What do you think? Is Disney going to release a 2 disk special edition of Treasure Plant? Are they thinking that they lost a ton of $ on the film and are just going to let the movie disapear? I'm just starting my Disney DVD collection and don't want to buy the single disk version if a double disk will be out sometime in the next few years.

They did it in the UK and France,so they'll do it in the US and Canada.

No we didn't. The UK only got a PC game bundled in with the single disc, and France got a bundle with the live action Treasure Island.

Then,who got the 2-Disc version?

There is no 2 disc edition. Only a single disc editions with a related second disc (which in the UK is not even a DVD).

As for the topic, there are plenty of Treasure Planet fans that would swoop in on this in a heartbeat. And I'm definitely one of them. I loved this movie and would gladly double-dip and purchase a 2-disc SE.

Do I think they'll do it...no.
But I certainly hope they will at some point, but I'd say it's more likely once a new format emerges or for something special like a re-release or 10th Anniversary.

What kind of extras are on the single disk? I'm all about the bonus features on DVD's.

Considering how much Disney seems to have promoted the fact that they consider Treasure Planet a bomb, I was very suprised (pleasntly, of course) with the quality of the single-disc DVD version we got. Sure, it's not as generous Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, A Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc. are, but it's a very good disc with bonus features that will please you if you're a fan of the film, especially the visiual/audio commentary. And when it comes down to it, we buy DVDs to own the movie -- and this movie is presented in fine form. A direct digital-to-digital transfer, it looks absolutely stunning even on my standard 4x3 set. I watched it again a couple weekends ago and was completely blown away. It sounds pretty nifty, too. It is on par with the single-disc Lilo & Stitch and the other Disney single-disc versions such as Peter Pan and Hunchback.

To sum it up: Get it. It's a great disc with a nice selection of extras and a top-notch presentation, and when we do get a re-release it'll probably be on HD-DVD in 2007 or later.

Treasure Planet won't be a double disc ever it's a low grossing movie first of all. Second it bomb at the box office. Finally there will be a Treasure Planet 2 or Treasure Planet : The Series in the future. Not a joke

Hope they don't for a while. No offense; but I think that's the worst Animated Classic ever. Black Cauldron nedds to come out 2 disk soon!

The suplements for a 2-disc set were produced, but, as with "Lilo", Disney decided to release just the standard edition (for obvious reasons). Lots of deleted scenes didn't make into the DVD, most of them featuring Scroop (scenes they had to delete because of the executives). For example, in the gallery "Moments" (on the DVD), there is a picture of the original scene when Jim is on the Legacy getting the map back, and Scroop is holding a knife. Of course, this was censored by the executives...

well, now is more possible a 2 disc edition of Brother Bear (but not likely), I doubt Treasure planet will have one.

I do hate to say it, because I adore Treasure Planet, but I can't really see what they could add to a 2 disc set. The single disc Treasure Planet is not as packed as it would first appear, but there's not really anything that they could add. Disney do have a 25 minute "Making of" which I have from a Free DVD from a magazine in the UK, but the rest of the 2 disc regulars are all featured on the single disc release - even if each segment is dramatically cut down. Well done Disney - you've sucessfully blocked off all future revenue streams for the movie.

There's an interesting TP thread on The Laughing Place forum (especially the later comments). I suppose the "obvious reasons" Joe Carioca mentions are that the Disney executives never wanted the film to do well in the first place.

That's true... The executives never liked "Treasure Planet", and the film was predestinated to fail.
I recomend everyone to read the post concerning Treasure Planet's failure. Very interesting.

It really is a shame if that was the case with TP because it really is a good movie. I have to say I was shocked at how good it was since it flopped so bad in the states.

If its true that some more of the stuff cut from TP was more violent its a shame we might never get to see it.

I need to see this one.

Just because a film flopped doesn't mean it was a bad movie.

I don't think Fantasia was that succesful of a film when it was first released, but it ended up being one of the best films of all time.
