DTV sequels you would LIKE to see

It seems to me that a lot of us just sit here and complain and complain about the Disney DTV sequels and always talk about how low quality they are and how some just shouldn't happen. All this may be true, but we have to admit that Disney has made some pretty good DTV's as well that are loved just as much as the films they are based upon.

My question for everyone is, what are some sequels that you would like to see? if you want, you can go into story details, techcnical details, whatever.

here are a few of the ideas i wouldn't mind seeing...

The Rescuers Head East
- a young pair of twins from a very rich family is kidnapped and held for ransom. It's up to Bianca and Bernard now even more famous from their past success's to save the young children. Maybe Bernard and Bianca have children of their own now too?

The Great Mouse Detective in The Hound King
- a version of The Hound of the Baskervilles involving our favorite characters from the original film.

The Round Table
- a continuation of The Sword in the Stone with an adult King Arthur and Merlin with Archemedies.

One of my favorites is "Alice in Wonderland." I would LOVE to see "Alice Through the Looking Glass," but cringe in fear at what Disney Toon Studios would do with it. I also don't ever expect to see it done because it would require an almost entirely new cast except for a few main characters such as Alice and the White Rabbit. Now, I've never read the books, so I don't care if they take elements from both books and fuse them together like what was done in the first film, but I would want it done well. Now, I don't always bash the DTV's. I really enjoyed some of the more recent ones, including "Brother Bear 2," "Lilo & Stitch 2," and "Kronk's New Groove." I just think that "Alice Through the Looking Glass" needs to be done on a much bigger scope than Disney Toon Studios is currently capable of providing. I also am in fear of this because "Peter Pan" is my favorite animated classic and I had my hopes up for "Return to Neverland." I felt there was so much potential for a good sequel, but the only parts I liked were the opening cloud montage and the song "I'll Try." Other sequels that I would like to see would be "Tarzan" sequels, but I want them to pretend that the current version of "Tarzan II" never happened! lol. Edgar Rice Burroughs had so many books, and so many film versions have been made. Disney's was my favorite. I will never understand why Disney didn't just adapt one of ERB's stories and make that the sequel. The best part of that film for me was Phil Collin's "Who Am I" which has yet to be released on cd. Beyond that, they can touch any film made after Walt died, but I wish they would leave the rest of them alone. Those films hold a special place in my heart and I don't want them franchised to death. I also think they should leave "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" alone now. I didn't care for the sequels already made and have low expectations for the next TLM. I did like the "Lion King" sequels, though, and the "Aladdin" ones aren't so bad (story wise), but that might just be that I was such an Aladdin nut as a kid and both were made when I was younger and too ignorant to know they weren't made by the same people.

Discussed here:

What sequels would you like to see?

Anyway, in the interest of contributing to the thread...

Pinocchio II: The Dark and Scary Adventure - a midquel for Pinocchio, which show the 70 minutes between being trapped on Stromboli's carriage and Jiminy finding him. Sure to please the midquel fans. We get to see Pinoke cry for 70 minutes (though for 5 minutes he attempts to scratch his nose, but he keeps setting it on fire)

Dumbo II: How the Hell Did He Get In A Tree? - the question is answered in this 50 minute deleted scene showing the transition from Pink Elephants on Parade to Dumbo sleeping in a tree.

Sleeping Beauty II: Honey, I'm Not in the Mood - On their wedding night, Aurora wants to stay up all night and play games, but Prince Phillip, who had a busy day escaping an evil fortress and slaying a dragon, chooses to go to bed early. This 94 minute sequel will have you clutching your sides in laughter as Aurora tries to keep Phillip awake all night.

Sleeping Beauty III: Honey, I Want a Divorce - a DTV sequel to SBII, it's the following morning, and Prince Phillip asks for a divorce. Ain't no way he's gonna stay married to a woman like that!

The Rescuers Go North By Northwest - A case of mistaken identity has Bernard being attacked in a cornfield, leading to the great climax on Mount Rushmore.

Chicken Little Goes To Mars - when the aliens come to visit Oakey Oaks again, they ask Chicken Little and his friends if they want to go on a weeklong vacation to Mars.

I've posted this one before. It doesn't get old. :P At least not to me.

Snow White 2: The Revenge Of The Queen's Sister
The Wicked Queen's evil ugly old sister finds out that the dwarfs killed the Queen and plots revenge against everyone. After the Prince disappears, not to be seen again until the end, she poisons Snow White with chlamydia and it causes her to go into a diabetic coma. Now, the dwarfs must brew her up a special cure which involves going far away to get the start ingredient, fungus growing on the thong Christina Aguilera wore in her Dirrty video. They make the brew, Snow White comes back to life. The Queen's sister is outraged and gives everyone crabs. Turns out the brew with the addition of lichens growing on a babboon's ass will take care of crabs. Eventually, the Queen's sister, voiced by Martha Stewart BTW, will make a poison out of 3 inches of twine, a lettuce leaf, 12 gallons of boiling water, and cloves. Snow White finds out, bitchslaps the Queen's sister, and then forces her to drink the poison. She dies and the Prince comes out from some crack in the wall. Then they all strip to barely any clothes and do a performance of Dirrty to pay tribute to the thong that saved their lives the first time, all while wearing rubber babboon asses as a tribute to the ingredient that took away their crabs. Go to credits, where a new pop song, The Dirrty Yodel Song, performed by Raven Symone featuring Ghostface Killah, plays.

I think Great Mouse Detective and Rescuers are ripe for sequels, and it's a shame they prefer to use "Happy Ending" stuff instead, which often ruins the happy ending. Of course, I guess those two titles aren't as popular as the happy ending stuff.

However, when it comes to "Happy Ending" movies, I am perfectly alright with prequels, or tales about other characters. Being a big Tink fan, I'm really psyched about the Tink movie, though I'm not thrilled at recently finding out that she will be talking (though I suspected as much). Also not thrilled that it will be CGI.

I would love to see some DTV movies based on Disney Afternoon shows. More Duck Tales movies, some TaleSpin and Gummi Bears movies, among others. They have a lot of material there, and it was all made to have episode after episode, so they should keep it alive this way. How 'bout some Gargoyles DTV movies? Well, actually, they haven't even decided to release the rest of the show yet, so I hear.

Also would like to see more 2D movies like Mickey's "Three Musketeers." I rather enjoyed that one, though I will never understand why Clara Cluck wasn't used in the opera scene. Big missed opportunity there.

In truth, I think a great sequel can be written for anything. It's just a story, and you can write a good one or a bad one, or a GREAT one or a terrible one. People don't generally like sequels (so they say, anyway) because they are often done in a half-assed way (since the fan base is already there) or the original material is disregarded/not treated with respect to some degree. We have good sequels when those two things don't happen. Oh, and, of course, when unworthy cast replacements are made (in live-action, if you can't get the original cast back, probably better not to do it again, though that's not a hard and fast rule).

Anyway, I would love to see some prequel movies to Little Mermaid, and since they're prequels, like the TV show, they wouldn't have to worry about ruining the Happily Ever After. I wouldn't mind the proposed Dwarf movies. I guess I'm up for anything if they would just do it right. Hercules would be good, of course! They could be sequels or midquels (like the series was). I guess sequels would be best, because the series covered a lot of midquel. They just need to release it on DVD already. A Mr. Toad sequel would probably work well. Maybe couple it with another story (like the original). Perhaps another spooky story. That way, the title could be something else "and Mr. Toad." Maybe a Great Mouse Detective story coupled with a new Toad story: "Mr. Toad and Basil," or "Basil and Mr. Toad."

How 'bout a Jiminy Cricket movie too? He could hang with the old Disney comics gang from "Bucky Bug." Or, they could just make a Bucky Bug movie.

They could actually make a "Sorceror's Apprentice" movie, where Mickey, the Sorceror's Apprentice, steals the sorceror's hat to go on his own adventure.

Would love to see the Roger Rabbit characters used again. Disney should try to by them outright (if they haven't already). I really would like for more young fans to know who Roger Rabbit is. (It IS my favorite film of all time)

I'm really not as against a Dumbo sequel as most other fans were. They could totally make it a film about Dumbo in WW2 or something. Dumbo the War Elephant. Ha, not that they would, but they could bring back the villainous characters from Der Feuhrer's Face (sp?) for that one.

Someone mentioned doing the rest of the Alice material, and that would be good to me if they made an effort to match the original (and avoided the "pop" tunes).

I have some very mixed opinions of the past DTV releases. I think my favorite has been Bambi 2, which I thought was excellent aside from the modern songs (if I'm not forgetting anything). One particularly good choice was that they used real kids for the voices. This is something that hurt Peter Pan 2. That's another case though, where the main problem I had with that movie was the songs. In general though, I liked that one too. The Lion King films were very good. Aladdin and the King of Thieves was very good (though very TV quality animation, which varied in quality). However, Return of Jafar was so badly animated that the story really had to grow on me. It was more of a kiddie story, but I do sort of enjoy it nowadays, if only as a bridge to the series. I actually rather liked 101 Dalmatians 2. A BIG disappointment for me was "Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure." I've always loved Scamp in comics, and I wanted him to have a good film, and he could have. The two biggest problems were Scamp sounding too old and that they made it into a boisterous musical. Song-wise, the original was much more subtle. I really wish they hadn't done the teen angst/rebel without a cause thing with Scamp too. I wish they'd done more of a "Homeward Bound" type story, still mixing in some of those retread moments of the original film, but not making them the bulk of the film. I like the idea of Scamp getting left behind somewhere on a vacation and having to use both his father's style and skills and his mother's as well to make his way back home. I LOVED Once and Twice Upon a Christmas, though some stories I loved more than others. Little Mermaid 2 wasn't horrible, but I didn't like them messing with Ariel's Happily Ever After! She and Tink are my girls! I think Cinderella 2 was an exercise in false advertising. It should have been called "Mouse Mouse Tales." Audiences would have a better idea what to expect, and that would probably result in less disappointment. I didn't hate it, because I accepted it for what it was. However, the scenes/story about Cinderella herself could have been handled better. Again, they shouldn't mess with the happily ever after unless they are going to have an all out adventure that ends with a restoration of the happy and all the loose ends tied up. In Ariel's case though, ruining the first 11 or whatever years of her marriage, that was totally wrong! But I guess they figured since the original story was not a happy ending, they had the right to do that.

Now, it wasn't direct to video, but I absolutely LOVE Rescuers Down Under, even more than the original in fact.

What else... haven't watched Brother Bear 2 yet. Want to see the first again before I do. There are a few direct to videos I don't have yet because of low funds (Mulan 2, Lilo and Stitch 2, Kronk's New Groove, Leroy and Stitch, and maybe some I'm forgetting). Need to rewatch Pocahontas 2, Tarzan 2, and Stitch the movie before commenting on those. I'm sure I'm forgetting some too, and then there are those that are just the TV series spliced together, so no point getting into that.

Oh, Jungle Book 2. Upon rewatching it, it's really not that bad, but it has some big problems. I like John Goodman and he was okay, but I think I would have rather had the guy from TaleSpin (though I might have read that he passed away). There was a bit too much retreading in this one, if I remember correctly, no King Louie, some weird choice of colors... It didn't LOOK like the original, and that is a shame. The original is one of my faves, and it certainly had sequel potential because they hadn't even touched on Mowgli's struggles in the man-village. Considering that this went to the big screen, it's a shame it wasn't more like the old Sabu film, but they were clearly aiming this one at kids more than usual (as they do often with the DTV sequels, but they might be learning not to do that so much with the master animators now doing DTV).

Now, I haven't seen a Pooh movie I didn't like, though I haven't seen the Heffalump movie yet, and none have touched the original and "The Tigger Movie." The Tigger Movie" was excellent, except that they may have gotten too modern in the song sequence where we see stuff like a Jerry Springer Tigger. Funny, but takes you away from the old-fashioned, British roots a bit. Still, I LOVE that sequel.

AND, I rather like the House of Mouse movies, but that's because I loved the show and knew what to expect. They could have done a better job on the Christmas one though.

Oh, I forgot. Despite the TV animation, I really like Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas. I LOVED Extremely Goofy Movie. And, as for Hunchback 2... well, that was pretty bad. Sad thing, too, because the original I believe is one of Disney's most impressive and powerful films(even without any personal dreamgirls, ha).

I wouldn't have minded seeing Treasure Planet 2, I really enjoyed the original and I'd like to see what happened after the credits. But I hope that if they do eventually make it that it's better than Atlantis- Milo's Return. That was horrible. They should've left it with the original and nothing more. I'd like to see more of Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp, and The Lion King 1 1/2 was pretty good so I wouldn't mind another movie of that. More of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command would be nice, and a Recess- Schools Out sequel would be nice. Another Beauty and the Beast sequel would be good, but it would have to be on par with The Enchanted Christmas and not the other one. Lilo and Stitch will forever have fans, so I hope for another DTV movie, hopefully a holiday themed one, ie Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Valentines Day, or for something that's not already in the series, then a Hawaii themed holiday. That's my thoughts for now.
Oh, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo sequels would be nice as well.

I also really loved the film Treasure Planet and think it was really underrated! Yeah, more of that one would have been nice if it was well done. The thing about Atlantis 2, though I haven't seen it, is that it was really a TV series that they spliced together as a DTV movie when they decided not to make a series after all. At least, that's what I heard. Atlantis is one of the few Disney animated features I wasn't a fan of though. It was very disappointing, even though I got the 2-disc version anyway.

I suppose wishing for Home on the Range II would be pointless even in a 'make believe' thread! ;)

As long as the previous film had some loose ends that could be tied up again in the sequel, I'm fine. If not, then I think that there's less reason for a sequel, as it may go into repetition mode (look at The Lion King 2 for example), which is one of the reasons why these films aren't that popular review-wise.

Sadly, I don't think that a sequel based on Alice in Wonderland would work. There isn't anything that needs tying up in terms of plot of the first film, and whilst some may think of Through the Looking Glass and say "why don't they essentially adapt that?", remember that they kinda already have. TweedleDum and TweedleDee, the Walrus and the Carpenter, the Oysters, the talking flowers, elements of the "Jabberwocky" poem and various quotes and lines are all from Through the Looking Glass and were embedded into the main Alice in Wonderland story in the film. I remember reading Walt order that character aspects of the deleted Wonderland character the Duchess (a woman whom Alice experiences in two opposite moods) and the two Queens in Looking Glass (the White Queen who's flustered and the Red Queen who's bossy and manner-obsessed) help to mould the character of the Queen of Hearts, and as you can see from my descriptions, you can see reflections of the characters in the Queen. An animated TV series exploring both the adventures of the already established characters and the unmentioned characters may work, though.

What justifies sequels to me is this: If I see these as interesting characters that have interesting lives, surely they have more adventures than just the one. Aside from some of the Happily Ever After cases, especially with certain characters, I don't see them as spending the rest of their lives just sitting around. At least some of them must have other adventures, and I'd like to see them. If they've become interesting people, it also makes a good case for prequels. How did they become the people they are today. Whether or not that is a boring story or a great one depends on the writers. For me, if there's a great story in it, I really don't care if the first film suggested it or not.

But, with Lion King 2, I really don't see the repetition (generally, I mean). Basically, Lion King was the story of Hamlet. Lion King 2 was Romeo and Juliet (the happy ending version, of course). They're two very different stories connected only by the same writer, and I thought one worked great as a sequel to the other.

Dance Television Videos had sequels???

News to me. DTV was inserts to fill up time during programming on the original Disney Channel, when it was fun to watch.

If you are talking about direct-to-video movies then I don't think that you should use capital letters because that causes confusion for those of us who remember the good old days of Disney Channel TV and Dance Television Videos that were on. Sometimes they were even on in half-hour segments, and those I have on VHS tape and will treasure forever.

I know they already made The Fox and the Hound 2. But I am surprised they took the prequel route. I had a completely different version of this sequel stuck in my head.

Dont hate me for this...yes it would take place after the original but Todd and Copper are still the central characters. Todd and Copper have started their own separate families. Something happens to one of Copper's puppies while his family is out in the forest, like a mountain lion attack or something and is presumed, but he ends up being raised by Todd and his family and comes to appreciates forest life and hating hunters and such. Construction of the forest also threatens his preserve. Crazyness happens.

I would also like to see a Tarzan sequel where Tarzan has boy.

A Hercules sequel could work too, but for the other films it would a lil bit difficult to makes sequels for unless you have them take prequel routes, like maybe The Aristocats and about the kittens' biological father.
