Why no Monsters Inc. Slip Cover???

Out of all my Disney/Pixar dvd's, Monsters Inc. is the only one that stands out not having a Slip-Cover???

Why???

A Bug's Life had one and it was released before Monsters Inc.

I really wish it had one!!!

Maybe someone on here could make me one???

Anyone? Anyone?

Monsters Inc was made before slipcovers were popular.

Actually, it didn't. There were many releases of A Bug's Life, most of them not having slipcovers. The only one containing a slipcover was the re-issue of the Collector's Edition. Monster's, INC. was released on DVD on September 17, 2002, slipcoverless. The A Bug's Life DVD, that actually had a slipcover, was released May 27, 2003, 8 months later than Monster's, INC.. So, your information is correct. And, I believe, all of the PIXAR films, before the re-issue of A Bug's Life, did not have a slipcover. So, when the PIXAR films were then released, and re-released for some (TS and TS2), they had slipcovers. And because Monster's, INC. was released before A Bug's Life, and it being a great DVD set, there was no reason to re-release it. That is probably why Monster's, INC. doesn't have a slipcover, because it was released before the other PIXAR films containing slipcovers.

Because it was released when slipcovers were only for special DVDs, instead of...well, every single freaking DVD ever. like it is now.

As you would know if you checked my slipcover list thread, Beauty and the Beast on October 8, 2002 was the first Disney release with a slipcover. Monsters, Inc. predated it by roughly a month (September 17, 2002.)

Regardless when it was released versus when slipcovers remain poopular, it's still a fact that Monsters, Inc. is one of the strongest DVDs Pixar has made and I hope future consumers keep the merits of the movie and DVD presentaion in mind, NOT the tree-killing DVD condom.

Do you think we will eventually get a new edition of Monsters Inc.? Granted the dvd released is awesome, I would like a new edition which includes a slipcover.

Enoough with the slipcovers already. You can't get one because there wasn't one. Don't you understand?

And what good are slipcovers anyway. They contain the same information as the DVD jacket, so why bother. I generally just tear my off, because most of the time they won't just slide off, and throw them away. They are all but useless anyway. They don't make the DVD worth more money, or add anything but something else to fight through to get to the DVD case.

Escapay is correct.......a slipcover is nothing more than a DVD condom.

The reason it hasn't gotten a slipcover yet: Because Disney didn't want to ruin probably Pixar's best film with a DVD condom made by a tree.

I don't believe that's really correct. If you look at eBay (or even the UD Trade Forum), you will see that many OOP Disney DVD's (specifically Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast) going for more money (or the seller asks for more money) than the copies without slipcovers. Yes, as far as actual value, the piece of printed cardboard that goes around a DVD case IS worthless. BUT, if it is intact and in good condition, you will find that more people are willing to buy the copy WITH a slipcover, and even pay MORE money for it than a copy without. It's all about completion. And not to mention, it's just another one of Disney's tricks to make their DVD's worth more money, and to get people to buy them as soon as they can before (God forbid) the slipcovers dissappear.

I don't understand why some people need to be so outspoken about slipcovers...if some of us like them then what is the big deal. I personally love the slipcovers and yes they do sell for more on ebay if it comes with a slipcover.

Again with the eBay being used as a price guide. eBay is not the authority for how much any collectible sells for. You need to go to collector's conventions and find out what they get. I can tell you that from the four collector's conventions I went to last year, Beauty and the Beast with or without a slip cover was going for the same price. And sealed copies sell for less than copies that are opened because a true collector will not buy anything that he can't make sure that what is advertised outside is on the inside.

eBay is not the guide for prices. That is a place for stupid people to spend their hard-earned money for things because they are too lazy to go out and shop for it. Almost every major city in the US and Puerto Rico has a collector's convention at least twice a year. Go to one and see how much things are selling for, not how much lazy people are paying for things because they don't want to get off their lazy arse and get out of the house - or read a newspaper to see where the next one is.

Best way to find out where the next Collector's Convention is being held near you is to go to your local book store (Barnes and Noble, Waldenbooks, or Border's or something like that) and find a copy of Goldmine Magazine. This is the 'authority' for what is collectible and what is not. Also you will find a listing of conventions around the country. These are really fun to go to, and very educational.

Please don't use eBay as a guide for how much something is worth.

Doesn't the cost of manufacturing a slipcover add value to the DVD as opposed to a slipcoverless DVD. Some money must've been spent to make it. So one with a slipcover cost more to manufacture than one without it so obviously, from an economic viewpoint, the value must go up for the slip cover DVDs. (I'm not talking from a collector's viewpoint)

I like slipcovers. They're pretty!

Also, how do DVDs mate if they need condoms? I think the new term should be DVD jacket or DVD sock or DVD sweater vest or DVD parka. Hmmmm...I wonder if slipcovers help keep DVDs warm...

Kram...Kram...dear, sweet, single-digit IQ Kram...

It's metaphoric, not literal.

What does a condom do? It covers, and "protects", but there's still the chance that it's unreliable.

What do slipcovers do? It covers, and "protects", but there's still the chance that it's unreliable.

Hence, slipcover = DVD condom.

Well, I believe I have never taken part in a Slipcover discussion...but I have to admit that I like them.

Just look at the Slipcover of the Region 1 Little Mermaid Platinum Edition. I immediately noticed that the slipcover looked gorgeous, whereas the print quality of the DVD cover was actually subpar. It was dark and almost grainy and an insult to the cover art depicted on the slipcover (yes it was). So Escapay, in this case, the tree died for a good cause. :P

Oh!

And Escapay...stop making fun of your younger brother.

Um... Do I sound like a parent?
