Sorry if this has been posted up on this site in some other form but I was wondering what Disney Animated Classics have already been restored and put on Disney-DVD?

All the animated classics have a review and will answer your questions.

Well I don't think this has been listed anywhere, but I may be wrong.

Here is the list of classics that have been restored: (Films In Blue may be restored again, if that is possible)
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Dumbo
Bambi
Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
Winnie the Pooh
Robin Hood (with upcoming DVD release)
The Fox and the Hound (with upcoming DVD release)
The Little Mermaid (see the above 2)
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King
Pocahontas
Mulan
every movie from Tarzan on are restored/ or never needed to be restored.

and Mary Poppins, however not a classic, has been restored

So that leaves us with...

i wouldnt count fox and the hound as being restored, more like distort. i didnt know pooh had a restoration. it mustve been to the extreme original brilliance that i can still see dirt and obstrusive grain on the film.

Why not? Haven't you seen the trailer for the 25th AE? It looks SOOO much better than my worn out VHS tape. I'm so excited for this release too.

from the screencaps it looks like they just tinkered with the brightness which looks awful.i prefer the solid darker look of the GC.

did anyone notice rescuers down under had different colors on the dvd than on the laserdisc. that movie would look awesome restored.it is done using caps after all.

Well, whatever floats your boat. I can't change your opinion unless I write a persuasive essay which won't come anytime soon. I just wondered what your opinion was.

for now dumbo and FATH and possibly robin hood still falls under my upgrade consideration list. btw, i wonder why fantasia couldnt look as good as pinocchio and snow white considering both were made bfr fantasia and had better restoration.

Then how come on the back of the DVD's for "Beauty and the Beast" through "Pocahontas" they claim to be restored? Hunchback also claims to be restored, and looks it as well. I could believe that from "Mulan" to "Home on the Range" the CAPS transfers were used, since they were released to DVD within a year to 6 months after their completion, but prior films claim to be restored. And "Chicken Little" wouldn't have been a CAPS transfer since it's a CG film, right?

I'd have to say that "Beauty and the Beast" was most deffinatley not taken directly from it's CAPS version because they went in and digitally adjusted color and tint, something they only typically do when it's been restored.

I included Chicken Little because I put both CAPS and "Digital Source" at the group heading, not just CAPS. Where on the packaging does Hunchback say "restored?" It says remastered, which is different. It's basically saying this is the first time the film can be seen in a digital medium, though they didn't even bother to use the CAPS files in storage.

I think Disney kept advertising Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Pocahontas as restored because in their case, it was a literal restoration: the public finally got to see them in their original digital state for the very first time with no film involved whatsoever. Don't forget that restoration also includes sound. While there was no regular restoration process on them such as airbrushing print flaws and filtering grain, their soundtracks were cleaned up and remixed. Beauty and the Beast I'll give you, though, because that one definitely had its color pallette changed from the original CAPS files. Still, I consider restorations to be film prints that have had their wear and tear digitally removed so that they now look clean. Beauty and the Beast through Pocahontas never went through that process. I consider them remasterings, not restorations.

Thanks Disney Kid. I always assumed "remastered" and "restored" were the same thing and didn't take into considderation the audio aspect. I see where you are coming from now.

don't forget that on BatB, Aladdin, TLK and possibly TLM - they did new animation for IMAX re-release (some actually came out, others did not) which included reanimating the small details that wouldnt' ahve looked so good on the big screen, fixing things up, etc. In BatB they inserted "human again" and during the scene, everyone cleans up the house, so all the scenes afterward actually had the backgrounds changed so that the house didn't look so dirty!
