High School Spirit Week!!!

Hey guys! Since next week is Spirit Week at my high school, I was wondering what other high schoolers on this board do for their spirit weeks! For me, Spirit Week is always the most competitive week (between classes anyway) in the entire year, and most definately my favorite week! And, the reason I also wanted to talk about this subject on UD is because of our AMAZING class themes we have this year. This year, our overall themes (for all classes) is DISNEY MOVIES!!! :D :D When I found out, I don't think I can even begin to explain how excited I was!!! Anyway, here's the different movies for each class:

Freshman: Toy Story
Sophmores: The Little Mermaid (I thought this was the biggest coincidence EVER since TLM PE comes out during my school's spirit week... although I'm not a sophmore. )
Juniors: Peter Pan
Seniors: Aladdin

I thought this was pretty darn amazing! So....any Ideas for dressing up as a character from Aladdin??? (Aladdin kinda stinks, cause I'm a girl, and the only girl in the whole movie is Jasmine...and I kinda don't have a Jasmine costume.. :( )

Anyway, What does/did YOUR high school do for spirit week??

I went to two high schools and both managed to have ridiculously unoriginal Spirit Week themes: Pajama Day, Twin Day, Sports Team Day, Mascot Day, etc. A Disney motif would've been awesome.

brotherbear, no Jasmine outfit necessary: wear something aquamarine and carry around a plush tiger.

On my High School's spirit weeks, I always used to write stories detailing the violent deaths of every jock and cheerleader in the school. Now, I feel a little funny about that - have cheerleaders for friends and I've turned into a bit of a jock myself (I've only said I hate watching sports, not playing them). But I've never been into the idea of school spirit. Kids are supposed to hate school and rebel against it. Even if it's not hell for them.

I always say that the kids who enjoyed high school were either very lucky or had something wrong with them.

That's really cool! I was on the committee that organized spirit week in high school and I proposed a Disney Day for one of our days, but it was narrowly defeated.

When I was in school, we never had any really good Spirit Weeks. Every grade from kindergarden to seniors were encouraged to participate. We always had the same old boring themes: twinkie (twin) day, camouflage day, pajama day, crazy hat day, and homecoming t-shirt day. Sometimes pajama and hat days would be replaced with western day and 50's day.

That stinks. I think we had a Disney Day but I can't even remember already.

If you don't wanna dress up as Jasmine, why not be Carpet? Find the pattern, iron it onto a t-shirt on both sides, and have those fluffy brushy things on a pair of slippers, and sew them onto gloves as well. And be silent the entire time, lol...

I don't remember.

I always found "spirit days" to be overrated.

Ooohh Sequel!! We have our spirit weeks on the same week! yay!

Anway, I just realized I didn't put up our schedule:

Friday (this passed friday)- Class Color Day (Seniors (me)- Tye Die...dont ask) Also we created our class mural (which is based around your class theme...

Monday: Pajama Day

Tuesday: Superhero / Camoflauge Day

Wednesday: Hawaiian / Cowboy Day

Thursday: Class Theme Day (Aladdin, PP, TLM, or Toy Story) Also, we have shortened classes on this day, to accomidate for class skits that we have (all classes, faculty included, present a skit based around their class theme...this is without a doubt the BEST part of spirit week, since the skits are often hilarious!)

Friday: Wacky-Tacky / Blue and Gold Day (blue/gold = our school colors) This day we also have shortened classes to accomidate for the Pep Rally... Also after school is the Homecoming Football game. And we also (traditionally) have a bonfire before the game where bands play.

I LOVE SPIRIT WEEK!!! :D And, I'm really sorry for those of you who went/go to a high school that has lousy spirit weeks...seriously, our whole school gets really into it, and some people start planning events, skits, hall decorations, etc. at the beginning of the school year!! or earlier!!

Spirit week was always one of my favorite weeks in high school. Our themes were divided by class, but by day. While they varied from year to year a few examples are tacky day, pajama day, blast from the past, idol day, opposite sex day, and of course just regular school spirit day.

Our high school spirit week (which I don't participate in) is mainly devoted to one day where practically the whole school dishes out in their class colors with painted faces, spray painted hair, tshirts and everything in their class colors.

Freshman: Yellow
Sophomores: Purple
Juniors: Green (me)
Seniors: Red

Other days are like cowboy day or some decade day but not many people participate in that.

But I think it was 2 weeks ago on a friday to celebrate homecoming (which dance hasn't come yet) we had a Disney Day at our school where everyone dished out in Disney clothes and costumes. It was cool.

brotherbear, I wish I went to your school and that I was still a Junior....
Heck, I would show up in a Peter Pan costume anyway.

I'm afraid I'm in the club of people who had crappy Spirit weeks. The best thing about it for me was getting out of classes early on Thursday and Friday for pep rallies (which I never went to :P ).

But I did have a Disney connection at school last year. Ever halloween, the girls dorms have a contest called "Boo Bash." Each hallway chooses a theme and decorates accordingly. Then the kids from town come and trick-or-treat through the halls and vote on the best one. Last year, one of the hallways was Disney themed! They asked me to help and I had a BLAST! I let them use all my Disney movie posters. At the very end of the hall, the had a huge drawing of the old school Disney Pictures castle logo. When the contest was over (they won), they gave it to me :D .

Ironically, I was just thinking about this the other day...

I didn't have much school spirit, lol, so I didn't participate in many spirit week dress-up things, but in 10th grade, we had celebrity dress up day one day during Spirit Week. I wore a plaid skirt, white dress up shirt, brown sweater, knee socks, and pigtails (I wish I had a picture!)- Britney's schoolgirl outfit from her "Baby One More Time" video. Now, considering that this was 2 years after that video came out, and half the girls in the school (or so it seemed) were in similar outfits, it was a little weird. But it was fun. So, I was walking home from school (since I lived close to the school)...the 2 older sisters in the family who lived 3 houses up from my house went to the technical high school...so they more than likely didn't have celebrity dress-up day that day. :p And they were in their mom's vehicle and they drove past me to go home...I was all dressed like Britney Spears. They probably thought that I was such a dork! But it makes for an amusing story. :)

Some of the girls in my college class have started Theme Thursday where everyone wears whatever themed thingy. Even our profs are participating now. I think the whole thing is lame.
