Most over-rated Disney movie

The only one I can think of right now is actually a Pixar movie, but a lot of people see Disney and Pixar as a hand-in-glove sort of thing. Anyway, the movie that I think people make too big of a fuss over is: The Incredibles. The Incredibles, as some of you may know, carries the distinction of being the longest-running (in terms of minutes) animated film to date. Well, (and agian, maybe this is just me) if you're going to make a 2 1/2 hour long movie, at least make it interesting. And some of you may say that it's action-packed, but maybe that's what makes it so uninteresting to me. Well, anyway, what Disney movies do you guys think is over-rated?

I've never liked Peter Pan but I wouldn't say I think it's overrated because I can see why people would love it.

Now underrated movies on the other hand is a whole different discussion!

Tarzan. I don't like the characters the music or anything really. I'll never be able to understand how it made $100 million or so at the box office.

The Lion King, perhaps...

The Lion King. Doesn't stop it from being one of my favourite films of all time. :D

Somewhat off-topic rant: I think sometimes people confuse movies they don't like with overrated. The fact that a movie may not work for you, yet works for the many doesn't mean it's overrated. Overrated really is only when there's so much hype and glitz around it, when all you get is something 'meh' at best. For example: Pirates of the Caribbean. Don't get me wrong, I love the film. ADORE it. But it really is nothing more than a fun, fast-paced adventure flick. Critics made the first one seem like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Finding Nemo!!
Again a Pixar flick, but it never really worked for me, and I know a lot of people who didn't like it. It was too fluffy and Disney/Pixar used too many obvious tricks that they had used before (mom's death, so goes out to explore the world after a row, daddy has to save him) I thought the story was pretty bathetic and had nothing new to it. The world under the sea was another thing that we already knew (see TLM) and the animals looked like any other GGI animals.[/b]

Joe, I think you need to get some facts straight on this movie. It is only 113 minutes long, not 2 and 1/2 hours, and it is not the longest animated film from the Disney/Pixar line, that claim goes to "Cars" (116 minutes)..

Here goes that age thing: Now I am a lot older than all of you here, and I can tell you that "The Incredibles" was a fascinating movie, and not the least overrated. That claim could probably fit "Finding Nemo", but I really like that one also, but for a lot of different reasons.

I never look for whether a movie is overrated or underrated, I look for the entertainment value, because that is what movies are supposed to be - Entertainment!

Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi, and Dumbo.

I get that they are the first animated films and that makes them somewhat landmarks, but these films are utterly boring. The only reason I own them is for posterity.

True!! Pinocchio is just weird IMO. I've only seen it twice, but I never liked it.
Too frightening, too weird and the music isn't that great either.

WOW! What a statement! Nothing personal, but I couldn't disagree with you more.

Both Cars and Fantasia are 124 minutes long, they tie for the longest animated films from Disney.

I think the most overrated Disney film is probably Pirates of the Caribbean. I understand why people like it but I don't understand why people like it to such a degree.

If it really mattered, that statement would make me sad.

One individual's "level of appreciation" is difficult to judge and measure, though. I guess it doesn't work like that for everyone, but the historical importance of those titles truly adds to my appreciation of them.

Totally wrong there. "Fantasia" is 125 minutes long and "Cars" is only 116. Don't know where you got your figures from. Check with IMDb next time.

I really can't see what got The Incredibles that amount of money sure it's a good film, but that's just it, good. I totally prefered Toy Story 1&2,
A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo. That brings me to my next one, Finding Nemo, it may have been better than The Incredibles but it still lacked the magic (to me anyway) to make it the 2nd highest grossing animated film of all time.

Tarzan is overrated. Maybe because i was about 11 when it came out and i was getting sick of disney animated features.

Fantasia is OKAY in my opinion but it is kind of boring.

I like Beauty and the Beast but I find it a little overrated.

I am not quite sure why I am arguing about this but let me clarify a few things.

1) My screen name is MichaeLeah, not MichaelLeigh. It is a combination of my name and my wife's name.

2) I did check IMDb for the length of Cars and that is where I got the 124 figure from. I looked up Cars at allmovie.com and they said it was only 116 minutes. Maybe IMDb also included the time from the short, I don't know. But I did look it up at a reputable site. The press release here at UD does verify Cars is about 116 minutes.

3) I got my length of Fantasia from this website, which is always an accurate source. I don't think a one minute differential is a necessary opportunity for correction because they are both approximate figures anyway.[/i]

I'd say "Beauty and The Beast" and "Lion King"! people rant on and on about how these are the greatest disney movies ever! i just can't believe it.

I'd say that "Emperor's New Groove", "Aladdin" and "Mulan" are both better movies in my opinion.

I agree about The Lion King (but it might just be me and my slight disagreement with animals-movies), but Beauty and the Beast is the greatest movie ever. ;)

Don't kill me, but I'm going to say "The Nightmare Before Christmas." I know it is a good film, but I think it's simply good. The explosion of popularity it has gotten recently has kinda blown me away. Okay, maybe it's more than good, but I don't think it's the incredible masterpiece it's been made out to be (and don't get me wrong, I love Tim Burton, stop-motion animation, etc...).

I also think the original Rescuers is a bit overrated. I just was never that impressed with the over all look of the film. I love the film, but always thought most aspects of the the art/visuals could have been better. I LOVE the sequel though.

As for the Incredibles, I definitely feel it is one of PIXAR's best and not overrated at all. I do feel "Cars" is overrated. Of course, I've only seen it once and the sound in the theater was awful. However, while I thought it was very good, it's the first PIXAR film I didn't think was just excellent in nearly every way.

Oh, and I'm probably forgetting something that should be mentioned.

The only Pixar films that I can think that is over-rated are Finding Nemo, Cars and A Bug's Life.

For Disney the most over-rated are probably The Hunchback of Notre Dame and 101 Dalmatians....
