I'm going to walt disney world this december for a week during christmas... Seeing how the Walt Disney Treasures are released a little before that time, do people here know where in Disney World I can buy them?

Almost every merchandise location in WDW sells DVDs, though the selection is pretty small at most of them. Your best bets will be the Main Street Emporium, Writer's Stop at MGM, or World of Disney at Downtown Disney. The latter will almost certainly have them.

If for some reason none of these have them in, there are regular retail places in Orlando and the surrounding area not far from WDW. You can ask a CM at your hotel for directions.

Alan,

I am happy for you going to the Wonderful World of Disney. I wouldn't really recommend buying DVDs from the World because they tend to be more expensive there (although they have Cars on sale for $19.99 right now which isn't too bad). I don't have a precise answer for you but I see DVDs in many of the stores. If you walk into a store that looks like a "Disney Store" (meaning a store willed with "Disney Store" type merchandise) there are usually DVDs. If you just ask a store employee in any of those stores I am sure they can help you. (Many of the stores are so huge you are better off asking anyway because you can waste a lot of time searching in such a huge store.)

I am glancing at my Downtown Disney map and I believe it is the store called "World of Disney" (creative name, huh?) that has a fairly large Disney DVD section.

Again, I have always been discouraged from buying DVDs at Disney World because it costs a lot more money. You won't have time to watch them when you there anyway. You might as well wait until you get home.

If you are itching to watch a Disney movie when you are there your best option is to go down to Fort Wilderness and catch the nightly flick that starts at 8:40. It's like going to the movies for free...sort of.

Have a great trip! It is a wonderful place that never gets old, even if you go there a few times a month like my wife and I do :)

well, I go at least every year...I think I would really get old of it if I went a few times a month, because new rides don't open every week...

But the experience will always be different. :D

Anyway, I echo what Michael said, don't bother buying from the parks or merch stores, as they'll sell it at full SRP (except for new releases, usually only during the first month). If you come across a set you don't commonly find elsewhere, like Walt: The Man Behind The Myth or the Frank & Ollie documentary, pick it up. Otherwise, you could easily find it cheaper at a BestBuy.

And of the few park-exclusive DVDs, they're pretty pricey and really don't offer much (sure, it's video footage of some rides and park areas, but at the expense of the original soundtracks in favor of more generic-sounding stuff, and the characters interrupting can get quite annoying at times).

The only DVDs I'd get are ones that are about WDW. When I was at WDW in the summer of 2002, I got a DVD about the 100 Years of Magic celebration, which was kinda like your average touring resort video, but with little snippets of proper dialogue from Walt about Disney parks. This DVD contains a bonus feature: "The Walt Disney Story", an attraction once found at both DL and WDW.

I just returned from Disney World (got off the plane 2 hours ago) and NOBODY sells the Treasures there, however I was able to find the 4 Legacy collections at the Main Steet Cinema in the Magic Kingdom, where they also carry the season sets of the 80's animated cartoons like "The Gummy Bears" and "Ducktales."
