Figured I'd retitle and rewrite the first post in this old thread to reflect on the new edition (which is also now being delayed). Also, I was watching the original DVD, and figured I'd post the runtimes for the material that was carried over to the new edition (aka all of them).

Mrs. Doubtfire: Behind-The-Seams Edition (originallly planned for May 8, new release date TBA)
Disc 1: The Movie (2:05:04)

Commentaries:
-Commentary: Robin Williams and Marsha Garces Williams (2:05:04)
-Commentary: Chris Columbus (2:05:04, ported over)

Deleted/Extended/Alternate Scenes (these aren't the actual names, I made them up as the old DVD plays the scenes in one long run)
-Play All or Select Individually (29:14, ported over)
--Daniel/Miranda Outdoor Argument (2:41)
--Steel Magnolias Disguise/Extended Jewish Woman Disguise (0:48 )
--Mrs. Doubtfire Meets Gloria Chaney (5:34)
--Feather Duster Dance (0:37)
--Cookies & Milk (0:33)
--Doing Laundry/Start Dinner Dinner (1:54)
--Dress Shopping (0:40)
--Gloria Chaney Watering Plants (0:20)
--Dying Flowers and a Dash of Wee (1:03)
--Avoiding Mrs. Selner (0:39)
--Spelling Bee Arguments (6:11)
--Rejecting the Bus Driver: Version 1 (1:18 )
--Rejecting the Bus Driver: Version 2 (1:29)
--Mrs. Doubtfire's Legs in the Restroom (1:03)
--Lost and Found Things: Long Version (1:44)
--Lost and Found Things: Short Version (0:47)
--Inspecting the Jambalaya (0:52)
--Mrs. Chaney Discovers The Truth (0:47)

Forced Trailer:
-The Sandlot: Heading Home

Disc 2: Extra Features (they're divided this way according to FYE's online entry)

Documentaries/Featurettes/Galleries: (didn't really have a name, so I called it this)
-From Man to Mrs.: The Evolution of Mrs. Doubtfire (multi-chapter documentary)
-Aging Gracefully: A Look Back at Mrs. Doubtfire
-Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery
-Gag/Blooper Reel

Animation Studio:
-A Conversation with Legendary Animator Chuck Jones (4:32, ported over)
-Original Pencil Test (2:18, ported over)
-Final Animation (5:06, ported over)
-Final Animation Sequence with Alternate Backgrounds

Make-Up Department:
-Mak-Up Application with Ve Neill (3:47, ported over)
-Make-Up Photo Gallery
-5 Make-Up Tests (4:10, ported over?)
--The original featurette featured short soundbytes followed by clips from a few make-up tests, so I'm not sure if the "5 Make-Up Tests" mentioned in various specs was the same featurette or the individual tests on their own with a separate unannounced featurette.

Stage A:
-The Improvisation of Mrs. Doubtfire (Select Individual Takes or Play All):
--Scene 26: "Another Applicant"
--Scene 34HH: "A Work in Progress"
--Scene 78F: "Mrs. Catchfire"
--Scene 111B: "The Death of Mr. Doubtfire"
--Scene 131: "Daniel's Show"
--Scene 148A: "Pitching Mr. Lundy"
--Scene 159B: "Girlfriends"

Publicity Department:
-Original 1993 Featurette (8:22, ported over?)
--The old DVD had a short "Cast Interviews" featurette that ran 8:22, so this may or may not be the same thing
-Meet Mrs. Doubtfire
--called an "all-new interview with Robin Williams" in some specs, but may be a 1993 interview.
-Theatrical Teaser (1:07, ported over)
-Theatrical Trailer #1 (2:00, ported over)
-Theatrical Trailer #2
-TV Spots (1 30-second TV Spot ported over)
-Theatrical Poster Gallery
-Easter Egg: Arrested Development clip

ETA: Here's the original post...
Just for the heck of it, I typed in Mrs. Doubtfire at Amazon, and found this listing under "Mrs. Doubtfire (Ws Sen)"

I checked some other sites too, and the one that has it (buy.com) have the same listing, as a new release coming out October 17, 2006. DVDaf doesn't have it listed yet, though.

Could 20th Century Fox finally be re-releasing this film as a proper anamorphic DVD?

Hopefully it'll retain all the extras (and a bit more) on the OOP disc (commentary, deleted scenes, interviews, behind-the-scenes make-up footage, animation storyboards and pencil tests, trailers and tv spots). Wouldn't mind seeing an actual type of making-of featurette and maybe some new interviews or commentaries...

Nothing on DVD Active about this and being so close to release date you'd think there'd be cover art posted. Guess we'll see what happens.

Yeah, I never saw the title on any of the DVD news sites I frequent (thedigitalbits, dvdactive, dvdtimes, davisdvd, dvdreview).

But at the same time, I never knew about Fox's re-release of Love Me Tender as a new Special Edition until I saw it in stores (back in February), as no news sites reported about that one either (at digitalbits, Barrie Maxwell said it totally slipped under his radar, and apparently, a lot of others' too). So maybe it's not been announced yet to the news sites, but Amazon and Buy.com already know about it.

It's only a month away, and doesn't seem to be a big release from Fox, since no one's heard anything about it besides two online ordering sites.

There are a lot of films that we never see final artwork for before it gets released. Stick It's preliminary artwork has been all over the internet, but yesterday when I went to rent it, the artwork was different. And the artwork for X-Men 3 looks very preliminary. I seriously hope they perfect it before the film's DVD release.

So just because DVD Active doesn't have anything doesn't mean it's not happening.

We could also get the artwork soon.

YAY for Mrs. Doubtfire!!

If Mrs. Doubtfire is re-released to DVD, I'm going to want it for Christmas!

I suspect the DVD re-release is being done to spark interest in this. :|

Yep, Mrs. Doubtfire is getting re-released. It's been confirmed at Allmovie.com and they can take the longest of any place to get confirmation. What's more, it will get 2 DVDs, one Wide and the other Full - screen.

Allmovie's listing mentions "Holiday Themed-O-Ring" (whatever that is) and confirms the date as October 17.

Funny, I've always heard that film was canceled because they could never find a good enough script. But seeing that Bonnie Hunt is attached to it, I'm guessing they've got something working right now.

Poo, a dual-release. Times like this I'd rather Fox release a flipper like they usually do so that Wal-Mart will at least carry equal amounts of both versions rather than the 85/15 ratio* of P&S to widescreen that they're so fond of doing...

As for "Holiday Themed O-Ring"...have no idea what that could mean, unless it's just a term for "DVDs being re-released in a new edition so that people will buy it for the Holiday season".

*doubt that's the real ratio, but I'm sure it's close.

Oh dear Lord in Heaven. A sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire?? What kind of plot will this movie have? Will Mara Wilson come out from under her rock? Will Sally Field reprise her role? Apparently, the former Bond is attached.

Wow. This is insanity.

I believe the sequel's never going to happen and this DVD is just to promote a few of Robin's many films this fall/winter, one of which is being released by Doubtfire's distributor, Fox.

As for 'Holiday Themed O-Ring', I don't know about the Holiday Themed part but O-Ring is some mysterious kind of outer packaging that has been announced with many upcoming films in October/November (Sony's releases have been the ones primarily targeted).

Anyway, yay! Anamorphic Doubtfire, something I've waited for for years. The only was this could get better is if Tim Burton would release a 2-Disc SE of Beetlejuice.

Cheers,
JM :thumb:

I can not wait for the new DVD! I did not get the last one so this is nice. Also I'd like to see the new film and since Bonnie Hunt is the writer it should be very good. :D

I missed out on the original release of this DVD as well. If I can somehow fit it into my budget, I'll pick it up. I have good memories of me and my mom enjoying this movie together.

I have a feeling an o-ring is a cardboard slipcover. As in "outer covering".

That make sense. Especially since Fox likes having different slipcovers for catalog titles at Wal-Mart and Target. I swear, every few months they change the slipcover design. IIRC, they've had a blue spotlight one, a red spotlight one, an oscar-related one, and various other title-specific designs.

I'm guessing that the disc will have a normal cover art of something like Mrs. Doubtfire: Special Edition, but the slipcover will be holiday themed for each month.

October - an orange and black bordered slipcover with pumpking patters
November - an orange and brown bordered slipcover with a scratch and sniff of turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy
December - a red and green bordered slipcover with snowflake patterns, a scratch and sniff of peppermint, and if you press a button, it plays Jingle Bells.

I guess this is another DVD I'll add to my LONG list of upcoming releases to buy. This is one of my favorite movies, and I do not have it on DVD. I taped it off television, some time ago, but, I have been wanting to buy it on DVD, and never did.

As far as Mrs. Doubtfire 2, it looks like Robin Williams is reprising his role. Hopefully, Sally Field will reprise her role, as well. According to several websites, the film should start shooting in January 2007.

I still can't see how a sequel will work. He's going to go undercover as Mrs. Doubtfire or something like Big Momma's House or get sent to babysit some new kids, lol. But then he got his own TV Show at the end of the first movie so everyone knows about Mrs. Doubtfire it's just not clicking for me. I would love Sally Field & Pierce Brosnan to be in this one again. Pierce is listed on IMDB so if they have him they'd have to have Sally back. I don't know if they'll have his kids though in this one, the older girl never saw her again, the younger girl dissapered after her kiddie roles in this and Matilda, then there's Matthew Lawrence who's the most likely to return out of the three siblings. I hope it's good, Bonnie Hunt is the main writer so I'm not worried yet. If they could get everyone back it's already a great sign.

BTW, My favorite part of the first one is when Robin does all his impressions for that court lady. :D
