Treasures Wave 3 moved back?!

So, this is what's on the UD main page today -
The big bad news today is that Disney is apparently moving Wave 3 of the Walt Disney Treasures, scheduled for release in just 3 1/2 weeks, all the way back to May 2004. This move is technically unconfirmed, highly unusual, and without a specified reason. Huge bummer, it would seem.
- um, what? Luke, where'd you get this info? Because this doesn't seem possible to me. How could they change the release date so late in the game? O_o
I mean, how're they gonna deal with all the thousands of preorders they already have? Tons of people are expecting to have these by Christmas... what will they do about the huge, inevitable backlash they'll get from collectors and average joes alike? This just doesn't make sense to me.
Unless they have some kind of semi-valid reason for delaying the release, like they need more time to print all the tins (which, with this year's weird print numbers, seem like a last-minute decision as well), then I'm not a happy camper. Granted, if this IS true, then I'll be able to save some $100+ this Christmas, but still...

Wave 3 of Treasures Delayed to May 2004

Probably best to start a new thread rather than using old ones.
If you missed it, check out front page right now.
Anyone have any thoughts on the delay? With the release just under a month away, they'd all have to be pressed. So are they just trying to avoid competing with the Alien boxset, I wonder. Not exactly the same market competition, but I don't know what else to think. Other possibilites that have been suggested: to print more, change content, or fix glitches.
The delay sucks very much - maybe Disney will stick with the 12/2 release date.

Okay, we started these simultaneously - which gives me hope that forumgoers DO read the front page. (Thanks, Paka!)
It does some pretty inconceivable, but it's from the best source I've got and I expect it to trickle out to other sites over the weekend, as it came down from management just today.
Pretty bummed that the money from the Amazon pre-orders looks like it won't be coming for the 4th quarter - I was really hoping to get a boost there.
Looks like there's no Christmas contest.

Hehe - looks like you and I had started the same thread within seconds of each other, Luke!
And you kept mine around, instead! You're so sweet!
Yup, I actually do check out the front page a lot. You're good about posting cool news, so it's worth it.

Well, I'm really digging the new merge technology and you must have beaten me by seconds, so I merged mine into yours, rather than vice-versa.
cat, I posted my four ideas as to why it could be moving. Pretty much all the copies were accounted for from retailers, I'm told...so they could just be seeking to increase production. But a move all the way to May 2004 might suggest content changes. Or perhaps they're just trying to stay away from the huge Christmas competition, like Alien and their very own Pirates release. I don't know if we'll ever know unless an insider shares info. Maybe Jim Hill will get one of his super cool sources to talk.

What the heck...
I will really hate Disney if they do this! I was planning to get them as my birthday and Christmas gifts.....

Avoiding Christmas competition doesn't make sense. On December 3, 2002, Disney unleashed not only the second wave of Treasures tins but also LILO & STITCH, and no moving back those tins. Or, moving it because of Alien & Pirates doesn't make sense, at least.
Maybe they want to avoid a collision with the Loony Tunes Golden Collection? With the high price on that set, and the high but justified prices on the Treasures due to the tins, I'm not sure all collectors would be willing to shell out that much all at once, and what would they choose? Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck or Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck? Hard to tell. Just a thought.

And I was planning on buying them as Xmas presents....for me!
I really hope that isn't the case. I don't want to speculate as to why....when will we know for sure?
But yeah - I guess that saves me a bit of cash around December when I'll need it the most. Even so, I was really looking forward to it.
Better late than never though, eh?

Yeah, chest bursting alien, or cute duck cartoons? I know I'm always torn when deciding between the two.

Disney has done a lot of stupid things, I can't see them being that stupid.
How reliable is this info? Missing the Christmas season would be a *huge* mistake.

Clearly not, but how many people other than us oddballs are willing to spend nearly $200 on ONE day of DVD releases. The Alien boxset is a huge collector's item, too, and with the average customer buying something like 7 DVDs a year...well, it's something to consider.
The info is as reliable as any info I get. Or more reliable than any, rather. Same place that landed me the early scoop on Alice.

I'm actually kinda glad cause I've already exceeded my DVD budget this year. . .
but i really think they should release Mickey Mouse in Living Color II in December because "mickey christmas carol" is on it.
Postponing the DVDs screws up their entire Treasures release cycle. . . so they'll have four next May and then maybe 3 more that same year in December? Or are they switching to a May date for all future treasures? It seems inconceivable for them to expect Disney fans to purchase SEVEN treasures in one year.

how long has the release dates for all of these movies been common knowledge? surely they would've thought this issue through, am i wrong?
perhaps it is a demand issue. this time i preordered the treasures so i didn't have to run all over the place trying to find them all before they were gone. i did it back in august, the earliest i've preordered anything. i didn't even KNOW about the previous treasures until February or so of this year!! maybe now the word has really gotten out?

uh. . i just checked on amazon.com and the price for each treasure has gone up from $23 (a few weeks ago) to $28!
why did they up the price like that?

Simba's Pride and Mary Poppins aren't due until August-ish. But Pocahontas and L & S Masterpiece Editions are due in May, as are the three Love Bug sequels.
WHY WHY WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS?

I preordered three of the tins since Semptember! I preordered them months in advance! What is Disney thinking? They are going to tick off a lot of people (including me) to push it back till May. I could see January but May? COME ON!
The Christmas season is the best season for them to sell these tins! It makes no sense. I already ordered these tins from Amazon and I sent them a money order! I'm so angry! Why wait till 3 weeks until release date to push it back 6 months. Disney is going to get a lot of complaints from this.
