this has nothing to do with disney...... but i saw some of you were interested in the "where are you typing from" thread ( http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=1333 ) about Israel.... so i thought i'd just stick in this video link:
http://www.subliminal.co.il/tv.asp?ps=tikva.asx

it's some good israeli rap music.... you probably wont understand a thing of it unless you speak some hebrew.... but the music to it is good anyway.

Tell me what you think! this is one of the many good songs of this particular group!

ENJOY!! :D

btw.... you'll probably have to wait roughly a minute wtill the clip starts.

Not all that different from rap here...except that they're white, which isn't too common in the rap genre.

Are you rolling your eyes at my observation or at the predominantly black American rap industry? Either way, I'm not really sure why.

This is slightly off topic, but I found an article on Israeli hip-hop. It's interesting to see that Israeli hip-hop takes on Mideast politics. Subliminal seems to be a popular hip-hop singer. :)

I'm not really familiar with hip-hop and rap music. Both styles seem similar to me. Can any explain some differences to me? Thanks.

Correct Starion... that's what Israel Rap/ Hip-Hop is about!!
it's all very patiotic- zionistic type singing and helps israeli teens have something to identify with.

If you've noticed. in the clip i made a link to before you see alot of israeli flags and red on the screen symbolizing blood. this particular song is especially patriotic, it is called "Ha'Tikva" (The Hope), which - ironicly- is also the title of israels national anthem, though the words are not at all similar. in the song, Subliminal (the rapper) raps about israeli soldiers who died, terrorist bombings, and patriotism. he curses a lot (which isn't really a problem in israel) but mixes it in with very meaningful zionistic remarks.. such as:

"ki lo nolad ha ben zona sheh ya'atzor et israel!"

which means: "Not one son of a bitch has been born who can stop israel"

but of course, aside from the zionistic songs... he also sings other types of songs talking about how good he is in bed.

and now to answer your question Starion, i myself cannot exactly understand what the real difference between Rap and Hip-Hop really is... but i think it's that hip-hop as more melody then rap does (correct me if im worng ppl!), so then i guess i'd have to catagorise Subilminal as Rap-Hop or Hip-Rap because he's kind of a mixture of both.

At your lack of insight and awareness based on pliable impressions absorbed by mass media hype... but since this is a Disney messageboard, you're forgiven buddy.

:donald:

I guess my involvements in music, (which like animation, is a passion I am strongly devoted to), might sometimes give me this ugly elitist approach towards comments like the one you made... but it's just a shame that so many mediums of substance in creative art are being sacrificed for lack of inspiration in today's generation. Is Avril Lavigne the new poster-girl for rock and roll? Do people even care about Bob Dylan and Neil Young anymore? That's sort of what your statement reflects to me... Hiphop has become nothing more than black guys trying to look scary on television, rapping about material possessions and exploiting a culutre and an artform which has so much more depth and creativity... Not true.

I know artists from all continents and regions, Australia to the UK, Scandinavia and the Netherlands, that are involved in this scene and I don't even think that a majority exists anymore in terms of race, nor do I think that it's least bit significant. Anyways, I'd be more than happy to put you onto artists who might change your perceptions of what "rap music is supposed to be" and I'd be more than happy to share some of my own music with you as well, but no hard feelings Luke. I was just making a point with my sarcastic interweb smilie.

Hey, I agree with your points and there's some rap I like quite a bit, but most of it is from the early-mid '90s or earlier. I think the 'hip-hop image' associated with 'rap' that pervades our culture has sort of become more important than the music.
