Glimpse of Animation from Disney's Enchanted!

Hello UDers!
I just got done watching Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century on the Disney Channel tonight and there was time left over for really long commercials so they played a long preview of new Disney movies coming to theaters this year of 2007. Among the expected previews like Ratatouille, the ever-changing hosts of the Movie Surfers also included some footage and behind the scenes look at Bridge to Terebethia, The Game Plan (with the Rock), and Enchanted!
After the asian girl with weird hair gave a short plot summary, they cut to
ANIMATION FROM THE MOVIE! It has all the glorious splendor of the classic Disney animated fairy tale features, and I don't mean the rich golden tones from Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. In my opinion, it looks as if the animators decided to bring back the color styles of Snow White and Cinderella like how they brought back the watercolor backgrounds for Lilo and Stitch. The animation itself is very good and beautiful! We can expect great things to come from whatever animation studio they hired from.
It's best to see the preview on television with its proper aspect ratio and video quality, but if you don't have the Disney Channel or if you can't sit through all day waiting for the preview, go to:
http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/moviesurfers/
It's the video on the right when you're at the homepage. The Enchanted segment begins at about 4:10 (4 min, 10 seconds). The quality of the video is terrible (I even clicked high quality and it was still an ity bitty video screen) and makes it harder to judge the quality of the animation.
ETA: Okay, I just watched it again, and unless there's a glitch in the labeling, it is better to click on LOW quality (at least for Windows Media Player). The video is smaller, but it is much clearer than picking HIGH Quality.
Also the clip is really short, so make sure not to blink! lol, but it's still a nice sight to see! There's also a funny clip featuring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey and some interview footage. Hopefully someone with TiVo or something will post a better quality video on YouTube soon!
This makes me even more excited for the film and the other Disney movies coming up this year! I can't wait! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woot! This is without a doubt my most anticipated movie all year, and as much as I hate the movie surfers crap, the footage in there is really great. The queen (I'm assuming it's the queen) does look an awful lot like Snow White's wicked queen in disguise though, so I hope they do make the two of them a bit more...seperately defined. Other than that - wow. Can't wait for more.

Perhaps it's an homage or a tongue-in-cheek nod to the reused character designs in
Robin Hood.

About time we finally got something official.
This sneak-peak was really great, at least a bit of information and not just "fluffy" stuff like on the DVDs was included. The "Enchanted" part was very short, but still, better than nothing.
Sadly, and as much as I liked the stills someone posted in the Enchanted thread, the actual animation now kinda disappointed me. The princess looks, hmm, how to put it, dumb and the Evil Queen looks just like Snow White's. Although, I guess this is intended.
But the colors style, etc. looked a bit (ad please don't stone me

) sequel-like. especially when the princess falls into the well she didn't look too great in my opinion. She's just average pretty and doesn't seem too intelligent (I'm a fan of the independent 90's princesses).
But still it looked ok, and it's 2D!!! WHHOOOO!!
I am so looking forward to the movie and Amy looks amazing. I love that green-ish dress and the big white princess dress (it reminds me of Ariel's wedding dress) Patrick Dempsey is (I hope) going to be as hot as ever and it seems that finally a more than great movie will hit theaters next Novemeber.
Thanks Kram for posting this!

Agreed and agreed! I liked the way the film was looking before in the concept sketches and the few stills in the other thread. But now, this animation
does look like it's from a direct-to-video sequel! It also doesn't exactly scream "Disney". It's looks more like something from Don Bluth. And it
is done by James Baxter, isn't it?
In the French forum Disney Central Plaza, they said the art in the stills and sketches had looked "art nouveau". If that meant the curving, wavy, curling look the sketches had, it seems to have been lost in this preview of animation. Personally, I find the queen in disguise to look a little blocky. The only thing I really like about the animation is the backgrounds and the imaginative well. But even the disc of blue that Giselle falls into looks unoriginal and doesn't fit in with the fairy-tale setting.
By the way,
Dottie, I thought I saw somewhere that you liked Cinderella (it was like 5 in your top five Disney films), and she's always been considered the most active/independent of the older princesses.

That's exactly what I thought. The whole thing just has a Don bluth-feel to it, animation-wise. I'm really quite disappointed by this preview, I was just starting to get my hopes up...

I really love the look of the film. It's obviously supposed to be a play on the Disney fairy tales. The princess has the naive, idiot look that people associate with many of the doe-eyed princesses, and the witch is obviously a play on the Old Peddler Woman. I think that gives it more impact when she ends up in the real world and sees that life isn't so black and white.
The look of the film reminds me of
Titan AE for some reason.

the dress looks silvery as cinderella should be..right disney duster?

im yet to view the moving clip.but judging by the first still the whole posture of the witch does screams don bluth.

I really adored the sketches from the French forum, and as you said now it looks a bit like a don Bluth movie. (Those are not bad, I love some of them, but the animation was never as great as Disney's except for the mice and rats in NIMH)
To me the animation doesn't seem to be "fluent enough". The lines are kinda harsh (they're not fat, but somehow edgy) and the colors (except for the really nice backgrounds) are way too "cartoony" (is that making any sense what I'm saying?). And the princess' hair could be a bit redder, though not too much. It looks a bit "dirty" or washed out.
I do like Cinderella. I'd say she is my favorite of the older princesses.
Her character is not quite as "passive" as for example Snow White. And her ballgown is to die for

W
But the 90's princesses will always be ahead of her. I mean, what does Cindy really do? She gets help all the time (mice, fairy godmother...)
Still, it's one of my favorite Disneys, and I stil feel like 5 years old every time I watch it. Good ol' times. I love it.
I did rate SB higher though, I think, because I like the songs better

I agree with the statement that the characters look like a Don Bluth or Richard Rich film. You could almost hear Giselle singing "Far Longer than Forever"

Although only a ten second glimpse, I have to say that I like the look of the film. Like Disney's Divinity has said, the look of the witch being similar to the one in Snow White is probably done as an homage. That said, if I had to find fault in any of the animation that I've seen, it would be her, as she just looks a bit blocky, as others have stated, and really looks odd against such a detailed background.
Needless to say, I am still excited about Enchanted regardless of an odd looking witch. Let's hope we'll see a trailer of sorts with Meet the Robinsons...

I assume that, much like the queen from
Snow White, this is only a diguise the villain has temporarily donned, as opposed to being the look we can expect throughout the entire film? Sorry, I'm still a bit hazy on the plot details for
Enchanted, but I am really looking forward to seeing Susan Sarandon in the role.
