I seem to recall that one of the points Loomis made in his analysis of the Disney offerings of WTP is that Disney ONLY recognizes this as being appealing to children - all the marketing and repackaging of Pooh DVDs is geared towards very small children. I think they are missing a huge market segment of adults who like WTP. In So. Calif. I see all these adult women in their 30s and 40s running around in WTP T-shirts or have "Eyeore" or Tigger decals on their cars. (I have to assume that Disney licensed the adult WTP T-shirts, but why then do they not market WTP DVDs with the idea that some watchers would be adults) So yes, I agree I hope there is some bonus features geared towards adults. After all, little children are being steered to watch this stuff by their parents.

Wow, good memory. I don't even remember writing it Whoever did, and I'd like to think it was me, it is a very valid point. I'm sitting across from an older staff member now who has Eyeore sitting on her desk, and will buy anything Eyeore related.

The problem with Pooh is that Disney doesn't quite know what to do with him beyond market the hell out of him. This marketing has resulted in a multi-billion dollar industry, so I daresay adults are in on it too, but the DVD marketing wouldn't lead you to believe that this is for anyone other than kids. The older TV episodes have been chopped up and presented in bite-sized kiddie fodder, and all of the newer series have been aimed directly at pre-schoolers. When you consider that the original Christopher Robin stories were about the transition between childhood and putting childish things away, Disney has done nothing since the beautiful Pooh's Grand Adventure that has played on these same themes. As much as I love them, most of the short films and episodes have been about the value of sharing, or some crap like that (:P), and are clearly aimed at the "building the moral compass of the young 'uns" crowd.

As for the DVD, it does sound disappointing. My current copy - containing the "A Day for Eeyore" short and the 25 minute featurette - will suit me just fine. Unless there is something extra-special about the new edition, I will give it a miss methinks.

This just might be the first re-release on DVD that I won't pick up. I own the 25th anniversary edition and I am pretty satisfied with it in all respects. It sounds like this version will come with primarily games for bonus features and that everything else will just be recycled. So basically, unless it is matted in widescreen like "Robin Hood" was, I won't be buying.

Doesn't sound like it's getting the best treatment. I hate the name, but I'll reserve judgement on the disc itself until more infromation becomes available. If the disc is not that great, I may just wait until I get lucky enough to find a used copy of the 25 anniversary edition at a pawn shop. It's not one of my must have titles anyway, so waiting to find it wont be a problem.

Add this dvd to my Disney collection. I know the name is pretty bad, hopefully they change it to 30th Anniversary Edition. But I can't complain cause I was wating for this one to get announced.

I hate the "Friendship Edition" title and I own the 25thAE which I am very pleased with so I will happily PASS on this rerelease.

I wouldn't be surprised if it just has the bonus features listed above.

I agree with everyone's comments that so far this doesn't sound convincing for adult audiences. But also said previously, Disney company does not acknowledge adult audiences. It is rather obvious that disney had the intentions of re-releasing the many adventures of winnie the pooh for its 30th anniversary but i assume that it is in a meeting or there's people in the company (or ppl who are in charge of advertisment and marketing) who suggested the childish label. But like said, one should reserve our judgment, who know maybe it would be worth the buy..
just hope they dont keep giving future non platinum releases like Hunchback and hercules the same treatment.

Well, I'm considering a new copy of the 25th Anniversary Edition of TMAoWtP, found on eBay, and was wondering, knowing what other re-releases of Disney movies have been like, would it be smarter to buy the 25th Anniversary Edition, or wait for the new "Friendship Edition"? I think it would be smarter because it comes with another movie.
