2 questions about the list of the Disney DVDs most-purchased

I was looking at the list of the Disney DVDs most-purchased through this site for the year 2003 that was just added to ultimatedisney.com. http://shop.ildb.org/?rank=y I had a few questions.

1) Does anyone know if there will ever be a 2 disc Peter Pan? With all these 2 discs coming out, it makes me wonder. I didn't get the special edition, but I wonder if I should.

2) Did everyone buy the Limited issue dvd of The Little Mermaid? I feel like I'm the only one who didn't since I am looking foward to the platinum!

Well I don't know, maybe it's time to start hunting these down on ebay! :|

Peter Pan has been added to the Platinum list, so it is 100% that there will be a 2 disc set released before 2010. France (and Japan) already have a 2 disc set, but the release is a hotch potch of the current Special Edition with limited additions (the Paramount 1924 film and a documentary on Disney animators). I expect a proper US 2 disc set to be much better.

No, you're not the only one stuck without a Little Mermaid Limited Issue. I'm still looking, too. (Granted, I would have bought it in 1999, but Dad wouldn't let me since we didn't have a DVD player yet.) I'm going to get the Platinum too of course, but with the news that Mermaid is going IMAX, I want the LI for the original theatrical cut (or, rather, closer than the Platinum will be - it's supposedly been briefly censored.)

I bought my first DVD player in August of 2000.
Thankfully I had already started buying DVDs before I had the actual player, and TLM LE was one of the first ones I bought.

I got The Little Mermaid as my freebie with Snow White for ordering from the Disney Store online. Not a great DVD by any means, but such an excellent film. I'm glad to have it, and without having to pay the price people buying it today do. You know, until I compiled the list, I had no idea people were buying these Limited Issues in rather massive quantities through Marketplace links.

So you still get a percentage of Marketplace sales Luke?

Yep, 2.5%, so half of the Amazon percentage.

So Luke, you can see how many folks have pre-ordered the Wave 3 Tins via your affiliate link? If so, what's the number thus far?

Well, I know the number of tins ordered, not the number of people who have pre-ordered. And many of those will never ship, for a variety of reasons - cancelled pre-orders, invalid payment method, etc. Anyway, I think it might be against Amazon's terms to talk actual numbers.

E-mail me if you really want to know.

A little advice for those of you trying to find the more rare OOP Disney dvds. Keep your eyes on Half.com. The inventory changes every second, and there are people out there who just aren't aware that they can get premium prices for these dvds or just don't care to charge a lot. Between May and August of this year, I was able to get Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, and Lady And The Tramp for an average of less than $26 each. So many people told me I never could, but I did. Just takes lots of time , patience, and persivierence. BE VERY CAREFUL THOUGH... lots of bootleg copies out there and you can be fooled very easily. Good luck.

Avoid anything that says "Import", "Region 0", "Asian", "Region Free." If they have a picture (on eBay) and it has a DVD-5 sticker on it, it's a bootleg. "No insert" is usually a warning sign too.

Exactly Luke. Anything that says dvd-5 OR dvd-9. For these particular dvds (the Disney Limited Issue dvds), any that boast a dts soundtrack. None of them have dts soundtracks, only the bootlegs which sound bad because it's not true dts. Asian version = BAD. Import = BAD. Check their eBay feedback to make sure it's good. For almost all bootleggers, in their feedback will be complaints from others accusing them of the dvd being a copy or bootleg. Of course stay away from those sellers. And again, like Luke said, no chapter insert is a great indicator too, although the good bootlegs are including them now.

HEY! Not all Asian DVDs are illegal you know....although a huge majority of them are. So don't start condeming us here.....

Anyways, tips on finding out about illegal/bootlegged DVDs from Asia:
[1] Anything thats priced to good to be true (on average, market prices for a pirated DVD-5 is about US$2 and DVD-9 is about US$4)
[2] Look at pictures if they're included...preferably real camera shots of the item and not some image ripped of from Amazon or elsewhere. Pirated DVDs have horribel speeling (sic) and bad printing
[3] Legit Disney DVDs in Asia all have a security sticker, Disney hologram and/or an additional licensing board sticker attached....ask to see it before buying.
[4] Region free is a good indicator....Disney DVDs MUST HAVE a region to be distributed legally.
[5] Do note that some legal Disney DVDs are DVD-5 single layered....these are released as budget versions and cost about US$10 each). The only ones I know of that are DVD5 are Tarzan, Toy Story1/2, Dinosaur but its best to stay clear of these.
[6] The DTS warning is good....pirated DVDs have a (usually) oval shaped DTS hologram sticker attached eventhough no DTS is available on disc. A true DTS DVD should have it printed on the cover or is a rounded rectangular sticker instead.

Other than that, you can't really tell a bootleg from an original.....I should know cause I have a few :D They're bit-for-bit exact identical copies of the original DVD-9s except for lack of regioncoding. If anybody wants, I probably can include scans of true original R3 DVDs for comparison purposes.

Not sure if people are aware of this (or care), but I've been regularly updating the Top Sellers list:

http://shop.ildb.org/?rank=y

Really interesting to see what the slice of Disney DVD collectors who find this site buy. Frank & Ollie, for instance, has sold more copies than all but 6 'animated classics.' Well, I think it's interesting, anyway.

8) I didn't get my DVD player until April of 2003 but I had been collecting DVD'S Ever since 1999 because I had been using my dVD's on the DVD player on my Lap-Top. I don't have a lot of the Animated Limited Issue DVD's but I was able to get a lot of good ones and I still collect . Why don't you look at my dvd collection @

I have not completed it but I have a lot of DVD s on it I have a lot more to add to my list that I own but look at it anyway. I have a lot of neat DVD'S in my question and most of them not all of them but most of them are still available for purchase.

The 1st DVD I purchased was Happiest Millionaire and that is what started my Collection/
