controversial topic

i had a thought recently. most of us are just wanting to collect the disney films to have for posterity and entertainment purposes. some collect them for the cover box art (like myself), but this is extremely expensive. i was wondering if anyone else has ventured into the burned dvd phenomena that has gotten some attention lately. do you think they are adequate quality? i would be interested in purchasing the dvd rips only for dvds that aren't released in region 1 (i.e. song of the south, and flight of the navigator....to name a few). if this is a hot topic and no one wants to address it, that's fine and you can take this off, but if anyone has any very nice contacts that they would feel comfortable mentioning that would be helpful as well.

another thought was about dvd rips of VHS transnfers of disney stuff. as i recall, almost everything has been released to PAL VHS at sometime. i have only a region 1 player and am not sure of the type of quality that would come of it. i know it has to be better than the "blackbeard's ghost" transfer. i would be interested in a parent trap II dvd a perri dvd and a doubleswitch dvd to name a few.

i'm not really sure of the process and coding that is all involved in it. if anyone can educate me on the subject overall and average pricing that would be extremely beneficial. thanks a ton.

p.s. sorry if i made anyone mad

Without going into a song-and-dance about ethics, the law, etc.,. I will say that in regards to rips and bootlegs you get what you pay for. I know a few that have purchased some of these REGION 0 discs and not one has been satisfied with the product they have. For me it's a simple choice if it's not a current DVD release: VHS

And I'm not sure if Luke would allow links to known bootleggers, although I'm sure folks could e-mail you any contacts that they have.

Bootlegs

I own bootlegs of Bambi, Cinderella and Song of the South.

I onlly got them to complete my collection. The transfer is marginally better than VHS and the sound is no better(I suspect they came from Laserdisk).

If you are not a DVD completist wait for the disney versions. I will be replacing the cheapos as soon as the legitimate release comes out.

I heard something about Song of the South being put on a WD Treasures set, it's probably just a rumor, but its something to grasp onto.

First of all, collect the DVD's for the movie, and second don't buy bootlegs. They're all crappy full-screen transfers,or video copies of the laserdiscs,or crap from Taiwan.

I own pirate copies of those what are really hard to find like little mermaid or lady and the tramp, of course I´ll buy the platinum ones but it is just too long the wait. So sure I´ll buy a bootleg copy of song of the south if I see one.

If i had the equpament of vhs transfering here, i could convert some of my vhs to dvd, mailnly because the movies coming into the dvd (like beauty and the beast and the lion king) isnot the exact release from it original theatrical release.
