Private message privs

So...do you get private message privs when you reach a certain post count like the avatar? Or perhaps the powers that be grant you PM privs if you are a regular contributing member? Not that I would use it a lot but it is kind of a practical function when communication, not necessary for the whole board to read, needs to be done with a member. I had one member PM me and I could not respond to him. Thankfully I had my email listed and he figured out how to contact me but it would have been much easier if I could have just replied.

ktrek - the general rule is that private messages waste a lot of bandwith which Luke has to pay for and should be used as a last ditch communication method only. Try using the email, ICQ or AIM in the member profiles.

Well...perhaps the administration should consider offering PM privs as an incentive to donate. On my board we pay for removal of Google ads for any member who donates $5.00 or who reaches 500 posts. We have had a nunber of members help us out this way. The same type of incentive by offering privs could also work for UD.

It's Luke's board born and bred. He can run it how he chooses to and he has requested we only use PMs as a last ditch emergency method of communication.
