My favorite Disney song is "The Second Star to the Right." Jesse McCartney recorded a version of the song for Disney Mania 3, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just made a music video for it. I personally would like a crooner to do that song for the DVD, like they did with "Bella Notte." I think we need a 30-40 minute extensive making of feature. I want to see the whole one hour Christmas special that advertised the movie. The one made for "Alice in Wonderland" is on the Masterpiece Edition, so I see no reason why Pan's shouldn't be on it's Platinum Edition. I want tailors from every release. We need an art gallery with concept art dating back to 1938 when Walt first had his artists start designing for the film. I think it would be awesome to have a featurette about the ride. "Never Smile at a Crocodile" and other deleted songs and scenes should be included with storyboards. There will probably be some sort of virtual game that doesn't matter to me. They should at least keep the commentary from the Special Edition and possibly make another one. I can't wait for my favorite Disney film to get it's Platinum treatment!!!!!

Im so excited that Peter Pan is going to be a Platinum Editon, because I accidently bought a bootleg off eBay, and I was almost ready to buy the real version of the 2002 special edition. But now that the PE im just gunna waite for that one. The restoration looks amazing!

I'm really looking forward to the new restoration. The current transfer's great, but could be better. Contrast levels are kind of odd. The most notable example is the "Your Mother and Mine" sequence. Everyone's skin in that scene is this murky off-white color, and Wendy's hair is orangey brown. Also, the character outlines in certain parts seem too thick. The shot with Peter talking to Wendy on Big Ben has thick black borders around all of them. I haven't pulled out my VHS to compare, but I'm sure this is a DVD error since Walt was very picky about character outlines being thin and crisp (this is why he hated the xerox process; the fine lines created by hand were replaced with thicker copies of rough animation).

I'm curious to see how they handle the commentary track. Will they keep it and film a brand new documentary (which is what I'm hoping for), or will they dump the track and edit comments from that and the featurette into a new documentary? The inclusion of the Walt Disney Christmas Show is pretty much a given, and since I've never seen it before outside of a few excerpts, I'm really looking forward to it. I'd like to see the dark ride attraction covered in some way, at least with a section in the galleries or something. I also hope they include re-release trailers in addition to the theatrical one. How many times has the film been released? I've only ever seen three domestic posters for the film: the first from the original '53 release, and the other two from the 80s. I've never seen 60s or 70s posters for the film, so I have no clue if it was re-released those decades.

Peter Pan and Pinocchio are the only two Platinums left that I truly am excited for (I'm satisfied by my Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty discs, though I'll upgrade both if the Platinums offer substantial improvements).

I think the audio commentary from the 2002 edition will be ported over, as well as that featurette. It would be exciting to see some deleted or abandoned scenes (considering that Disney does keep good track of stuff like that) for the film, and maybe some new interviews with the surviving voice cast (Kathryn Beaumont, for one). And I would love to see a new restoration for the film and it'd be nice to get the original mono audio and a better 5.1 surround remix.

We'll get some art galleries and finally, the original theatrical trailer used to promote the film in 1953! This release of PP just has me salivating... if Universal gets wind of this, maybe we'll get a SE of the 2003 film as well!

BTW, are we sure that Disney uses Lowry Digital for every Platinum Edition? I thought Disney did the restorations themselves, save for films like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Did Lowry restore The Little Mermaid, too?

Yes. Lowry has worked on every Platinum except Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King because those were CAPS films that didn't need restoring. Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty are the only non-Platinums they've worked on for Disney. I believe Disney only does in-house restorations for minor titles like Dumbo, Robin Hood, and The Fox and the Hound. Expect Peter Pan's RKO logo to be replaced with Walt Disney Pictures' logo, and for end credits to be added.

Oh man, I so hope you're right about Universal's Pan (hey, I made a rhyme!). I love that film even more than the Disney one, and it needs a SE badly. A good 20 minutes or so of footage was cut, yet the DVD only gives us about 5 minutes' worth. The featurettes are pretty shallow, and we don't even get a commentary track or galleries. Hopefully Disney's re-release will inspire them.

Another excellent bonus feature for Peter Pan would be to gather recent or fairly popular fan made Peter Pan music vids. Think it would geat a boost in the sales. Here's a few of my Peter Pan vid.

I am so unbelievably excited for Peter Pan becoming a Platinum. I selfishly kinda wished they had taken off The Jungle Book and replaced it with Pinocchio instead, but this is good enough!

I hope they have some kind of Making-Of feature, maybe storyboards, a game or two, and some interviews with cast and crew. Oh and an audio commentary.

I lost Peter Pan SE in Hurricane Charley & never have been able to replace it. As a young child I grew up with Peter Pan as my favorite Disney animated film. I had the lp record with accompanying storybook which I listened to every night before I went to bed for years. Whatever they add to the 2 disc PE I'll be happy with. Just hearing the news that it's coming back on dvd has made my day.

This is the most pleasant surprise I've seen in a while!!!! My favorite of the films from Walt's lifetime, and the one Disney film I am really still yearning to have on DVD! I got the SE used from Amazon, but had to return it. It was scratched and would not play. I have been hoping for this for a very long time! Peter Pan is my favorite story ever; I cannot wait!

Here is what I hope for in the new release:

*The commentary track and "Peter Pan Story" to be retained.
*A 30-50 minute documentary on the film's production.
*A variety of trailers and TV spots (not just the original theatrical to be retained here)
*The silent Peter Pan from Paramount that was included in the French version of the last DVD.
*Indepth coverage of the versions of the film pitched and developed in the 1940s, with differences outlined.
*The Disney Christmas Special to do with Peter Pan.
*Larger galleries.
*Mention of Peter Pan in the theme parks (perhaps through galleries).

Commentary or filmed introduction to the 1927 Silent Film from Paramount
This would explain in more detail what we are watching, why it had such an effect on the young Walt Disney and why it is included in the set. Storypoints which inspired the Disney cartoon could be discussed, as well as some of the history of Walt Disney pre founding the Disney Company. (I understand that Walt first saw this version of Peter Pan while working as a "Newsie"). If a commentary is choosen, as well as the above points information on the life of J M Barrie and the history of the play could also be included.

Rework the Production Galleries
For me, the gallery was the biggest disappointment of the current 2 disc set - it's exactly the same as the limited gallery on the current "Special Edition". This sould be reworked to be similar to the existing "Platinum Edition" gallaries - split into specific sections, with lots more pictures and the choice of voice overs if applicable. I would rebuy the R1 "Platinum Edition" in a heartbeat if this is done, as the galleries are my favorite supplements on the 2 disc sets.

Include "The Walt Disney Christmas Show" from 1951
According to my book "Disney The First 100 Years", Christmas 1951 saw the transmission of a television special "The Walt Disney Christmas Show". The programme was esentially used to promote his upcoming animated feature "Peter Pan"

The Trailers
Missing from the French release. Missing Trailers seems to be unwelcome pattern on these overseas releases.

All the above suggestions should be easy to implement - the trailers, tv special and production artwork presumably already exist (I would imagine Disney did keep a copy of the TV special - they have a copy of the first TV special "One Hour In Wonderland"). The introduction or commentary to the silent movie would require a little research, but would be quick and cheap to record.

I think with these features, you will have a solid and informative 2 disc set which will include enough new material to make most people at least consider upgrading. Plus I imagine it would be more feasible (and cheaper) to augment an existing 2 disc set than to begin one from scratch. Let's not forget Disney needs money ASAP at the moment.

However, should Disney want to go a little extra on the supplements, these could also be considered:

A Featurette on Tinkerbell
Tinkerbell is second only to Mickey Mouse as the Disney corporate symbol. A featurette on the development of Tinkerbell would be most welcome.

A Featurette on The Great Ormand Street Children's Hospital in London
When he died J M Barrie left his copyright of "Peter Pan" to the Great Ormand Street Children's Hospital - one of Europe's most highly regarded children's hospitals.

A featurette on Pirates in Disney films
Sort of like "The Story behind the Story" segment on "Beauty and the Beast", this could examine various Disney films featuring Pirates - from their live action "Treasure Island", "Swiss Family Robinson" and "Blackbeard's Ghost" to - of course - "Treasure Planet".

A featurette on Bobby Driscoll and Kathryn Beaumont
I always get a kick out of the voice talent segments on these discs. Both Bobby and Kathryn have made other Disney films, so this could be an informative featurette.

I'm really psyched for this, because while I have the original DVD release, I didn't get the Special Edition one (intended to, but never did). So...

I'd like any extras that were on the previous edition to be included.

Definitely want that Christmas Special and, always, any footage of the voice cast (or any live-action models) in full costume portraying the characters for whatever reason.

Featurettes or anything else on TinkerBell! I adore Tinkerbell!

Lots of gallery images, but particularly on character development. I love to see the variety of designs for the characters evolving into the final ones.

Featurettes or anything else on other versions of Peter Pan would be good.

Of course, a look into the source of the story, Barrie, and anything else about pre-Diseny Peter Pan.

Definitely, deleted songs and scenes, stuff like that.

And, here's my wish that probably won't happen. I would love for them to include the film from Disney-MGM-Studios old animation department tour, where Robin Williams, while learning about animation with Walter Kronkite, is turned into a lost boy and gets in a fight with Captain Hook! This whole program should be included, including the parts you would see on screens while walking above the animators after the theater part of the film.

I think a featurette on Hans Conried's work with the studio would be nice too! He was an amazing talent and I'm so glad they have found such a good sound-alike for recent stuff (who's doing Hook nowadays? Corey Burton?).

I already have the Region 2 version of Peter Pan, but this is gonna be the first time I double dip. Do you guys think I should keep my older Peter Pan DVD, or should I sell it?

I would keep it at least until you have the new one in your hand. Things can change.

That was my favorite WDW attraction, once upon a time when it was still a working animation studio, so I'll admit to a little wishful thinking there, too.

Something that probably won't happen...didn't one of Disney's divisions release Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp as Sir J.M. Barrie? Info on Barrie's life would be awesome, and they could use clips from that movie in the process.

More realistically..."Never Smile at a Crocodile" is one of the most famous deleted Disney songs! Any at all information about that would be fantastic! Maybe a port-over of the sing-along version from the "Under the Sea" SingAlongSongs video and at least a recording of the demo version, a la Cinderella? The demo tape of that song that's on the Peter Pan soundtrack is absolutely hysterical! There's also a demo of a song called "The Boatswain's Song" that would be nice to learn more about, too!

I hope they're gonna put a virtual ride of the Peter Pan ride from Disneyland on the DVD. That would be sooooooo awesome!!! Ilove that ride!!
I think the're gonna take all the extras from the French release and hopefully add some new stuff.

Peter Pan is one of my ultimate favorites. I'm so glad to see it come up so quickly in the platinum line, but sad to see 101 Dalmatians get the bump (another one of my favorites).

The new TinkerBell movie looks great too! I'm so excited!
