I read on WikiPedia that the DVD of The Black Cauldron is OOP. Is this true? Sorry if this question sounds dumb!

It doesn't sound dumb. I sure hope it is out of print, hopefully Disney will restore it and make all it's computer effects look 10 times better. Although after what they did to Dumbo, The Fox and The Hound, And possible Robin Hood it will most likely recieve a mild restoration.

Anybody can edit Wikipedia, and given the fact that online stores make no mention of it being out of print (Amazon usually as a "this item will go out of print, order while it's still in stock" type of warning), and the fact that UD itself has not mentioned it at all, we can take wiki to be rumors and/or misinformation.

I've edited the article to remove the out-of-print status on wiki, and replaced it with something more substantial and accurate. Until there's actually more confirmation on it being placed back in the vault, I would still consider it in-print.

Sam's Club has a treasure trove of Disney DVDs (especially Gold Collection disc) and Black Cauldron is one that they have numerous copies of.

Escapy in the corrected version is the part stating the the R2 dvd is both restored and anamorphic accurate?

I just checked Disney's official site and they say that Black Cauldron is still in print

Is the picture unrestored on the GC DVD? I think on the R2 DVD it is (except for France).

i tot the only anamorphic editions were the french and korean dvds.

On the R2 it's unrestored and non-anamorphic. Even I can see it's not the best picture quality, as it flickers, and has scratches etc.

Perhaps you mean the old R2 release? I own the new one, and it is restored and anamorphic.

But the new one you're talking about is the French release. We were referring to the regular UK release.

Well, I've suggested from time to time that some sort of "special edition" of TBC with some "serious" extras would be both possible and desirable, although maybe not all that likely... 10 discs would seem a bit on the "far side", I guess.

As for Wikipedia, I'm under the impression that their system works better than one might think. "Anybody" can edit the articles, but if someone posts misinformation it's very likely that it will be discovered and corrected. As far as I understand there are "moderators" with powers to ban those who misinform repeatedly. At least this is supposedly the case for the Norwegian-language version.

At my Sam's, there was a few copies of the Black Cauldron and other disney movies such as The Rescuers (1 and 2), Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I find the idea of a 10 disc edition of the Black Cauldron absured, since it was one of Disney's biggest bombs and is not really well received enough. Besides it would only mean one feaure per disc.

it was just an example escapy edited in to wikipedia to show how it could be easily edited

That was a joke, of course. The fact that the TBC was "one of Disney's biggest bombs", as you say, would make a special edition even a bit less likely. But I believe a "serious treatment" of this title could be highly interesting. It was in the making for a period of about ten years! Probably a lot of abandoned ideas and other problems there.

At least give us a nice documentary. TBC has the best Gold Collection release, IMO, with extensive art/picture galleries. There's so much back story to this movie, that Disney totally couldmake a great 2-disc DVD set.

I'm not sure if I've asked this on here already, and if I did, I'm not sure where, but is anyone familiar enough with the film/animation process that would know if the footage Jeffrey Katzenberg cut out would still be in the vaults somewhere? It wouldn't have been thrown out, right?

I think nothing in the Disney studios, if it concerns animation is ever thrown out!! They wouldn't have all those deleted scenes from old movies, if they threw all that stuff out. So, I think this fully animated(it's more than some sketches of a deleted scene, it's actually fully animated with music and dialogue!!!) is still somewhere in the vaults. It'd be awesome to see the movie with all the cut scenes and the way the animators had actually wanted to make it.
